The irresistible, magnetic vocal harmonies of The Pierces - Alabama-bred, New York-based sisters Allison and Catherine -take a giant step forward as the two singer-songwriters become the newest members of the Mercury Records artist roster, a division of Island Def Jam Music Group. Mercury will introduce The Pierces this month at special shows at the Mercury Lounge in New York City on January 11-12th; and the Hotel Café in Los Angeles on January 17th. The Pierces' fourth album, YOU & ...

With Christmas out of the way, and the year almost over, it's time I finally get around to compiling my Top 20 albums of the year of 2011 (in fact, there are 21 entries). Each album is represented on the mix with a song, and each entry has a link to the artist's homepage or other outlet where the album can be ordered from. Because this list is intended not only to show off my impeccable taste, but also to showcase artists, all data files in the mix have been downscaled to 128kbps. This is not really a chart, but [...]

Click here to view the embedded video. The Pierces are the sister duo, of Allison and Catherine Pierce, who were reared in Alabama on a steady diet of Joni Mitchell and Simon & Garfunkel . Though if you judge them on 'Kissing You Goodbye' you would be quick to add The Mamas & The Poppas to that list, as this track has the same floating harmonies and folksy, lo-fi feel of the group's iconic 'California Dreaming'. The Pierces have been crafting music together for [...]
am v late in loving the PIERCES game, butt better late than never hey. and i hope they blew all their budget on getting this he-foxxx to feature in their KISSING YOU GOODBYE video. tots worth it. wotyougot

The Alabama-born Pierces own a UK top 5 and Coldplay dude-produced album, You & I . Wild. The latest release from that LP is the dark, swirling "Kissing You Goodbye". The track, reminiscent of 60's vocal bands like The Byrds, The Hollies, and The Mamas & The Papas, is great and, if you're unfamiliar (American. [We had barely heard of them too.]), should serve as an excellent introduction to the band. The Pierces ( Official ) ( Facebook ) Rating 8.2

I first mentioned Marcus Foster on this blog when I wrote a post on Communion Records' (the independent label founded by Mumford & Sons' Ben Lovett, producer Ian Grimble and Kev Jones) double album, The Flowerpot Sessions , which featured the singer-songwriter's stunning tones. London-born Marcus Foster was six years old when he first began to play the piano. He became quietly obsessive about music when he discovered his father's collection of Bob [...]
There's quite a few pop tracks being unleashed on the world this week, but only one that we're interested in spending any money on. In fact, we already have. In the interests of fairness, we're obliged to tell you about the others too, just in case your taste isn't as refined as ours. Remember X Factor girl group Belle Amie? Named after a porn site? Yes, now we're jogging your memory… Well, they're a member down since their stint on the show, but they now have a single called 'Girls Up' , which has a really good [...]

Here's a couple of faces I haven't featured on the blog before. The Pierces are a New York band made up of 30-something sisters Catherine and Allison Pierce. Raised by creative, self-confessed hippie parents in Alabama, the Pierce girls spent their younger years listening to Simon & Garfunkel and Joni Mitchell , as well as performing at weddings, parties and church events in their hometown. While in college, they sent a demo tape to a record company in Nashville, which resulted in the release of their debut [...]

Birmingham's she-popping sisters the THE PIERCES have just unleashed their new IT WILL NOT BE FORGOTTEN video. wotyougot
' It Will Not Be Forgotten ' is out August 8th. The Pierces are supporting Coldplay at the iTunes festival July 22nd at London's Roundhouse . Coldplay's Guy Berryman co-produced The Pierces hit album 'You & I' , which recently entered the charts at No.4, and which was partly recorded in Coldplay's studio in north London. Released August 8th 'It Will Not Be Forgotten" is another classic single from the Alabama-born Pierce sisters Allison and Catherine, the third to be taken from 'You & [...]

Following on the heels of her "country-fried" debut single, " Of My Own ," Liverpudlian Delta Blues singer/songwriter Delta Maid is back with a followup (and EQUALLY AMAZING ) single called " Spend A Little Time ." The single, due out July 10th on Geffen / Future Records , is a "perky dose of down to earth country" and a worthy follow up to her snappy debut. The "Nashville friendly, blues inspired" song sees Delta rejecting [...]

The Pierces performing Glorious on Loose Women from their album, " You and I " out now

Alice Gold seems every bit the modern pop star, washed clean of all the sugar coating that permeated through most other pretty-faced, female solo pop artists of the last billion decades. Like a lot of the pop predecessors who have punted out this type of chart-ready music she is styled and preened and looks like she has a bunch of 'edgy' looking session artists placed behind her in her videos, whom we imagine she only met that day, but in place of the dance moves and electronic pop we find her hitting guitar strings and playing distorted tunes with [...]

How much can happen in the first minute of a pop song ? Sometimes, barely anything; sometimes more than a conscious mind can fully compute. To ears that have yet to hear the music of Allison and Catherine Pierce, the first minute of You & I is a journey in itself. A minor-key strum and faintly ominous keyboards subtly draw in the listener, until a lone voice urges escape. "We could bring a blanket for the grass," goes the first line. Are you coming or not? Then, at 39 seconds, comes a harmony of such irresistible magnetism [...]
