Another year is over. That means it is time for me to do our first real best of lists. I am doing this according to performance record on this year. So, here are the best performing tracks on the blog here according to their performance record! Please note that if a track was blogged from the artist's Sound Cloud account, I have not a way to track their performance. I suggest artists to do it this way, it promotes your band profile their way more. But, this is according to tracks uploaded to our account this year. The top five [...]

El Güero is on the move as of late. Yesterday he covered Deadmau5, now he covered local hip-hop master, the Pirate Signal . Word and Photos by El Güero. The Meadowlark is a tucked away and intimate venue, the perfect spot for a secret show announced by word of mouth. On a Wednesday night you wouldn't expect a big crowd, so the few of us there got a unique treat from the Pirate Signal. The opening act was The Lake Superior, a 2 man operation who announced their set [...]

Dear readers, I am home from my epic roadtrip adventure, well-sunned, well-loved, well-fed, and deeply grateful. In addition to lots of outdoor time with those who matter most to me, my path also crossed with wonderful several musicians, adding spatters of color to the late nights. As an adventure it ranks right up there with the best thing I've ever done. Because I can't stop/won't stop, this weekend I am gearing up for the finest days in music that Denver has to offer all the livelong year at the Underground Music Showcase [...]

Oh my. My dears, Yours Truly has been harboring a secret crush for a while now, I must admit. It all started at last year’s Monolith Music Festival, where a guest MC got onstage with The Pirate Signal wearing a shirt that I found so awesome that I had to write about it. Since that time, Yours Truly has seen this varitable rocker of a fuckstar at various hip hop shows around town. (Yours Truly is very cool and goes to many hip hop shows around town, see.) And every [...]

The Denver Post ran a story last month detailing the work of a very cool ongoing study about the city's high " Creative Vitality Index ," which measures economic factors related to the music community. Through a series of qualitative interviews (I got to wax lyrical a few months ago over mimosas; it's how we do research here) and analysis of quantitative data, they discovered that music matters in Denver — "even more than it does in self-declared music cities like Seattle, Austin, Chicago and Portland." According to the study, the amount spent per person on [...]

The daytime festival will feature two stages, one indoor and one out, to provide us with the capacity required to host a showcase of this scale. Confirmed acts include: Westword [...]

Probably one of the best collabos I've seen in a while. Local Hip-Hopper, Yonnas from the Pirate Signal , has joined forces with DJ Hot to Death to make a baby named Animals At Risk . They put together a Halloween themed teaser video with vocals from other local shredders, the Swayback . Look for them to start surfacing with live dates next month as DJ's and a proper show. More details below: Upcoming Shows [...]

The Young Coyotes are so fucking fun live. From the perfect vocal harmonies and their catchy hooks to their hilarious between song banter these guys exemplify the indie rock trickster. This is gonna be a rocker!! Don't forget about The Pirate Signal either!! Yonnas and A-What are the best thing to happen to indie rock in Denver for many years - and they are a hip hop band!! The Young Coyotes will be playing their first Denver show in months at the Larimer Lounge this Sunday with The Pirate Signal, Chain Gang of 1974, Doo Crowder, Iuengliss and Red [...]

Wait a second...is that...sun? Yes, the second day of Monolith saw some sun. Though I must stress "some." Granted "some" was a significant improvement to the cold, icy rain that drizzled on concertgoers the entire day before. Feeling encouraged by the slight appearance of sun, Monolith's second day promised to be good. We Were Promised Jetpacks // Woxy.com Stage @ 1:40-2:20 p.m. I started off with Scottish group We Were Promised Jetpacks. I couldn't decide what [...]
