A regular feature in which our writers and photographers share their favourite tracks on a certain theme. This week, they pick the songs that you might have missed... Pavement - 'Strings of Nashville' (chosen by Daniel Harrison) The B-side to 1994's 'Gold Soundz' single, this is one of the hidden gems in Pavement's back catalogue. Malkmus and co often tended towards irreverent, tongue-in-cheek lyrical wordplay, but 'Strings of Nashville' shows the more melancholic side of the band, a quality also evident on other rarities such as 'Ed Ames' and 'Secret Knowledge of Backroads'. Gone [...]

'Twas the Night Before Christmas (or A Visit from St. Nicholas) by Clement Clarke Moore 'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care, in hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there. The Plague Monkeys - Mouse Organ Mp3 Info [...]

The Plague Monkeys were a four piece band from Dublin, Ireland. They were Carol Keogh (vocals), Donal O' Mahony (guitars, keyboards and mandolin), Barry Roden (bass) and Thomas Haugh (drums, percussion and keyboard). The band formed in December 1995 until circa 2000 and made some of the most beautiful music imaginable. Think along the lines of a cooler Cranberries or an upbeat Cocteau Twins! ***Disclaimer ..... this review contains no bias or negative comments which will result in Dave going all Chris DeBurgh on me! *** The Button Factory was the final gig of David Geraghty's short Irish tour to promote the excellent album 'The Victory Dance'. It was such a great night of music that begun with Miss Paula Flynn accompanied by Greg McAteer on guitar and Jay on percussion playing songs from their debut album 'Miss Paula Flynn'. Personally I can't wait to hear the album. I think it'll be full of Lisa Hanniganesque [...]

I love bands with a female singer like The Plague Monkeys, Alphastates or The Chalets. Joining this list is the band 'I Am Not Lefthanded'. I cannot recommend them enough. The band are Kathryn - Vocals/Guitar, Daniel - Vocals/Bass and Benji - Drums and have relocated to the Uk to make big ripples in a larger pond. I love how they have Roddy Doyle as an influence on their MySpace. The introduction on their website is so good I'll have to paste it here: "We don't play pop music, we don't write music for art's sake, we don't represent any [...]

This week has been the longest cold snap Ireland has been through in a long time. The warm southerly air from the mid-Atlantic drift tends to ensure Ireland has a moderate Winter. This last week has been crisp and cold. It has been very different and I'm loving it. Here are some nice pre-Christmas wintery tales! Remember to support the artists if you like anything you hear. Also tell me what you found was good in the comments section! Ash - Dark and Stormy Mp3 MySpace Prenup - Cold Wind [...]
