Mark Lanegan's Blues Funeral comes out today, and if you couldn't tell how excited we were to feature an exclusive album preview this past week and you somehow thrilled we were to host the Mark Lanegan Band live this morning from the Cutting Room Studios in NYC, go back and listen to the performance again later today on our Live Performances Archive and you can practically hear John Richards' head explode when Mark calls him "bro." Awesome. Though Mark Lanegan lives in sunnier southern climes now, he's definitely a legend of Northwest [...]

(out now on his online store ) On this retrospective, the former Nerves/Plimsouls alum assembles a collection of demos and unreleased outtakes from his lengthy solo career. The folk protest-style songs generally take issue with the state of the American political and economic immorality, sounding the alarm as it were (a siren can literally be heard blaring at the beginning of "Let's Turn This Thing Around") and repeating the exhortation to turn things around, a phrase which recurs later in the album on "Ballad of the Minimum Wage," where Case talk-sings as an organ intersperses stealthily quiet [...]

DOWNLOAD : Peter Case - "Round Trip Stranger Blues" Peter Case - (Give Me) One More Mile by alivenaturalsound Bomp/Alive describes The Case Files as a collection of " demos, out-takes, one live shot & other rarities recorded between 1985 and 2010 ". This description doesn't do the disc justice as this is a pretty solid collection of tracks rather than the half-finished demos and cast-offs found in archival compilations by [...]

DOWNLOAD : Peter Case - "Round Trip Stranger Blues" Peter Case - Steel Strings No1 by alivenaturalsound Peter Case released the well-received collection of demos, out-takes, one-time live performances & other rarities, The Case Files (Alive) earlier this year and All Music Guide said " these 12 songs make for an entertaining and empowering album that delivers the goods with smarts and simple, sweaty force. The Case Files proves this [...]

There's no better way to wind up a sizzling summer workday than a couple cold beers and some free music down at Houston's Cactus Music and Record Ranch . Tuesday we moseyed down there to hear a fine acoustic set from Peter Case, a singer/songwriter who spent time in rock bands like the Nerves and the Plimsouls before going solo in the mid-1980s. He was in Houston to promote his new CD, The Case Files , a collection of demos, outtakes and other rarities from his 25-year solo career. The track listing [...]

Peter Case is another one of those chronically under-appreciated artists who I never tire of cramming down your throat. From his early days with The Nerves, to his "breakthrough" with The Plimsouls, to his later solo outings, Case has given the world more than his fair share of great songs. It's really a damn shame that a guy with this much talent isn't mentioned in the same breath as guys like Elvis Costello or Nick Lowe. Never terribly prolific, Case nonetheless keeps busy, and The Case Files finds the [...]

I know you guys and gals are already really busy getting educated with Jerry-he assigns a lot of homework from what I hear. But I thought I'd sneak in and offer some side-listening, some extra credit if you will. I just discovered a mostly overlooked retro garage rock band called the Plimsouls from the annals of musical history. And I can't get enough of their debut album, released in 1981. It's like Americanized Brit-post-punk; it's like edgier Squeeze; it's jangly college rock from the West coast, and it's awesome. Here are some excellent tracks off the previously mentioned debut self-titled [...]

darren ragle Peter Case (the Nerves/Plimsouls) mixes Mickey's and the Miracles post-stage ... One night at the Starwood, Plimsouls top of the card in front of a 1000 peeps, 100 degrees ... and my anxiety level is building towards the first set, for some reason, and before we go on I start really pouring down the screwdrivers. But it isn't working. Beers are lined up on my amp, for insurance, but it's not enough. My shoes feel wet, loose, hard on my feet. My clothes all of a [...]

Was it just two weeks ago that the air conditioner was humming as summer's last gasp pushed us into one final round of temperatures in the mid-90s? (it was - I was there) But the weather has respected the official onset of autumn as well as the arrival of October. The air is cool and crisp and the sun is providing just enough warmth to allow us to throw every window in the treehouse open. Humans and animals are delighted as the humans drink their coffee and the animals sleep on the window [...]

Peter Case rocks the in-store at Cactus (Photo courtesy Cactus Music's Facebook page) Rock legend Peter Case, formerly of the Nerves and the Plimsouls, has been a solo artist since 1986 but he's probably never been better than right now. His new album Wig! is a blistering affair with raucous blues-rock songs, perhaps made a little more desperate and raw by Case's brush with death a few years ago. He had heart surgery in January 2009 and Wig! is his first record since. He made a quick visit to Houston [...]
