Darren from Bobby Best Creative says about this week's pick: What is there to say about Amanda Palmer and the GTO cover of Nirvana's Polly apart from haunting, hypnotic and a video that scares the living shit out of me? On April 21st and in partnership with Record Store Day a 73 vinyl single of 'Polly' limited to 2,000 copies worldwide will be released and I for one will be trying to secure a copy.

Sweet folk sounds from Cork's Polly Barrett. A quality debut that hints at a long musical career! On one level I love the simplicity of 'Mr Bookshop'. The clear and pure vocals of Polly bring her songs to life. They are accompanied by a simple soundtrack of acoustic guitars, banjo and drums. While the genre is folk many of the songs could also be described as pop without the fanfare. On another level the album [...]

Polly Barrett releases her debut single 'Mr. Bookshop' on the 16th Sep '11 and it's a gorgeouse folky pop song with superb vocals. The official bio states: "Polly Barrett began her music career as a busker on the streets of Cork City. Her mellow, folksy songs and clear, easy voice reflect her love of nature and matters of the heart. Polly's debut album entitled 'Mr. Bookshop' will be released on 28th October'11 and is set to cast her as the new jewel of acoustic [...]

Bush Hall was the perfect venue. The former dance hall and soup kitchen is now firmly established as one of the capital's best venues, particularly for acoustic music, and gigs where nuance is all important. August 25th saw one of the best line ups the venue has hosted, with the evening billed as a Bluegrass & Americana Roots double bill. The bands in question were Portland, Oregon's Water Tower Bucket Boys , and London's own Coal Porters . There was another band on show – Polly & The Billets Doux , a winsome quartet from [...]

Skating Polly is a kick ass duo made up by 15 year-old Peyton Suitor and 10 year-old Kelli Mayo that play a mixture of riot grrrl indie rock, pop, and punk. Polly and the Billets Doux ended an evening of atmospheric and exciting music at the Norwich Art Centre on Saturday the 9th of April with a set of their blues, country, jazz folk blend. Playing alongside Norwich based Cake and Ale and Bristol acoustic artist Rachel Dadd , the evening was a great variety of very alternative lighthearted music, some for dancing and some for just sitting and enjoying. Polly and the Billets Doux have been around for a while, playing their first unplugged gigs in 2006 around Winchester. Since then, the [...]

PJ Harvey is one of those women that seem to get better with age (a rare kind). And I'm not only referring to her looks (let's be honest...she's not really your next top model) but mostly to her music. Or at least this is what Polly is proving to us all with her latest (eighth) studio album titled Let England Shake. I have to admit that I was a bit let down by her previous two albums. It seemed that Polly was losing her rock touch and turning too sentimental for my tastes. However, as [...]

The phenomenal Polly And The Billets Doux will be doing a special one-off acoustic performance at St Pancras International Train Station this Wednesday 3rd March as part of The Station Sessions . Before that they'll be heading out their second UK tour of 2011 this April, with full dates to be announced shortly. Manchester Scenewipe video session and free download available [...]
