[ download ] If you're going to name your husband and wife duo The Polyamorous Affair , you almost have to make the kind of music this Los Angeles band makes: glamorous, danceable, somewhat frigid dance-pop. On July 14th, the pair will release their sophomore record, the appealingly titled Bolshevik Disco , continuing Eddie Chacon and Sissy Sainte-Marie's musical collaboration. Prior to forming The Polyamorous Affair, Chacon had worked with a panoply of artists and producers that included 2 Live Crew and the Dust Brothers , while Sainte-Marie had [...]

Leave it to Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros to have big ambitions for the visual accompaniment to their forthcoming album, "Up From Below" (due July 14). This video for the L.A. ensemble's "Desert Song," directed by Benjamin Kutsko and Cory Marrero, is billed the first of 12 parts of a "feature-length movie musical." That is frontman Alex Ebert's father chanting is Monument Valley in the opening sequence. Heady stuff, and heady times for the band, which just signed a deal with Chrysalis and seems to have been everywhere lately. I liked their in-studio session last week at [...]

Things have been stacking up in our inbox once again, which means it's time for another Friday Mixed Bag. We totally wish we had more time to spend writing up full posts for each, but either way they are still worth sharing. First up in the bag is a track by the Polyamorous Affair which we totally stole from our good buddy over at Bona Fide Darling . He had some nice things to say about it, but basically we think they have one hell of a band name. Next is a remix by another one of [...]
Next week, anyone with a shred of sense will be traveling to Manchester, Tennessee for the Bonnaroo Music Festival. Ok, so maybe that's not entirely accurate, but a lot of people will be going, including yours truly, many CoS staff members, and a slew of the publicists and artists who supply us with the mp3s needed to create the Friday Mixtape each and every week. Needless to say, creating a new Friday Mixtape for next week, isn't going to be all that easy, and thus, we've made the decision to scrap next week's edition and resume the week after. [...]

I had never heard of The Polyamorous Affair before I read the press release about the duo's upcoming second album, Bolshevik Disco . But it turned out that I actually know a lot more about TPA's Eddie Chacon's amazing musical history than I thought. Prior to launching TPA with wife Sissy St. Marie, he was in a band with Metallica's Cliff Burton and Mike Borden of Faith No More. He later worked on 2 Live Crew's "Me So Horny" and was one-half of neo-soul duo Charles and Eddie (remember their smash single "Would I Lie to You"?) [...]

When I first heard "White Hot Magic" by The Polyamorous Affair two things immediately came to mind: 1) I like this song, 2) it sounds like New Order making love to Daft Punk. The duo from Echo Park, CA (greatest city name ever) are getting ready to release their an album Bolshevik Disco . It's a great summer time jam for all you backyard grillers, roller skaters and picnic'ers. The electronic snares are very New Order and the vocoder is very Daft Punk. Other than that, [...]

Dan Collins (who interviewed Polyamorous Affair here) will be DJing their show (also featuring Blue Jungle) tonight at the Echoplex and Chris Ziegler (who interviewed Magic Lantern and Imaad Wasif) will be DJing their show tonight at the Prospector. Will Roky Erickson records be present at both? Statistically likely. More info on both events here [...]
The Polyamorous Affair make bolshevik disco-pop in a mossy compound in Los Feliz and emerge only to teach kindergarten, play shows or get snowed on. They have an album due on Manimal and co-founder Eddie Chacon used to be in a band with Cliff Burton. This interview by Dan Collins.

[A heaping helping of birthday wishes to David Byrne, and now to capsulize a busy night in the city:] Even if you steer clear of the boldfaced names playing the bigger rooms — Mos Def at the House of Blues, Murs and Tech N9ne at the Key Club, the Indigo Girls at the El Rey Theatre — tonight has a lot to offer. Three of L.A. most promising up-and-comers, Afternoons , the Happy Hollows and Warpaint , combine to fill [...]

So much music, so little time. I've fallen woefully behind when it comes to acknowledging non-album releases (EPs and singles) from L.A. bands, so this edition of the Buzzsicle will make a dent in that. Buzzsicle 5 is an hour's worth of music — 16 songs that have caught my ear in the past few months. Hopefully, it'll provide you a little introduction to, or a refresher course on, the likes of t he Broken Remotes, Star Parts, the Tender Box, Avi Buffalo, Amateurs, Le Switch, Seasons, Courtenay Green, Evan Voytas, the Polyamorous Affair, the Airlines, Ronald of [...]

We love the nightlife We love to boogie Discotheque to discotheque We party all night long.. The Polyamorous Affair are an "Electro-glam" duo which came into existence in 073. Their version of danceable, retro-european disco is something to admire, with influences from T-Rex and Blondie. MP3 of the weekend anthem after the jump.
