The Polyphonic Spree have announced their newest LP Yes It's True for an August release. This'll be the latest in a string of several releases for the Spree, following Songs From the Rocky Horror Picture Show and Holidaydream. Polyphonic Spree frontman Tim Delaughter was kind enough to answer a couple questions about what all his [...]

For some, today was a b-e-a-utiful day, for others, it may as well have been their last. Why so extreme? Because May the 2nd, 2013 is the date marked in everyone's physical and mental calendars as the day SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS tickets go on sale! With the lineup announced just a week ago featuring Mumford and Sons , The National and TV On The Radio 's only Australian shows, Polyphonic Spree performing the Rocky Horror Picture Show , You Am I performing their first two albums and a [...]

Over the last couple of years when we've written about The Polyphonic Spree it mostly focused around their enthusiasm for holiday music. On August 6, the choral-rock ensemble will release their properly punctuated album - Yes, It's True. - their first set of new material since 20072s The Fragile Army . The Tim DeLaughter fronted act, who harnessed the power of crowd-sourcing to help fund their new record in raising $100,000, will head out for a 12-date summer tour, which includes a high profile appearance at the Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, as well [...]

Ahead of this afternoon's announcement I make a point of the pointless... It's nearly May and there is still no announcement from the organisers of Electric Picnic , until later this afternoon of course. With Longitude ( Kraftwerk , Phoenix , Foals , Vampire Weekend ), Forbidden Fruit ( Chic , Four Tet , James Blake , Austra , Daughter ), Iveagh Gardens ( Tallest Man On Earth , Grizzly Bear , Beach [...]

What's more, singer Bilal and bassist Larry Graham have been added to the Rock N' Soul Dance Superjam. The festival’s music lineup already included Paul McCartney, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Mumford and Sons, [...]

Palms are sweaty, knees weak, arms are heavy... Okay, no, Eminem won't be appearing at this years SPLENDOUR IN THE GRASS , but I can imagine that's how you've been feeling on the lead up to this very anticipated day; that being lineup announcement day! We've known the dates, location and rumours for a while now, but what we really want is the list. With some big names confirmed before today that already had us in the line for a ticket (ie James Blake , Polyphonic Spree , Wavves ..) [...]
Nashville buzz-band Kopecky Family Band (KFB) just re-released their playfully exuberant eleven-track debut disc, Kids Raising Kids , via ATO Records. The new disc mixes foot-stomping orchestral pop with vocal harmonies and ringing guitars that sound straight from the 60’s Laurel Canyon scene. While the band’s music will strike a familiar chord with fans of music collectives like Broken Social Scene and The Polyphonic Spree, KFB seems more willing to reach beyond the boundaries of the genre than some of their contemporaries and frequently utilize the ‘exploding’ verse-chorus-verse alt-rock song structure that become popular in the [...]
Schnooked down the backstreet nooks and crannies of Angel, The Lexington seems to be more easily likened to an unofficial Scandinavian embassy with the passing of each and every deplorably wintry week. And in keeping with metaphor, Shout Out Louds may thus tonight be deemed its elder statesmen and woman; its weatherbeaten, though resolutely dedicated gatekeepers. Improbable though it may seem, their then consummate Scandipop début Howl Howl Gaff Gaff will this year somehow, and I've yet to get my head around this one myself, celebrate its tenth anniversary of existence. Seems apt, then, [...]

As most enjoy the sunshine in the world, Portland, celebrates it, everyone out in their summer clothes here as we are breaking into the 70s again this Easter weekend! Download: 02_It_s_The_Sun.mp3 Polyphonic Spree - It's The Sun

Often times you get the feeling that albums are written about a particular relationship that the songwriter endured. Sometimes the lamenting continues across several albums. In 2002, lead singer of Cloud Cult , Craig Minowa, lost his infant son - much more emotionally taxing than a relationship that went south. Not surprisingly, any song Cloud Cult has released since 2002 has been influenced by the event. Yet, what is so compelling about Cloud Cult is Craig Minowa's ability to take a situation that might normally translate into something dark and/or depressed and turn them into songs about the beauty [...]

I'm writing this to you while trying to piece together the past few days and simultaneously fighting off a killer headache. SXSW is complete chaos in the best of ways, with thousands joining together to endure 16 hour days and the inevitable loss of your personal belongs/sobriety. For me it was a chance to be completely immersed in concerts surrounded by my favorite people in music all while wearing shorts. I definitely lied to get into at least one show, and learned that three glasses of water and a red bull vodka will cure almost anything that ails you. Here [...]

photos by Sarah Frankie Linder Polyphonic Spree/Thermals/Diamond Rings The Main was packed for our Friday SXSWS day party (3/15) . That includes the the actual stage, as all 23 members of The Polyphonic Spree on hand to headline. The Spree's joyous set ended with their cover of Nirvana's "Lithium" that had the whole place singing. Diamond Rings -- who now count Miracle Fortress/Think About Life's Graham [...]

It's been a good decade since Dallas's cult-twee band The Polyphonic Spree first emerged on our radar. Back then, they were this cute overly joyful band with god knows how many members that played a style of music that can only be described as a wall of happy sound. Flutes, horns, strings, keyboards, choirs - they were all part of package. It was a breath of fresh air that spawned two fairly popular hits - Hold Me Now and Light and Day . After seeing the band play a set at the Hype [...]
Hello from Austin! I realize my Sprint 4S iPhone cannot handle the amount of people and activity in Austin so it’s been really rough trying to get around with a useless phone. The ability to navigate, contact, google, tweet, instagram, vine, and gmail is very limited. That said, I can’t reach my actual SXSW schedule, which tells me what bands I specifically wanted to see before getting here. It’s okay though, Wednesday still felt pretty productive. Day 2 began with home girl, Effie, ordering food service as she got ready for a show with French [...]

Before shifting its focus to music, SXSW encompasses Internet/technology and film. As you might expect, the tech portion has grown in importance in the last few years and those here for that part of SXSW cast mocking glances in my direction whenever I make use of my Blackberry. This Tuesday afternoon, it's interesting to walk around downtown Austin as the festival starts to shift its focus to its noisiest and rowdiest component. The gigantic Dominos stage that irked Father John Misty last year is in the process of being built and many of the outdoor stages still look [...]
