Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is my personal favorite movie of all time. I love everything about it. There was a point in time where I would watch this movie multiple times a week, every single week, and nothing about it ever got old. The acting, the direction, the script, the editing, the cinematography... everything about this movie is just pitch perfect. But without the music, the movie might not have come together as a whole quite as well as it does. Thankfully, the soundtrack is just about as perfect as the movie itself. Michel [...]

There are two basic motivating forces: fear and love. When we are afraid, we pull back from life. When we are in love, we open to all that life has to offer with passion, excitement, and acceptance. We need to learn to love ourselves first, in all our glory and our imperfections. If we cannot love ourselves, we cannot fully open to our ability to love others or our potential to create. Evolution and all hopes for a better world rest in the fearlessness and open-hearted vision of people who embrace life. - John Lennon [...]

Brooklyn collective, The Silent League , are prepping the release of their new album ...but you've always been the caretaker for January. This new tune has a lot of the grandiose qualities of large collective like The Polyphonic Spree , although the music comes across with a great deal more focus than the aforementioned band, perhaps due to the lack of symphonic sprawl. Regardless, you're sure to find a great bit of enjoyment in this tune. The album will also feature a bonus disc [...]

This year's Christmas Music Spectacular comes in the form of a list, of my favorite Christmas or holiday-themed or even winter-themed songs of all time. For traditional favorites, I'm giving credit to the artist that covered it best to my ears, even though obviously some of the songs on the list were not originally written by the band I've included. But this is a blog , it's not like there are rules, so without further ado, here are my favorite holiday songs ever... 1. " Fairytale of New York " [...]

Another Tuesday with nothing in particular to write about. I'm in the mood for some covers today, I think. Here's a few I've found over the past few years. The Swell Season - "The Auld Triangle" (traditional) I'm still giddy over the Swell Season show last week. This is a live track found streaming on their website. The Polyphonic Spree - "Love My Way" (Psychedelic Furs cover) This was issued as a b-side [...]

The third installment of A Retrospective, this time the focus is on 2002. The year of rebuilding, so to speak. It was the year I discovered Cider Jack (and did so plentifully) at the local Pullman bar Rico's, and we all would rehearse Bill Brasky skits (from the SNL spots, and made up on the spot) as twenty feet away the university jazz combo performed excellent renditions of Van Morrison's "Moondance" and various Motown favorites. As we see every year, 2002 saw several real great releases. Here are my favorites. [...]
Annie Clark has played Columbus a number of times in the past couple of years. I fell in love with Ms. Clark while watching her perform with the Polyphonic Spree at SXSW a few years ago but somehow have managed to miss every one of her St.Vincent shows. Time for that to change. Tour dates below. 2/3 Victoria, BC Element 2/4 Vancouver, BC Venue 2/5 Seattle, WA Neumos 2/6 Portland, OR Doug Fir Lounge (2 shows, 6pm + 10pm) 2/8 San Francisco, CA [...]

Nowhere Boy (2009) John Lennon's early years, including the formation of The Beatles, is chronicled in a the debut feature film by , Nowhere Boy premierd yesterday at the London Film Festival . Check out the trailer: I'm excited for this film to hop the pond, and make its way to a theater near me. Until then, I'm enjoying these John Lennon covers: Nobody Told Me - The Flaming Lips [...]
![[Tracks] The Polyphonic Spree - Blurry](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2067906_lg.jpg)
The Polyphonic Spree have always been on that list of bands I need to check out, but have never gotten around to. In high school a lot of the same kids that were pushing Phish and Widespread Panic were big Polyphonic Spree fans so I sort of wrote them off from the get go. However, I finally came around a couple weeks back when GorillavsBear shared a new demo for the song Blurry . This stripped down version was nothing like what I expected and got me very excited about checking out their back [...]

Suicide Sundaes – stop your grinnin' and drop your linen. Every Sunday electblake and jsully of Earmilk will bring you the weeks dirty servings, and some old favorites through a throwdown-throwback to simpler times. A time when bangers were big, remixes were bigger, the bassline bled, and we didn't care about anything as long as came in kicking and left screaming. To hell with sketchy sunday, we want to shove another dragon down the hole. We're sorry it's been so much time off. Not to make any excuses, but we've had [...]
YES! For those who don't know I'm a big RJD2 fan. I still recall the first time I glanced at the Deadringer CD on the rack....contemplating whether a disc with a bloodied up dude... [go to the website to read the rest of the article, download mp3s and more]

After cancelling on us last winter due to the flu, Kevin Drew led Broken Social Scene back to Dallas and Austin only to make up for the cancelled dates. A cooler, more generous move by any band I cannot recall. Very classy, very cool, and I was extremely impressed. As for the show itself, it was an odd assortment of people, meaning multiple guests, to round out what BSS needed onstage, but the show was still pretty sweet, nonetheless. Hit the jump for the full review, photos, sample MP3s, and the setlist. [...]

listen: tripping daisy :: tragiverse Photos by David . Couple more after the jump... *********** ********

I make no bones about my torrid love affair with all things surrounding David Bowie . And now with a deeply intropsective look into the man behind the music's life, I have even more reason to celebrate the eccentric genius that he is. Bowie takes an in-depth look at the culture of postwar England in which David Jones grew up, the mod and hippie scenes of swinging London in the sixties, the sex and drug-fueled glitter scene of the early seventies when Bowie's alter-ego Ziggy Stardust [...]
![Emmanuel and The Fear – "The Rain Becomes The Clouds" [Tour Dates]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1994671_lg.jpg)
We get letters from all sorts of artists here at Earmilk , but this on particularly stood out to me for some reason. Maybe it was because I saw the words "Orchestra" and "11-Piece". Either way, when I checked it out, I was nothing less than stoked on my new discovery. Emmanuel and The Fear bring a new vibe to the Polyphonic Spree/ Sufjan/ Arcade Fire feel, and I can't get enough of it right now. I think I even hear a little Cursive influence in there. I had never heard of the [...]
For those who demand quantity over quality, here you go - a selection of songs all less than a minute long! In the interests of maintaining listenability I've excluded hundreds of intros / skits / interludes etc, choosing instead to focus on pieces that, while short, still establish their own identity as songs. So here we go, strap yourself in and feel the Gs: thirty-four songs in twenty-five minutes, twenty seconds! 1. The Dodos, "Eyelids" (mp3) 2. Black Flag, "Wasted" (mp3) 3. De La Soul, "A [...]
