This was meant to be posted this past Sunday but Ezarchive was down for a majority of the day for me so I didn't get to put it up. In all honesty, i've hardly written anything at all. I guess it's normal to go through droughts like this. It happened a while back, but I managed to bounce back in a big way. Right now though I feel like I haven't figured out how to manage my time, and by the time I do feel like writing anything I just don't. I always thought the [...]

High Fidelity on relationships and compatibility: " A while back, when dick and Barry and I agreed that what really matters is what you like, not what you are like, Barry proposed the idea of a questionnaire for prospective partners, a two- or three-page multiple-choice document that covered all the music/film/TV/book bases. It was intended a) to dispense with awkward conversation, and b) to prevent a chap from leaping into bed with someone who might, at a later date, turn out to have every Julio Iglesias record ever made. [...]

After the success of the Wilco post, I decided to tackle another much blogged about band, The Postal Service. Quite frankly, I don’t think it gets any better than the lead off track. The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Don’t get me wrong, I love the entire album. But I think this song is the strongest of the bunch. What’s your favorite Postal Service song? Leave a hullabaloo. Get more Postal Service songs via Hype Machine Get [...]
Gawker's new music blog Idolator is finally up--it seems to be premised on music blogs sucking? It's got a little more variety than most music blogs (it doesn't cover just music but music hardware, too), and it's got the Gawker Media connections going for it so it'll probably come up with its fair share of scoops, but . . . so far at least, it's neither unique or interesting. I think I'm subscribing to Johnny Triangles ' aversion to snark: is saying all the music blogs suck just the hipster-ironic excuse for jumping on the [...]

Well, I came across this ditty on the intarweb the other day...a purported new Postal Service track. I am going to tell you right off the bat that I don't believe it at all. The instrumentation sounds like cheap midi, the singer sounds like a poor man's Benjamin Gibbard (who would be a poor man's Benjamin Gibbard? any ideas?), and it bears too much of a resemblance to "We Will Become Silhouettes". Whoever tried this did a decent jorb, I'll admit, but I'm not buying it. For those of you craving new Postal Service, you'll [...]

so i finally got my wish and was added to the very excellent hype machine (thanks anthony) the other day, providing me with a nice little bump in hits. my listing on the hype machine goes back a little way, but not all the way (mostly because i've removed a lot of those links). so, in light of that, here's an earlier post of mine that hopefully a lot more people will see this time around. it's one that i really liked--short, simple, themed, not to mention some of my favorite songs. (if you're coming from [...]

Lange nichts gehört von... Postal Service.
Good Weather for Airstrikes has a pretty good rundown of this brewing controversy. He claims that this new MP3 (or at least his "source" asserts) that this is indeed a Postal Service demo, and features Jimmy Tamberello singing. Apparently the new album, possibly scheduled to be released in early 2007, is going to be divided in thirds, with Jimmy, Ben and Jenny all singing a third. My take? The
This sudden shift into spring has left me feeling completely inverted. The sounds that were ably soothing me through the winter months now seem innapproiate and out of context. Rather than intensify the hunt for new material, I've found myself searching frantically in dark corners, sifting through the debris of ...
Nick here, back again with another installment of The Book/Music Dating Game. This time around all songs were chosen solely based on their shared theme with the respective book. I'd love to hear your suggestions, if you have read any of these books. About half of my choices are based on very concrete themes and parallel events, while the other half come out of common moods and artistic

Ive had the debut from Euro-rockers The Black Neon in my car now for about two weeks and everytime I see it I have to put it in. Now, here is the odd part, I dont love it. And when I say that, you must understand that it is still quite good, but the only reason I can think of that I continue to spin this is that Im hoping it gets better, and maybe it will, if its gonna grow the seeds are certainly planted. You know the type, the album you know you [...]

Follow-up to Mini–mix : Sleep from á la discothèque Without wanting to steal some of the thunder from Jim's excellent Sleep Mini-Mix , it inspired me to create my own, longer version. Whereas Jim made an excellent job of mixing the tracks together seamlessly, I'm rubbish at that kind of thing so [...]
Up until the last few months, I hated remixes. I don't say that lightly either. I really, genuinely despised them. It's hard for me to equate that feeling into words, but it was something to do with the destruction of an original work. I know that remixes are usually done with the consent of the original artist, but it always just seemed wrong to me. Kind of like another director re-editing someone else's film. Recently though, something has changed, and I don't know what. I started getting hold of remixes of songs I [...]

Girl Talk's Night Ripper , this summer's hot blogness, has inspired many conversations between us music geeks. When I got the CD, I grabbed my pad and paper and started scribbling down every sample that I thought I recognized, however challenging it was. So then I e-mailed Heather of I Am Fuel, You Are Friends and after talking about a collaborative post lo and behold she sent me the wiki link to a list of samples and it made our [...]

Hi, this is Taylor from Music For Kids Who Can't Read Good . Liz is in DC for few days and for one reason or another I've been allowed to go loose and wreak havoc on her blog. I thought about posting the whole Gnarles Barkley album or putting up alot of pictures of Latin sensation Ricky Martin. But more sensibly, I think I'm going to feature a couple bands and artists that I've talked about on my site, that I think you guys would enjoy. First off, here's [...]
The Postal Service - Clark Gable I don't know who Clark Gable is, only heard of him somewhere. Turner Classic Movies maybe. So I have no idea why his name would pop out in a song named after him. Dedication maybe? I greased the lens and framed the shot using a friend as my stand-in The script it called for rain but it was clear that day so we faked it The marker snapped and I yelled "quiet on the set" and then called "action!" And I kissed you in [...]
Pete Doherty and Carl Barat had a drink together. NME practically wets itself with excitement. Thom Yorke and Muse have broken the US Album Charts. Fair Play. Watch some Music Videos: Muse - "Supermassive Black Hole" Muse - "Knights Of Cydonia" Radiohead - "Just" Radiohead - "No Surprises" Some indie [...]
Sorry I am a little late in blogging today. I don't know how many of you guys read my blog , but if you do, you probably know I was in the car for 5 hours today, coming back to Missouri from Arkansas. But, the blog must go on. The song I think all you Bubble Death-ers need to hear today is called Be Still My Heart, by my favorite Ben Gibbard side project, the Postal Service. It comes from their We Will Become Silhouettes single. It is very solid for a B-side, [...]
