Very rarely am I at a concert and only have my focus on the opening (rather than the headlining) band. It’s not that I wasn’t excited to see the Wombats last night; I was just overly excited to see the Postelles . Their album has wormed its way into my personal rotation since I first heard it in June, and after the show I made a point to get it on vinyl (side note: I am a hipster). But, as I’ve been in the position before, let’s show some love to the opening band. [...]
In an interview with Baeble , The Postelles lead singer Daniel Balk describes his band's sound as "influenced by late '50s rock n' roll, '60s retro and '70s punk". I can't think of a better way to describe it myself and tossing out comparisons to the likes of The Strokes and The Black Lips seem appropriate. With a gig on Friday night at Outland on Liberty (opening for The Wombats) to promote, bassist John Speyer checked in on an off-night from New Orleans last week, the night [...]

The Midwest is getting some much needed love from a New York City indie rock band. Wednesday, November 2, The Postelles will be visiting Kansas City for the first time when they play the RecordBar with The Wombats. Midcoast Station caught up with lead singer Daniel Balk to find out what Kansas Citians can expect and to learn a little bit more about the group. You can read the full interview below. Bethany, Midcoast Station: You guys are getting ready to tour-well, you already are [...]

New York garage rockers The Postelles will be opening up for their UK counterparts The Kooks on November 23rd at The Sound Academy. Tickets are $26.50 and the show will commence at 8:00 PM. Both acts recently released new albums, The Kooks' titled Junk of the Heart , and The Postelles' being eponymous. The two share an effortless cool demeanor heard distinctively through their sounds and hopefully seen on stage, (although something tells me I have nothing to worry about.) Be sure [...]

Months ago when the Wombats autumn North American tour was announced, I was even more incredulous when I saw the entire bill for the second gig in DC as the 9:30 Club. The openers were to be the Static Jacks (who I'd seen open for Futureheads and Biffy Clyro last year) and one of my personal favourites, New York's Postelles. So I already knew with three bands that I love playing on one night was going to be an event of epic proportions. I just didn't [...]

Last weekend (October 6-9), FILTER Magazine sponsored their second annual Culture Collide festival. Exposing international artists to the ears of Angelenos is the name of the game at Culture Collide, and this year's Echo Park-based festival saw CSS (Brazil), Clap Your Hands Say Yeah (USA), Liam Finn (NZ), and Datarock (Norway) as well as artists from Australia, China, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Iran, Ireland, Israel, etc. Here's a re-cap of what you missed. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ [...]

78 degrees, sun, enormous park in the middle of the Midtown neighborhood in Atlanta - those are some helpful ingredients for a music festival. It also helps when the festival goes off like clockwork, with great food and not too many long lines. But what really makes any music festival a success is the music itself, and that ingredient certainly didn’t disappoint yesterday at Music Midtown , Atlanta ’s major festival that was returning for the first time in six years. While the headliners were great, I thought [...]

Being a recent transplant to Atlanta, Music Midtown is a festival I’ve heard a lot about but never had the pleasure of attending. The event previously ran annually as a 2-day and later 3-day festival from 1996-2005, in various locations throughout midtown and downtown Atlanta, and was a huge success. In its later years the festival drew over 300,000 people and brought acts such as Tom Petty, The Killers, Bob Dylan, and Dave Matthews Band to Atlanta. In comparison, Bonnaroo typically draws around 100,000, and Lollapalooza, a similar in-town festival, draws around 160,000. Music Midtown was [...]
It’s been a busy summer for The Postelles. In June they released their first full length album. And as if that wasn’t enough (it wasn’t!) they gave the world a four track EP with covers of four songs that they love. Now they’re gearing up for a couple of different tours to close out summer and ride into fall including Midtown Music Festival in Atlanta, supporting The Wombats and then The Kooks in the US. Music Player: [...]

![FASHION’S NIGHT OUT [MUSIC GUIDE]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3706884_lg.jpg)
Two years ago Anna Wintour, in all her evil genius, hoisted upon the unsuspecting masses Fashion’s Night Out - A night where we normals get to pretend to be important by mingling at high fashion stores we would never otherwise walk into and get shitfaced so we can more easily spend our hard earned money on things that will make us feel pretty. Personally, I love it. If the pretty people, free booze and sales on jeans and shoes don’t convince you to spend today wandering around the consumer hubs of our great city, maybe the list of [...]
![[Album Review/Listen] – The Postelles – “The Postelles”](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3656626_lg.jpg)
Tweet Buy the album on Amazon - MP3 | CD Hailing from New York, The Postelles are fresh on the scene, but they've actually been around for a while. There were a some missteps along the way which delayed the release of their debut album by a few years. In 2008, they failed to sign with Capitol, and in July of 2010, they were dropped by EMI, much to the disappointment [...]

Escape To NY (Aug 5-7, 2011) So, today I got an email from Flash deal site LivingSocial.com offering packages to the Escape To New York Festival ( Aug 5-7 ) in Southampton, NY. I'm a little dubious as to whether or not this offering is actually a good value, but here's what you get: Escape Kit • A Three-Day, Four-Night Boutique Camping Stay for Four Guests from August 4 to 7 in a Teepee Tent on the Shinnecock Reservation [...]
Last week we alerted you to a free download of the Postelles ' cover of the Smiths' 'Ask'. What we didn't know was that they were going to offer up an entire EP of covers called 'Summer Undercovers' for free download, otherwise we would have clued you in to this bundle instead. It includes: 'Ask' (the Smiths Cover) 'California Sun' (Joe Jones Cover) 'Whole Wide World' (Wreckless Eric Cover) 'Beat on the Brat' (The Ramones Cover) - Recorded live at the Postelles' album release show [...]

It's the fourth week of July, and sadly/luckily we embark upon the second half of summer. This is normally a rather quiet season as far as record releases go - but not in NYC, as another wave of new music rolled in with the fated, torrid heat. Make sure to catch EPs, LPs, and singles dropping from artists Allison's Invention, Carloman, The Static Jacks, and The Postelles. New Jersey natives and garage/punk heroes, The Static Jacks (top picture) are anticipating the release [...]

It's been a long while since I've posted a Sunday Radio Dick feature, which usually required hours of prep work for me each week. I'm feeling a little energetic rolling into Sunday, so I'll throw down with an old school Radio Dick - our long-time readers know how these roll. For those new to the garden party, it's essentially a weekly roundup of some tracks that either 1) garnered plenty of newsworthy hype - warranted or not, or 2) were missed by me throughout the week. I consider this the arena to sort of lob tracks at [...]
