The Postelles - “Whole Wide World” (Wreckless Eric Cover) One day before the Postelles are set to drop a free summer covers EP, appropriately titled Summer Undercovers , the NYC garage rock outfit have shared their take on Wreckless Eric’s 1977 anthem to unrequited love, “(I’d Go The) Whole Wide World.” Check out their feedback-laced take, which impressively captures enough of the original’s spirit while modernizing the bass punch a bit, above. The Postelles released their debut last month, but they're not satisfied resting on their laurels. No, the boys from New York City decided to cover the unlikeliest of songs: the Smiths' 'Ask'. Now, as a devoted Smiths fan, I imagined this could have gone terribly, terribly wrong. Seriously, who can match the flirty, sexual ambiguity of Morrissey's vocals? But the Postelles gave the Smiths gem their own spin and it's fab. Download it in exchange for your email address below. And yes, coyness is nice...

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars Hailing from New York City, The Postelles seem to have the perfect infectious sound for the summertime. With catchiness reminiscent to that of past releases of bands like The Drums and Surfer Blood , they have crafted a fairly simple, yet bubbling pop album in this freshman debut. The album begins with “White Night,” which shows off the instant capabilities of this band to make you move your feet. Jangly guitar welcomes you in, along with some punching [...]

Over its 12-year existence between 1994 and 2005, Music Midtown brought such musical heavyweights as Foo Fighters, Bob Dylan, and Crosby, Stills & Nash to downtown Atlanta. However, growing competition in the form of a li'l Teneesse-based festival called Bonnaroo, not to mention a tropical storm that ravaged the 2005 edition of the festival, forced Music Midtown to cancel its 2006 edition. It hasn't returned since... until now. Coldplay and The Black Keys will headline a revamped one-day version of Music Midtown on September 24th at Piedmont Park. Other confirmed acts include Cage the Elephant, Band of Skulls, [...]

The Echo became a haven for buoyant, squeaky-clean guitar pop on Wednesday as the Postelles closed the night out as part of a stellar all-ages lineup. Clinging to a hybrid of sticky melodies from the doo-wop days and the energy of today’s garage-rock scene, the New York City quartet played to a young, eager crowd who dialed into to its kinetic delivery. The Manhattan-bred foursome quickly made a name for itself three years ago in the Big Apple, but due to contractual complications, their momentum was put on pause before anybody could actually [...]

The Postelles - Hold On Buy US:

One of my favorite things to to discover a great new band when I'm at a venue to see someone else. That's how I found The Postelles last year. About all I knew at that point was that they were discovered and produced by Albert Hammond, Jr. of The Strokes. I figured I'd stay for a song or two, and wound up wishing their entire set was longer. They have a definite melodic consistency. The Strokes themselves will probably never return to their early freshness, but what we get from these New Yorkers is much of that same vibe, only [...]
For a little over a decade, the city of Toronto has thrown their hat into the music festival ring, presenting North by Northeast, an answer to the over-saturated festival landscape of their fatter friends to the South.

The Postelles ' self-titled album is fun. I could really stop there, because that is the best way to epitomise what this record and what this band is about. They are fun, unashamedly fun. From first song ‘White Night’ to album closer ‘She She’ ,this indie four-piece encompasses the same kind of 60’s summer vibe that Vampire Weekend have done so successfully. Lead singer Daniel Balk has already found the perfect way to project a smile on anyone’s face. His voice drips with boyish charms and you can just imagine he’d be [...]
