In addition to sharing her favorite musical memories from the past year, NYC-based vocalist Madison counts down her favorite releases from 2010.

Shuffling through their arsenal of retro tunes, Sargent House favorites The Postelles kicked off the night with a high energy set that captivated an early crowd. The quartet's ability to infuse Motown with garage-rock in a live setting is a testament to the young outfit's overall ability and enormous potential. Looking forward to catching a headlining show in 2011. The last time I saw Steel Train was coincidentally during their tour as an opener for the Format, right before the release of their second full-length, Trampoline . The band was [...]

Firstly, go download all of Everybody Taste's Halloween picks . Then, if you like to dance (and you do), throw these songs on a playlist with them and have a silly costumed weekend. Cheers. Hooray For Earth vs Twin Shadow - "A Place We Like" Crystal Castles Ft. Robert Smith - "Not In Love" Postelles - "White Night"

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News It seemed like the Postelles couldn't have planned it more perfectly. On Wednesday, the same night they were to begin the first of two CMJ shows, the New York foursome finished off their weekly residency at Bowery Electric. And to celebrate the double occasion, the post-punk pop-rock hybrid wanted to put it all out there, especially for the out-of-towners. "Welcome to New York and CMJ week," frontman Daniel Balk [...]
After a triumphant 2010, that included the release of their acclaimed debut LP, Weathervanes, Queen's popular indie band, The Freelance Whales, are keeping fans engaged into the waning months of 2010 with a new song, "Enzymes." At first, it doesn't really sound like the FW; the sound is more heavily infused with an indie pop [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

THE POSTELLES | THE POSTELLES ASTRALWERKS What would happen if you crossed Arctic Monkeys with The Monkees? You might get The Postelles, a garage-pop band from New York City, who were described on one website as a fusion of “Jan & Dean and a slightly more mod-ish version of the Strokes” (the comparison is not far off; The Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr. produced four of the tracks). But back to the songs. They make you wanna dance. Sure, [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Holy Hell At their inaugural loft party at last year's edition of Pop Montreal , Ottawa-based rock group Hollerado introduced the Nacho House concept: a late-night mixture of booze, bands and a supply of the group's own Nacho recipe. For their return this year, the organizers needed to one-up themselves. Finding a new, more central location, they branched out from the energetic indie rock that dominated [...]
A ridiculously catchy old-timey inspired tune from some NYC 20-somethings getting ready to drop their debut album later this year.

Merge It was announced last month that following a long, fruitful run on the venerable 4AD label, John Darnielle was herding up his Mountain Goats and moving to the equally venerable Merge Records for the release of the next Mountain Goats record and presumably a number of its successors. But before that run of records begins - presumably next year - there will come Undercard , a new album from the Darnielle project with frequent collaborator and contributor Franklin Bruno under the [...]
Today, us east coast kids are hunkered down, waiting for that hurricane that probably won't hit us at all but which provides a good excuse to take the day off! Of course, we at Consequence of Sound don't even know what this day off thingy means and will probably work through the 2012 apocalypse. But you should enjoy a day off, just for the sake of having more time to read all our great content AND listen to all the awesome music included on this week's Friday Mixtape. Once again, it's jam packed and thanks to the recent [...]

The Postelles are an American band based in New York City who be right at home alongside what Sunderland's Frankie and the Heartstrings and Sheffield's Crookes are doing these days: a return to simplicity and what made everyone love rock 'n' roll in the first place back in the '50s and '60s, yet updating it for 21st century ears. Clear yet catchy vocals, gorgeous harmonies, and great guitars and drumming. I saw the Postelles open for Portland's Hockey in March and I thought they were stunning. Apparently, [...]
Earlier this year Train sat down with The Postelles. Since then their White Night EP was released and more recently they released a cover of Buddy Holly's Everyday. And not only do I see The Postelles as the next Strokes, but Everyday is definitely my favorite Holly song. The guys are currently on tour playing shows [...]
