Scott Lucas performing with the Married Men | Photo by Audrey Leon I've never had the pleasure of visiting the Flat Iron while it's busy, but Scott Lucas - frontman for Local H and Scott Lucas & The Married Men - assures me the place is packed after 2 a.m. We're sitting in the heart of Wicker Park not far from the hustle and bustle of six corners. The area is not only Lucas' home base in the city, but where he works; Lucas played a headlining show [...]

What a change in sound for Local H's Scott Lucas . After spending the last 15 years (geez, has it really been that long????) pumping out heavy, post-grunge rockers, Lucas just released his first "solo" record under the name Scott Lucas & The Married Men . There is nary a hint of aggression in these songs that Lucas likens to material by Mark Lanegan, Pink Floyd and Pavement and while Lucas did write all the songs, the members of the band add their own flavor to George Lassos the Moon . With just [...]
Introducing Monday Afternoon Quick Fix ! A brand new series that will run every Monday afternoon to showcase the best of Chicago music news, views and stories from around the interwebs and blogosphere that we might have missed. China Shop offered up an extensive 3-part profile of [...]

While some of the choices may come as a surprise to those who regularly follow AtomicNed.com, the variety of favorites shouldn't be shocking. While I certainly have been much more of a trendfollower than a trendsetter over the course of my music listening history, it comes down to liking what I like and not always liking what the masses of respected music writers/bloggers like. I mean, how many other writers do you think have both Slayer and Taylor Swift on their year-end favorites list? 1. Danger Danger [...]

Guess I'm not going to be looked at as a trendsetter this year. Believe me, I'm as surprised as anyone that my two favorite releases of the year were put out by bands that were active in the hair metal community in the late '80s. But when I went back and scanned through iTunes to see what I listened to the most, these are the ones that were clear cut favorites. 1. Danger Danger - Revolve The best CD of 1989 was released 20 years late! This [...]

Remember when I mentioned that some of the Chicago Disco Massive were launching a new disco-centric party in the new year? I rarely post on specific events, but today they unveiled their first guest as the one and only Mike Simonetti (of Italians Do It Better ) and that's one hell of a kickoff that's left me excited and impressed. The party is titled Trick Disco , the inaugural evening is scheduled for January 15th and it will take place, going forward, the third Friday of every month at Subterranean here in Chicago. [...]

It seems like the last month or so I've had zero motivation to go out to a good club night. It's not that my love for electronic music has faded in recent times, it's simply the time of the year where feeling anti-social just comes so naturally. It's times like this when you need something good to force you to get out and interact with humans again. There's nothing like some all-stars of the Chicago House scene playing on a rooftop in Downtown Phoenix to make me absolutely sure that I'm hitting the club. Santiago & Bushido are [...]

The Prairie Cartel's full-length debut album Where Did All My People Go takes the listener on a 78-minute auditory roller coaster ride of fast-paced dance punk and slower synth-infused rock compositions. If you survive the ride, you will want to do it all over again. According to the Prairie Cartel, the band began as a way to pass the time during Chicago's lengthy and punishing winters. And what better way to heat things up than to fully indulge one's self in making an excellent synth-filled electro-rock album [...]

via erik baar Chicago's own Prairie Cartel released a new album a few weeks ago, Where Did All My People Go . Last featured back when the Hey Champ remix of "Cracktown" a while back, the 'Cartel carry a grungy, digitized dance-rock vibe well. Here's a Bright Lights remix of "No Light." The Prairie Cartel - No Light (Bright Lights Remix) I can't stop playing this Extrawelt jam. Sure it's been out for a while, released as a single on Border [...]
Snappy comments, etc, coming in a few hours but for now I am late and figure you want these jams sooner rather than later. Do I even need to write intros to these things anymore? I'm trying to keep these things leaner and meaner so let's get on with the show! ♫ Prairie Cartel - Cracktown (Hey Champ Remix) / Umm, did you read who is on this track? Yeah, its fresh, but you knew that already. Bust out the strobe light and get freaky. Photo Credit: Audrey Leon Local electro-rockers Prairie Cartel celebrated the release of their debut album Where Did All My People Go with a gig at the brand new Lincoln Hall . The 45-minute set included such notable tracks as "Homicide" and the single "No Light Escapes Here." For a band that is still in its relative infancy - Prairie Cartel came about in 2005 - it hosts such seasoned Chicago rock veterans as Scott Lucas (Local H) [...]

my apologies for the late post today, but a night of carousing on the town and the almighty flu bug are to blame. anyhow, here's a serving of some saucy, sing-along rock n' roll to cure any of tonight's shortcomings. Eulogies - Day to Day Jail - There's No Sky (Oh My My) Royal Bangs - War Bells The Prairie Cartel - No Light Escapes Here

Three reasons to see The Prairie Cartel at Lincoln Hall tonight... 1. The Prairie Cartel is the band you have been waiting for. They'll sweep you off your feet and get you dancing until sunrise. Their new album Where Did All My People Go came out today and features the standout tracks "Cracktown," "Jump Like Chemicals" and "Suitcase Pimp." 2. The Prairie Cartel is yet another side project by Chicago's resident dynamo Scott Lucas; this [...]

We were not familiar with the term and thus we had to consult the urban dictionary to discover the truth. All kidding aside the reason for mentioning the urban yeti is that you actually see one in the new video from the band The Prairie Cartel for their catchy as hell track " No Light Escapes Here ". The video was directed by the Chinese award winning film maker/animator Peng Lei . He himself is actually a musician and he plays in the band New [...]

where did all my people go? ♫ The Prairie Cartel - Cracktown The lyric above is also the name of The Prairie Cartel's debut LP. It's also a question I have been asking myself as I settle back into Warsaw. Anyway, you guys can appreciate the industrial-pop jam and I'll appreciate the deeper meanings, cool? It's Saturday night and this is just the kind of step-popper that gets me bouncing out the door and into the evening. Although The Prairie Cartel hail from Chicago, I'm not sure if that [...]
