Not intent on winding up as one of the Nineties modern rocks greatest one-hit wonders (okay, they had a few hits including "Lump") The Presidents of the United States of America have been in and out of our musical consciusness since they debuted. Recently they released their new album These Are Good Times People. While the band broke up in 1998 each member pursued their own musical projects.

So last weekend I took a dreadfully long bus from Vancouver down to Seattle. Typically I think the drive should be 2.5 to 3 hours, but due to extraneous stops, a hold-up at the border, and arriving in Seattle in rush hour it was a long, stuffy 5 hours. I stayed at the lovely Green Tortoise Hostel (cheap, clean, convenient, free breakfast!), right across the street from the famed Pike Place Market. Even better was that the two Harvey Danger shows I was going to were at the Triple Door, just around the corner less [...]

After listening to Thee Headcoatees' cover of Plastic Bertrand 's smash Ça Plane Pour Moi I thought: did more girls cover this? Yes, they did. Take leatherclad Swiss girlband Tears. Or pophiphop-star Leila K. Or German rockers Paula (ofcourse, we know leadsinger Elke Brauweiler from her solo-project). But the boys are present too, as are a bunch of pinguins. If you check Allmusic.com , you'll find even more versions (anybody has the versions by Aluminum Babe? Annie Dufresne? Or the Spanish version by Manic Hispanic?). Bring 'm on! I will play a few no doubt this Saturday @ [...]

Because... A couple of 'em were humping under my car last night. It went something like "Rrreeeerrrr, rwarwararawrawrawrwrrrr (five second pause) mwoar, mwoar, mwoar (two second pause) eeeeereeerererrrrrrr rwawwwwwaaarrr (three second pause) mwoar mwoar mwoar mwoar mwoaaaaaaar (silence)." I can totally relate. Jaga Jazzist - Kitty Wu (from The Stix ) At this year's prom, the sax sports an olive skirt, the vibraphone dons glass slippers, and the drum samplers spike the punch bowl, and then gulp it all down. Who: New Bloods Title: The Secret Life Release Date: April 8th Label: Kill Rock Stars Thoughts: Who could possibly have foreseen that a trio of women, featuring violin, bass, and drums, would coagulate to form a sick ass, sort of punk (for lack of a better term) band? Not this guy for one, but goddamn, listening to the new New Bloods album is like a revelation of sorts. It's a bit on the slower

Funny that a band named after the leader of "the free world" release a song called "Mixed Up S.O.B." right around primary voting time. It's a good way to get attention, eh? However, it didn't work that way for me. I just stumbled on the news this morning after seeing an ad for them coming to Philadelphia (though the band posted the new song five days ago). They have a new record coming March 11, These are the Good Times People . PUSA is one of those bands that do try many subtly different things on each [...]

Thai police officers that break the rules are forced to wear hot pink Hello Kitty armbands. Well, I would break the stinkin' rules just to become a Hello Kitty cop. Of course I'm a girl and not some macho police cop man, but I can't believe they turned something so sweet and purdy into a magic manhood stealing piece of fabric. I say wear it with pride! If you get laughed at just whip out that big ass Hello Kitty gun. Yeah, who's cute now, punk??? [AP] Presidents Of The USA [...]
Any excuse for a post, eh? But these are really fun cat songs. I think Udler would have approved. This is a remarkably similar likeness of him, btw. I'm amazed I found it. So by now, I'm sure all of you have heard that the Copyright Royalty Board, supposedly in the name of looking out for musical artists everywhere, has decided to put cement overshoes on Internet Radio broadcasters everywhere and dump them in the river. Which means we might as well be going back to listening to radios like the one pictured above/ For us, the listeners of internet radio, it's a matter of losing another avenue of finding new music. Obviously something that we bemoan, but clearly not [...]

Flow Dynamics is an Aussie funk band. A really good Aussie funk band. Just got my hands on their debut disc, and after half a spin I can tell it's going to be on heavy rotation for a long, long time. Too busy to tell you more about them right now, but if you're generally a fan of the music posted on this blog, you'll want to own this one. I had to order it from Australia, but it was well worth the wait. In [...]

MTV celebrates its 25th anniversary of programming today, and is re-airing the first 24 hours of its original broadcasting on VH1 Classic. The first video they showed was The Buggles' "Video Killed The Radio Star," which is a total guilty pleasure to do that '80s head-jerk dance to (and you must admit how many of the lyrics you do, in fact, know). You can hear it in your head right now: you might as well give in and download it. That was before MTV forsook music videos almost entirely for sagas [...]
