Songwriter, producer, and Raconteurs co-founder Brendan Benson announced his own record label and publishing company, Readymade. The upstart will make its debut on 4/10 with Give Me My Change from Young Hines, a promising Chicago-based songwriter who will open for Benson throughout his 2012 tour. Benson's new album, What Kind of World, will also be released through
2012 has begun. Deal with it. We've looked into our crystal ball and come up with a few things we think would happen this year, besides you know, the apocalypse. Here we go! Seeing the success of Kanye and Jay-Z's Watch The Throne collaboration, Canadian rappers Shad and K-os will collaborate on an album as well, only to realize that Ni**as in Paris,Ontario doesn't have the same power The declining American economy forces Ke$ha to change her name to K€sha Doctors are shocked when Beyonce does not give [...]
There was quite a buzz in the air at The Tabernacle on Sunday night, with a packed house of Raconteurs fans very excited that the band chose Atlanta for the last stop on their incredibly brief tour (Nashville, New Orleans, Orlando, Atlanta). The band says that as of now they have no plans to record [...]
The Raconteurs, with only a hand-full of shows of their calendar for 2011, played a sold-out crowed at The Tabernacle this past Sunday night. The supergroup featuring Jack White (The White Stripes), Brendan Benson, Jack Lawrence, and Patrick Keeler (the latter two of The Greenhornes) brought their two albums of material to The Tabernacle with [...]

Florida is packed with a million things. Heck, there's more real (and artificial) America that's trickled down into Florida over the last half-century than in most states. That's doubly true for Orlando, the state's defacto central-most city. Now take that, and the amped-up entertainment precedent in the area (ranging from strip clubs to Disney World to The Holy Land Experience ) and try making a music festival to compete. Imagine you have tons of money and experience in putting on festivals, but have never put on a gig in America before. That's the position Festival Republic was [...]
The Voodoo Experience is now in the rearview and the relentless fall concert schedule is starting to slow down (although one could easily keep themselves busy on the live circuit until NYE) and therefore it's time to start speculating about the 2012 Jazz Fest lineup. Hard to say who will be at the top of [...]

Though it would probably be overstepping to grant Morphine the kind of singular distinction usually thrown at the likes of jazz fusion pioneer Miles Davis or Barryfest-endorsed darkly sarcastic American duo Steely Dan, it would be incredibly disingenuous not to acknowledge that this Boston-bred oddball of the 1990s - adept at melting fiery blues and avant-garde jazz into an alternative rock foundation - was simply the most unique group of musicians from that decade. Known as much for their almost universal aversion to electric guitars and strange, delicate use of traditional instruments (heavily effect-laden saxophone and slide bass [...]
At long last, Voodoo week is here and although my costume status is still TBD, I've navigated through the festival schedule to pick out a few shows that I wouldn't recommend missing out on if you're gonna be in City Park this weekend. The closer this thing gets, the more intrigued I am by this [...]
We're giving away another weekend pass for the 2011 Voodoo Experience....

I'm still surprised as to why I haven't signed up for Third Man Records' subscription service, The Vault . It might have to do with the fact that I'm broke as all hell but I'm heavily considering a career in theft to get enough money to sign up for the service. My future life of crime could be due to the fact that the forthcoming package from the vault is quite huge. It includes a 73 vinyl that features a remix of The White Stripes "The Hardest Button to Button" remixed by Beck and [...]

Membership has its privileges, especially in the case of Third Man Records' Vault music series. The 10th installment of the subscription service, which offers members access to exclusive and unreleased Jack White-related material, includes remixes of The White Stripes' "The Hardest Button to Button" by Beck and The Dead Weather's "Hang You From the Heavens" by Josh Homme and Mark Lanegan. Both cuts are pressed on 73 vinyl. Rounding out the package is a 123 live album of The Raconteurs' first show in three years at Nashville's Third Man Records HQ last month, as well as a DVD of Third Man's Devil's Night 2010, featuring performances [...]

Not sure how we missed this one, but it looks like Michigan natives Brendan Benson (Raconteurs) and Ben Blackwell (Dirtbombs) teamed up on a split 73 paying homage to the city of Detroit. Released last month on Blackwell's Cass Records , the disc features each artist turning in one Detroit themed tune. The single was pressed in an edition of 1000 copies, and each one comes in a hand stamped sleeve. Pick one up here for $7.

This Halloween, Verboten descends upon the Big Easy for a long weekend of music, art and debauchery at The Voodoo Experience Presented by Stephen Rehage in New Orleans. Based on the overwhelming response to its dedicated electronic dance music area Le Plur, the festival continues the dance marathon with DeJa Voodoo is Verboten after parties from electronic artists who are appearing as part of the Voodoo line-up. Throughout Voodoo's Halloween weekend celebration (Friday, October 28, Saturday, October 29 and Sunday, October 30), some of world's top underground talent will perform at the fan favorite Le Plur area including Cassy, [...]
Regardless of your thoughts on this year's lineup, to the festival's credit, the Voodoo Experience always does a bang-up job of compiling one of the most unique, wholly eccentric and random yearly lineups of any American festival. No one outside of the Rehage camp could've envisioned this sorta lineup and I'm actually kind of excited about it after having been to Bonnaroo and ACL this year (two great festivals, but two with a great deal of crossover acts). Doubt I'll get another chance to see Soundgarden, Blink-182, Fatboy Slim, Peelander Z and Snoop in the same weekend.
