This is the halfway point, not just of Saturday, but of the entire weekend. Keepin up? Good, so much more to see and hear. Since this is part 2, it's 4:30 until the end. The afternoon does not start out any easier than earlier in the day. Four choices confront you: The Long Winters , an indie-pop outfit from the Pacific Northwest, provide beautiful melodies and harmonies over bouncy guitars. And if you recognize something about them, it's leader John Roderick, who has seen action with Harvey Danger and Western State [...]
I turned on the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards because I saw something about Jack Black hosting it. After being a long time fan and all, I figured that I owed it to myself. Black's intro, however, was just not funny. I thought he had it in him, I really did...but, such [...]

1. Giant Drag 's cover of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game" is awesome first thing in the morning when you have no idea where you are. 2. According to the most heard song of the weekend, if you ever see something coming over a hill, it's probably a monster (although "Eddie Munster" is also valid). 3. Dirty Pretty Things really don't have enough material for an entire set. Nice trumpet though. 4. The Silent [...]

Give the people what they want, that's what I always say. Judging from the web searches that land at this blog, most people are looking for the Raconteurs, and Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour. There's also some really weird search queries, but I'll get to those some other day for a laugh. So here's the song of the summer done acoustically. Ok- the song of the summer is probably Crazy by Gnarls Barkley, which ironically the Raconteurs covered at Lollapalooza. Steady, As She Goes is a good hard pop song, and I [...]

From time to time I field questions about why EAR FARM isn't talking about/featuring some of the current 'hot' indie bands or songs. This site has always operated under the assumption that not featuring certain music said all that needed to be said about those artists (from an EAR FARM perspective) and that there are already plenty of other sites giving service to these much talked about bands. Besides, when any music really scratches the EF itch it gets a mention. Still though...checking in each week with what's popular over at music blog aggregator Elbo.ws [...]

Lately, I have been experiencing a rare case of too-much-good-music-overload, which has put me in an indefinite state of euphoria. And of course as my duty to my fellow music community, I need to share these little pieces of endorphin-enhancing eargasms. Please enjoy! Brazilian Girls | "Jique" Cansei De Ser Sexy | "Alala" Shiny Toy Guns | "Le Disko" The Raconteurs | "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot me Down) (Nancy Sinatra Cover)" [...]
After the dust settled from a variety of bloggers "half-way-to-the-best-albums-o f-the-year" lists Broken Boy Soldiers found itself with scant representation. As it is, in my opinion, one of the better albums of the year, I must attribute it to fallout from overexposure. Believe it or not...when I spoke with some "real" friends of mine, [...]

I HAVE TO SAY THAT I WANTED TO LIKE THIS RECORD, BUT THE TRUTH.....................WELL IT'S NOT THAT GREAT. I COULD WRITE A LONG WINDED REVEIW ABOUT WHY IT'S NOT GREAT, AND HOW IT DOES HAVE A COUPLE OF GOOD MOMENTS, BUT I WON'T. JACK WHITE GO HANG OUT WITH MEG. I KNOW SHE CAN'T PLAY DRUMS, BUT AT LEAST WHEN THE TWO OF YOU ARE TOGETHER IT MAKES SENSE, AND IF SOMETHING MAKES SENSE THEN YOU SHOULD GO WITH IT AND PUSH IT. SO JACK TELL MR. BENSON TO QUIT TRYING TO RIDE YOUR LIGHTING AND GO BACK TO HIS [...]
So back to usual, so good to be home. I will finish putting all of the pics from Lollapalooza on Flickr tonight. There are like 200 of them. I put a few up from day one just so you could get an idea. I changed the format of the site, this will be the last time I hope. A lot happened while I was gone let's get up to date. Albert Hammond Jr is releasing a solo album, it is available to listen on myspace, check it out. [ link ] [...]
There is a lot to be said on motivations behind bands covering songs. Truth is that even though we (the critical masses) think we know everything, only each artist can say for sure why he or she decided to cover a particular song. Some songs get covered by everyone ("All Along the Watchtower"). Some songs get covered it seems as a cry for help, or in hope that a blog will pick it up. How else would anyone have found out that James Blunt played a Pixies song at Coachella ? I guess it doesn't matter either [...]
Yes, I know, I just posted some live Raconteurs the other day. These are different - two are irresistable covers. I just got them yesterday. The Raconteurs, Michigan Theater, Ann Arbor MI, 2006-08-05 (mp3s): Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down) (Nancy Sinatra) It Ain't Easy (David Bowie) Together Own Broken Boy Soldiers.
The Raconteurs were my highlight of day one of Lolla. But, I kind of knew they would be. Jack White knows how to have fun on stage and he makes everyone vibe on his energy. When Brendan Benson approached the mic before they played their first song he introduced the band as "The Raconteurs from Nashville, Tennessee..." I guess the boys really have had enough of Detroit. When I chatted with White while he was in Memphis mixing the last White Stripes record at Ardent he told me he was in town looking for a house. I guess we [...]
My attempt to post an MP3 by every band/artist from Lollapalooza (excluding those on the kids stage) has finally come to an end. Hooray! At this point, I think I got almost everyone except Sa Ra, Manishevitz, The Burden Brothers, Moses Mayfield, Assassins, and Makeshifte. I did post a few by nands that cancelled from the orignial lineup so hopefully you can all forgive me. Posts will be infrequent over the weekend as I take in the sights and sounds of Lollapalooza and a full wrap-up will follow next [...]
