Two major summer music festivals have announced lineup additions today. HT faves Yonder Mountain String Band, Lettuce and Toubab Krewe are among the additions to the All Good Music Festival lineup. Today, they release a new single, "Radiation" b/w "Scrape It Off," and they've helpfully posted both of the songs online. Mr. Dream drummer Nick Sylvester, a great friend of mine, produced both tracks, and they both capture a squalid and visceral beauty that you wouldn't necessarily imagine when you read the words "Brooklyn no-wave duo." As reported before, French imprint Hands In The Dark has gathered two of America's finest experimental musicians, Lee Noble and Brian Pyle aka Ensemble Economique , to fill both sides of Motion Forever , one of those split LPs that actually make a whole lot of sense. Designer Anton Schnaider and Art Lebedev has created a radiator in the shape of a T-Rex skeleton, that he's dubbed the Thermosaurus . The concept works just like any other radiator. It's made of cast iron and though it strikes me as not practical, the team behind it says, "the item is highly efficient and energy-savvy, thanks to its complex structure that includes a skull, spine, ribs, legs, and tail bones" used as the heating mechanism. Mixing '50s doo-wop vocals with modern indie rock -- and then releasing their debut album on cassette only--has certainly made Radiation City stand out in the crowd. A love for Barney's Version , OutKast, and borrowing turntables from the '40s makes us love the group even more. Portland's Radiation City has an unusual sound, to say the least. The RecordBar in Kansas City can feature some pretty diverse lineups, but the booking agent there must know what he's doing because these lineups always work. Wednesday, the bar brought Ume, Fierce Bad Rabbit and Radiation City together for a genre-ranging show that carried the audience from gentle indie pop to blown out rock-and-roll. Eerie Body by Radiator Girls More Rainbows by Blackhawks Radiator Girls is actually just a guy...one guy, but he released a cassette split with Blackhawks in April from MJ MJ Records . 'Eerie Body' is by far the best Radiator Girls tune on the release and it starts out slow enough, but then kicks into a 50's surf bashing frenzy about him wanting a girl's body, but being afraid of it.
