8:04 am: In the car on the way to hit some balls , Dick Clark's "rewind" Top 40 is on the radio—the week of August 14, 1965. The Ventures' theme to Hawaii 5-0 is #6, followed by #5 Tom Jones' "What's New Pussycat?", #4 Herman's Hermits' "I am Henry the EighthI Am", #3 Gary Lewis and the Playboys' "Save Your Heart for Me", #2 the Rolling Stones "Satisfaction". I arrive to the courts before I hear what #1 is. The Rolling Stones: Satisfaction [...]

As another weekend approaches, so does another playlist. This week we've got lots to offer, including quite a few covers and emerging artists who struck us just right. If you missed our 'Mix For The Weekend VIII' you can still check it out here . You'll probably notice first Mumford and Sons (terrible name if you ask me), covers White Lie's "Unfinished Business". Unfortunately the English indie rock band, White Lies's, new album Ritual didn't completely stick to us this time around. So here's a good look back. [...]

You can get a fuller rundown of everything I acquired in January , February , and March , but today I'm just giving you a mix of my favorite new-to-me acquisitions of the year so far. Disappears: Lux I bought both Disappears albums within a few weeks of each other, so in some ways they both blend together. Despite the wondrousness that is Guider 's closer, "Revisiting," it's last year's Lux that is the overall better record. You can't really go wrong with either but Lux is [...]
We have an obsession with creating playlist mixes that feature great songs about a specific subject, theme or other categorization. Over many years, we've amassed hundreds of these playlists, and update them regularly. Sunday is the day we take off from putting out new music in order to bring you all another one of our [...] Read more, get songs or stream the entire mix on Indie Rock Cafe

Tomorrow night, The Radio Dept. will be playing at la Flèche d'Or in Paris and it's obviously sold-out. We love their latest album "Clinging To A Scheme" out last year and we're super excited to see them live tomorrow. We have 3x2 tickets to win, yeah, it's the last ones so be quick!

More retrospective than hits collection, Passive Aggressive offers a nuanced examination of The Radio Dept. in all their complexity. With a generous helping of b-sides and rarities, the anthology should appeal to devoted fans while providing a solid introduction to one of the more underrated bands of the last decade. Reminds us of : Stars | My Bloody Valentine | The Cure The Radio Dept. : ( Label | Myspace )
Pitchfork gives high marks to The Radio Dept. 's singles collection "Passive aggressive" , though I'm not so sure about them ever being regarded as underdogs: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/a lbums/15035-passive-aggressive -singles-2002-2010/

Steve Gullick So good times, my laptop died last night after 3.5 years of service due to a failed hard drive. I had planned on replacing it this year anyways, but hoped to squeeze a little more out of it - like a week. Fittingly, it died just as I was looking at the new upgraded Macbook Pros on the Apple site so... yeah. Anyways. Just some stuff from the old world to clear out before the weekend, so... Beady Eye . Their debut Different Gear, [...]

As usual, the Coachella lineup is filled with heavy-hitters. Looking past big names like Kanye West, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Interpol, The Black Keys, Bright Eyes, Animal Collective, and Kings of Leon can be pretty hard. But if you look a little deeper, past the marquee names, that's where the true gold lies. The mid-tier and small-tier acts are second to none, and that's what makes this year's Coachella great. Among those smaller names you may not have caught while being starstruck by Yeezy are Swedish indie pop legends The Radio Dept . For those [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , New Music , New Releases Chromewaves Considering Sweden basically breeds pop acts, it's no surprise that the Radio Dept. have categorized themselves as a pop band since their formation in 2001. Avid supporters of pop music, the three-piece from Lund have remained fiercely aligned with the genre they consider an art form. "The reason why people call us a pop band is [because] we do [...]
