If you don't want to go all the way out to Long Island and spend 200 dollars in the process to see soulful R&B ( Jill Scott at Jones Beach ), you can get your fix for free right here in NYC. As mentioned in What's Going on Thursday , Chrisette Michele (who Jill Scott has interviewed ) plays a free show tonight (7/28) in Springfield Park . For some more venerable musicians, who may have very well influenced artists like [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive Sophie Howarth | Felix Kunze, Redferns It's been 17 years since Tori Amos made the first ceremonial phone call to the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network's (RAINN) Sexual Assault Hotline, using her high profile to bring much-needed attention to this shockingly common yet sadly secretive issue. But the singer also acknowledged her own pain in the song ' Silent All These Years ' in hopes of inspiring others. [...]
![EELS, FUCKED UP, AVI BUFFALO [SUGGESTED NYC CONCERTS]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3596453_lg.jpg)
Now that last week's sweltering heat is out of the way, it's time to venture out of the AC and get your music fix. It's a solid week of indie music here in New York City with Fucked Up , Mountain Man , Eels , and Gang Gang Dance in town, but the show that stands out most to me is Avi Buffalo and Nik Freitas at Rock Shop in Brooklyn. These acts are both fantastic and the venue is tiny. Enjoy a another fantastic week [...]
Tweet You haven't heard from me about the band in Heaven for nigh-on nine months now, and you might not have even heard about them at all, so for those of you who fall int that category here's what you need to know. A duo from Florida, they use their craft to bundle up snappy and harmonious firecrackers that sound as though they're being let loose via burning amps. If that sounds like your bag then check out my intro piece [...]

courtesy of deleon tequila Madeline Follin & Brian Oblivion Of Cults A movement towards a time in music when faking it wasn't possible. The youth now disenchanted with the disposable age of hip hop, rap and pop are looking for song writers born of anything but American television contests. Musical preachers of the past growing their hair out, actually playing their instruments, writing their songs, and leading the fringe back to flower power. [...]

1234 It was barely over a week ago that I broke my Hyde Park duck with an Arcade Fire fronted festival. Lost in a sea of sixty thousand I won't be rushing back to repeat that evening of corporate whoredom… Today's event couldn't be worse than that, surely? Thankfully, the answer is a definite no. Shoreditch Park is in the East End, on the edge of not only the City's banking home but also, [...]

It's 4:30AM, I haven't slept in at least 20 hours and I'm about to catch a red eye to the Dominican Republic to DJ this evening at a spot called Fellini - live fast, die old. I got my little brother with me and we're doing it up, come party if you're on island. I'm trying to create a little calm before the storm so I've been repeating one of my favorite Raveonettes tracks, Forget That Your Young . I heard this song on the radio while I was in Vegas after a very long night and it [...]

Roskilde - One of Europe's largest music festivals, the Roskilde Festival is also one of it's most diverse, featuring everything from traditional African music to old school death metal. While it is perhaps most notorious for the deaths of nine fans during a 2000 Pearl Jam performance, it is probably better known amongst the people of Denmark and Europeans in general as having a solid lineup of music over it's four days. While this festival was originally my consolation prize for not getting tickets to the sold out Glastonbury Festival, it turned out to be just as impressive [...]
The sun has its hat on. Blue skies stretch over us this morning and you don't need to tell the Danes twice to get their legs out. Suddenly it's summer everywhere. It's a strange cocktail that opens up the morning, but a perfect one for anyone with day two tent sweat and maybe a small sore head. Conor Oberst's Bright Eyes are opening the Arena tent and the band are going at it full tilt from the off. It's a big sound, with a great horn section and Oberst absolutely magnetic at the front. Whatever he's got, you [...]

Yes; I know this is a re-post of a re-post . And yes! I do realize that this by no means is a happy song. Still makes my day every time I hear it... + The Last Dance
