To assure complete fairness and anonymity, we had a random drunken slam-dancer from last night's Nails/Ceremony show choose the winning entry to our free ticket giveaway. And the winner is... the mysterious Mme. V, whose choice of "1620 Echles St" moved the heartstrings of our judge. For those who didn't win-never fear! Tickets are affordable and still available. Memphis smoke, Jay Reatard, just got a posthumous delux reissue of first LP Teenage Hate and to sweeten the sauce it includes rare, early cassette goodies and even a bonus self-conducted iview..Jay on Jay haha! The man was a pioneer and will be missed! Reatards , Teenage Hate + Fuck Elvis Here's the Reatards , Now via Goner Reatards - You Build Me Up Just to Bust Me Back Down Previously - "New Garage Explosion"
I'll be honest, before listening to the 1998 re-issue of The Reatard's debut Teenage Hate , I had never heard of Jay Retard, who is front man and main rocker of the band, much less of his recent passing in 2010 (which was investigated as homicide case). In fact my ears are best kept away from the fury that boils in pimples of suburban teenagers. None the less, this Memphis punker had quite the career, signing at the tender age of fifteen and hitting his first tour abroad at eighteen. And from the very beginning his don't-give-a-fuck mind combined [...]
2009 was a banner year for Jay Reatard . He released his second studio album (and first for Matador Records), Watch Me Fall , to stellar reviews. He toured the world over, including high profile opening gigs for the Pixies. He seemed to be primed for his big breakout. Then, suddenly, he died in his sleep on January 13 th , 2010 – sending shockwaves through the music community. Rewind back to 1997. Reatard, inspired by fellow Memphis rockers Oblivians, took up a stage name and started the Reatards. He attracted the local music [...]

The world of music lost a bright mind today, p4k has confirmed that the incredibly prolific musician Jay Reatard has died in his sleep. Jay came up in the Memphis punk scene in the mid-90s and continued until present day, growing considerably through his last solo effort Watch Me Fall . Its a grim day for us over at WTD as we had the honor of presenting Jays most recent Dallas show and enjoyed his most unique set. We've scrounged together a few songs from the deep catalogue Jay Reatard compiled over his career, consider it [...]
Jay Reatard was found dead last night. Dude was only 29 years old and so far no one seems to know how he died. The rumors started earlier today on Twitter and then Goner Records confirmed that Jay was in fact dead. Although I know there are still quite a few people out there that are convinced this is some kind of hoax involving the recent beef with Liquor Store. However, it appears that the cops
Jay Reatard rolls through town with Anders Thode and Jacob Elving from Danish punk band Cola Freaks manning the bass and drums

When I first heard the name Jay Reatard I: a) didn't catch the first "a" in his last name, and b) thought he was some semi-obscure punk artist from the '70s known only within circles of dweeby vinyl collectors who don't listen to anything released after 1983. When I discovered he was a young kid from Memphis, I was a little disappointed. Then I listened ... Jay Reatard (born Jay Lindsey in 1980) might as well have been part of the blank generation. He's an old soul for sure. Reatard's music is sort of that sloppy [...]
Jay Reatard talks about Atlanta, writing songs and his upcoming third full-length, Watch Me Fall.

I was scratching my just yesterday wondering where this track in my iTunes library, Box Elders - "Hole In My Head," came from- then today, out of the blue, another copy of the track shows up in my email inbox. Okay, universe, I can take a cosmic hint, enough already. ::: Box Elders - "Hole In My Head" ::: Let's get straight to the point- Box Elders : from Omaha, Nebraska. Short, hooky, garagey (they call it "cave pop") tunes. Jay Reatard and Gerard C. [...]

Samedi matin.

(This originally appeared in Skyscraper ) The only overtly southern aspect to the person that is Jay Reatard, over the phone at-least, is the way in which he pronounces New Orleans. On the tongue of Southerners, it becomes one, lackadaisical, charming word and concept. In the name of this one city is intoned decades of a lifestyle that are as distinct as any other culture in the country. To hear the "Night of Broken Glass" record from Reatard, one gets the impression that he might not consider himself a [...]
I've finally got a break and discovered some interesting new (and old) tracks and bands. However, they will all have to wait due to this morning's visit to Pitchfork. Hosted on the site, a one-on-one interview with our stage diving/punching/kicking idol, Jay Reatard. Jay talks about his first steps, how he got into the Reatard name, how he composes his tracks and his declaration of music swift

"True to the title, these 22 songs were recorded between 1996 and 1999 in the bedrooms of the Reatards' co-leaders, singer/guitarist Jay Lindsey and drummer Ryan "Elvis" Wong. The pair were between the ages of 16 and 19 at the time, and considering some of the things teenage boys get up to in the privacy of their bedrooms, it shouldn't be surprising that the songs are uniformly scabrous punk rock with gleefully vulgar and spite-filled lyrics, occasionally leavened by some Queers-style goofball humor (titles like "Dildo Darlin'" and "Chuck Taylor Allstars Blues" should give you some idea) and hints of [...]
