Student grades are due tomorrow, but we went to church anyway - we had to sing, and anyway, after two years of semi-regular practice as a Unitarian Universalist, I have come to a place in my life where I find peace and solace in shared practice which starts and ends with love and service, togetherness and open-ended truths, and a shared commitment to social justice. Much of this is due to the particulars of our chosen worship setting. The UU church which we attend is in transition, with an interim minister who has my [...]
We've got a bumper load of GWAR photos from Download Festival because our photographer Gary Wolstenholme got COVERED in red paint. It's only fair.

Hectic doesn't begin to describe my life these days. Two weeks away from curtain in our local production of Alice In Wonderland, with a title role in The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe waiting in the wings, my brain swims with characterizations, half-learned lines and dance moves. Adorning yourself with kimono costumes, capes from sci-fi movies, and recognizable Nazi propaganda is certainly one way to distinguish a stage presence. Though The Red Paintings are active participants in such methods, they hardly have a need for such superficial props. Their powerful sound does them more than enough justice. After waddling around for several years in trying to get the word out on their unique band, a break finally came last year for The Red Paintings when the punk-cabaret duo, The Dresden Dolls, became so impressed with the five-piece's initial output that they offered them a spot [...]

Aaaanyhow, all of today's selections came to me courtesy of my free eMusic.com trial. eMusic truly is a treasure trove of independent tribute albums and individual covers. That you can search by track titles helps a lot. I spared you the a capella results. Because I care. Dipstick vs. Barbara Manning "These Days" [...]
