Richie Egan stands prudently behind this Irish indie band, Jape . A couple months ago, we featured "The Oldest Mind" as a single from his album, Ocean of Frequency (Fourth album and labeled with Music/Is/For/Losers) . Since the album was recently released, Richie has been traveling the world and implanting his folky trances into our souls. Unfortunately, I missed my opportunity to see Jape perform at CMJ but he generously answered a few questions via emailing. Listen to his newest single from Ocean of Frequency, a [...]

This calls for a celebration. Richie Egan is back, even though he never really left. A member of The Redneck Manifesto , he certainly cannot be accused of resting on his laurels. Even though his band released their first album in six years last year (the excellent 'Friendship'), Egan is still firing on all cylinders and has now properly made his return as Jape . 'The Oldest Mind' , which is available for free, is the first proper taste of his fourth album 'Ocean of Frequency', out October 3rd, and is [...]
Listen to a brand new studio song from Jape, ahead of the band's fourth album.

The Richter Collective are putting all the label's albums online so they can be streamed in full.
Part two of my best albums of 2010 counts down numbers 75 to 51.

A Redneck Manifesto hometown Dublin show is always greeted with an air of gratitude. For the band are revered amongst their peers in the Dublin music scene as well as their loyal following. With the band members scattered around the world, Redneck gigs can be rare occasions after all. Earlier this year, the band released their fourth album Friendship and quietly re-asserted their dominance over the array of post-rock and instrumental bands they inspired in their wake. Friendship not only re-established the band as one of the best [...]
So Robyn thinks she is being productive releasing three albums in one year? Maybe she should take a look at Richie Egan's schedule. He has already released one acclaimed album this year, in the shape of Redneck Manifesto's Friendship, and he has been recording his new solo album, the follow [Read more]

Not only are we giving you a lady-centric mixtape today, but we're also offering a label sampler from Ireland's finest independent label at the moment. The Richter Collective formed when two independent labels (Armed Ambitions & Popular Records) came together after a series of split label releases. The label is owned and operated by Michael Roe and Barry Lennon, two young veterans of the Irish DIY scene, one a drummer for Adebisi Shank, the other the singer (more agitated punk poet really) with Hands up Who wants to Die. [...]

Here's another gem from Ireland. Jape was formed in 2003 as a side project by Richie Egan while playing in The Redneck Manifesto (really sweet experimental rock band). They've made some noise since then, winning the Choice Music Prize for Irish Album of the Year 2008 with Ritual. Richie's headin' to the studio in June, [...]
