Ne-Yo – "Lazy Love"

The frantic intro to Ne-Yo's single "Lazy Love" is reminiscent of a hair metal song; heavy & intense. But, just when you think the track is headed through the roof, [...]

On May 20th at 7pm I'll visit the online radio station 40FootHoleStudio's show Ladies Night to play a couple of songs and talk about my tour. It's a show about female artists and their music (men are also welcome to listen though). The show is aired every Sunday at 7pm EST . / 12am UK time and can be heard in 30 countries. RVA Magazine hearts Sofia Talvik

RVA Magazine hearts Sofia Talvik RVA Magazine in Richmond did this nice write up about my gig there last week. The gig was put together by the guys behind Radio Rubber Room so that made the gig extra great! I hope I get to come back to Richmond, VA for some more gigs in the future! Despite being a solo act, Talvik's technical assistant/husband worked wonders for her already perfected sound, providing well-placed vocal harmonies, doublings, and effects. Sofia Talvik is absolutely freaking gorgeous, and her charming [...]

GoldFlakePaint meets… // Blood Red Shoes

GoldFlakePaint meets… // Blood Red Shoes Interview by Abi Ward Introduction by Tom Johnson When they first burst onto the indie-rock scene back in 2008, Brighton-duo Blood Red Shoes were like a breath of fresh air. There didn't seem to be any pretentious posturing involved, no pandering to a scene, just the seemingly-simple ability to make balls out, slap-around-the-face rock music. Debut album Box Of Secrets sounds as brilliantly devilish now as it did at the time and the band followed it up with the more expansive but equally-impressive Fire Like [...]

The rat in the RV

The rat in the RV Our cosy bedroom You know the rat in the pizza myth. So there's a couple of misperceptions about our tour and the RV, and some of them are so reaccuring that I felt I had to write a little post about it. Everyone's been really sweet and I know they all mean well and just don't know better but here's the most common things people think/ask/tell us about our tour and the RV. It always makes me smile "You can stay in our guest room and have a good [...]

Dreaming in Holly Springs

Dreaming in Holly Springs Sofia Talvik live in Holly Springs Last night I had the great experience to play at the Holly Springs Cultural Center. I was invited by The Swedish Consulate of Raleigh, SACC and SWEA and the night was a total hit. Holly Springs Cultural Center is a beautiful building and it's always a treat to get to play in a theatre environment, built for performances. (Check out all the pictures from the concert here ) After the gig the local restaurant My Way Tavern treated us to a great dinner [...]

Swedish filmjölk in Houston

Swedish filmjölk in Houston I was planning on making a post sxsw post here on my blog but I've just been so busy I haven't gotten around to it. We did eight shows at sxsw this year and getting to all the shows proved to be the hardest part. We hitch hiked, took the bus (if it came one) and managed to "catch a Chevy". Forget about taxis.. Last day both me and Jonas bought some really cool boots. I got a pair that was exactly like my old pair but in a different color and had my old boots repaired for [...]

DJ Football (soccer) game auction for (RED): own the ball, signed jerseys, or cleats

DJ Football (soccer) game auction for (RED): own the ball, signed jerseys, or cleats Though the DJ Football (soccer) Game was a whole lot of fun , it was also held for a good cause. Memorabilia from the game is up for auction on CharityBuzz, and you could own one of the most unique pieces of sporting / EDM memorabilia out there if you're willing to big high enough. In addition to signed jerseys form the game (including a team Sweden and team Netherlands one), you could also own the game ball or a pair of your favorite DJ's cleats. All proceeds from the auctions go to (RED), so hopefully there's a good bit [...]

Watch What Went Down At the DJ Soccer Games!

Tiësto's Team Netherlands v. Sebastian Ingrosso's Team Sweden for the first ever DJ Football Games
The Swedes and the Dutch kicked off the Miami season in style as Tiësto's Team Netherlands competed on the pitch against Sebastian Ingrosso's Team Sweden. The Dutch triumphed in the end (what DOESN'T Tiësto win...) but as the video showed, the Dutch team of Sunnery James, Ryan Marciano, Nick Romero, Sidney Samson, Afrojack and Quintino had a great time playing against the Swedish team composed of Alesso, Adrian Lux, AN21, Otto Knows and Dada Life. Adidas outfitted the players, and their uniforms are now up for auction at Charitybuzz.com/RED. All proceeds will go [...]

Lost In the Trees – A Church That Fits Our Needs ALBUM REVIEW

Lost In the Trees – A Church That Fits Our Needs ALBUM REVIEW Lost in the Trees tells a gut-wrenchingly beautiful story in their third album A Church That Fits Our Needs. Ari Picker's distinctive voice floats through stanzas of ambitious poetry as the gentle harmonies and powerful instrumentals add emotion to the story. Stanzas become days, days become chapters, chapters become a novel most people would let collect dust in a closet, but Picker flaunts it. Exposing pages of death, cancer, and suicide as a bittersweet work of art, leaving listeners fulfilled yet asking for more. By the fourth track it becomes clear how awe-inspiring all these instruments playing [...]

Lost In The Trees – "Red"

Lost In The Trees – "Red" Somehow I completely missed that there's new album out from Lost In The Trees called A Church That Fits Our Needs . I'm not sure how this one snuck under my nose unnoticed but I'll assume that this means it got by some of you as well. It's no secret by now that Ari Picker didn't exactly grow up in a loving environment and that he uses his music to exercise those demons. During the release of the band's debut album All Alone In An Empty House , Ari's mother took her own [...]

We have new offerings from Blood Red Shoes ahead of their third LP due out next week, another stunner from Breton - who have made one of the best albums you'll hear all year - and a live video from Abbey Road featuring the brilliant We Are Augustines . We also have videos from The Shutes who release an EP [...]

VIDEO: Red Pill – Something Like 50 Years prod. Hir-O

VIDEO: Red Pill – Something Like 50 Years prod. Hir-O CLICK IMAGE TO VIEW VIDEO Okay, this has to be heard. Like legit this is really really good. Hir-O is on the beat, a dope dope melodic flip (of what I assume is part of the Inception soundtrack) and then Red Pill comes in spitting Fire and Flames, this is just hella dope, and then there's the ultra sharp visuals that create a feeling of dystopia and exile, just what this track is kinda about, I mean, this is one of the favourite things I've posted on here for sure. These two Detroit natives been slept [...]

Ripping off artists

I just got contacted through my Sonic bids EPK by an organization called Bands With A Mission. They took on a personal approach by mentioning one of my songs, but I've gotten these kinds of emails before and soon got suspicious of their motive. After doing some research online I found this blog: http://samsongs.wordpress.com/ 2009/07/31/band-with-a-mission -not-a-chance / which confirmed all my suspicions. I think it's so mean when people try to profit on struggling bands and artists. It's like this online magazine called indie music reviews that I sent my album to for a review a [...]

Introducing // Vinyl Jacket

Introducing // Vinyl Jacket Hailing from a small village in Northumberland, Vinyl Jacket are a five-piece who make electro-indie in the vein of Everything Everything who, coincidentally, have remixed the bands latest single Red Light. The band released a self-titled EP back in 2010 but it was their debut single proper that they released last year which thrust them further into the limelight; Painting Stations ) received airplay from Chris Moyles, Huw Stephens (who made is his track of the week), Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne, Tom Robinson and Capital FM as well as a 'New Blood' feature in Artrocker Magazine. Lost in the Trees - A Church That Fits Our Needs

Lost in the Trees - Second album of opulent chamber pop with a classicly progressive touch from the North Carolina orchestral outfit led by singer, songwriter, composer and arranger Ari Picker is Ambitious with a capital A -- and easily one of the finest albums of 2012...written by Picker as tribute to his mother who took her own life in 2009 amid the release of the Trees' debut All Alone In An Empty House , the new songs are a testament to love and loss, grief and redemption, all intensely emotional and [...]

Umphrey's Debuts Two Classic Rock Covers in Midwest Prog-jammers Umphrey's McGee's first tour of 2012 reached the Midwest this weekend for performances at the LC Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio on Friday and at The Fillmore in Detroit last night. At each show the band unveiled a new classic rock cover that they had never played before - the Blue Oyster Cult 1981 hit Burnin' For You in Columbus and the fitting Detroit Rock City by KISS in Motown. [via Justin Wendt of Oh Kee Pah Blog ] Friday night's performance also featured the first UM [...]

In love with Alabama

In love with Alabama Sofia Talvik live at The Bama Theatre At first it seemed like a real challenge to book gigs in Alabama and Mississippi, and some people actually told us we would probably be better off skipping them altogether. Well, let me tell you I'm pretty happy we ignored that advice. If I haven't played the best venues there is in Alabama, I think my head is going to explode because the places I've played here have been some of the best gigs on my tour so far. In beautiful Birmingham I was invited to play Moonlight on [...]
