With every band from Burzum to Blind Guardian indulging in overt Tolkien-worship, and given that if you had a pound for every time you listened to a metal song inspired by HP Lovecraft you could afford to run a Premier League football club as a plaything, we thought we'd compile one of our totally (not) comprehensive Top 6s on the most metal fantasy novels. This one may contain goblins. -- 6) Raymond E Feist – Magician [...]

I just wanted to take this chance to say thank you to all my readers. I know I've been a little negligent as of late. Things have been busy, to say the least. But I'm making an earnest attempt to keep it up. So Thank you! Listen to The Redwalls - " Thank You " Listen to Gotye - " Thanks for Your Time " (a satirical thank you on behalf of Australia's Wally DeBacker)
In the lil' rock 'n roll ditty "Modern Diet" offa the The Redwalls most recent self-titled release, the bands lead moptoppin' songsmith, Logan Baren cries "They say it's all been done before." Indeed patients, the Chicago-based quartet woulda fit right in with the Merseybeat. Their cross pollinated electricity sound similarily like a pack of British invaders back on the sixties AM dial. Their lo-fi tunes have dashes 'n tinges of the Beatles, Kinks, Zombies, Stones and Faces-a band that is not afraid to wear their influences on the sleeves of their mod suits. In 2003, the band signed to Capitol [...]

Barely into their mid-20s, local suburbanites The Redwalls have already released three albums, something that a lot of bands don't even do in their entire career. Comprised of brothers Logan and Justin Baren and two other members, the guys started the band before they were even out of high school. In 2003, they released their debut, Universal Blues , a melange of Beatles classic rock, blues and alt-country. After releasing the successful De Nova in 2005, they were dropped from Capitol Records. The Redwalls returned last year with their critically acclaimed [...]

It's almost the weekend and May has started. It's time to get to some shows. WXPN is having a little CD release party for its latest XPN Local volume. Doors open at 6 and the music starts at 7. Its an all local show (as you probably figured) featuring great acts from around the Philly region. Most notably, Bucks county natives Illinois and singer-songwriter extraordinaire Peasant are on the bill. This event is free, but you must sign up at [...]

I know it's been said, but it's becoming harder and harder for artists to get heard through the traditional medium (radio). Over the past few years we've seen some bands strike gold after they've had a song featured on prime-time dramas like Grey's Anatomy and ER. Commercials seem to be helping bands nearly as much these days. This week's Six Pack focuses on a few of the songs that I've been humming along to during the breaks. Enjoy! [...]

The Redwalls are coming to town on Sunday and I must say, I'm nearly shitting myself in anticipation. I haven't been to many live shows in the past year or so, hopefully this will get me back into the routine. I picked up their new(est) album today. If you haven't heard it yet I highly recommend checking it out. A little more lo-fi then their last record. Here's some tracks: [mp3] Hangman [...]
