photo by Caitlin Mirete We've got a sweet list of shows this week, just in time for Valentine's Day. First, Gary Clark Jr. brings his smooth Austin sounds to a sold-out Crocodile tonight. On Tuesday, you can take your valentine to a great show at Neptune Theatre with Dr. Dog . On Thursday, the highly anticipated (and sold out!) Little Big Show is at the Neptune with local favorites Pickwick and Fly Moon Royalty , and the Constant Lovers are at Comet Tavern with guests Blood Orange Paradise, Baltic Cousins, [...]
Jay Electronica Crowd ::: Photo by Abbey Simmons Day two of Bumbershoot was all about dualities for us. We bounced back and forth between impassioned sets from folk troubadours such as Billy Bragg, Dave Bazan and Horse Feathers and hip hop sets from Fresh Espresso and Jay Electronica that brought some serious swagger to the [...]

Even though I'm from Vancouver BC - a mere two-hour drive away - I'd never been to Seattle's famous Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival before. With the Labor Day weekend institution reaching its 40th year though, I jumped at the chance to cover this eclectic city festival for Consequence of Sound . Yes, it was going to be a challenge - after all, I was covering (and photographing) the concert all by myself and with three full-days and almost 200 shows to choose from, I had my work cut out for me. Luckily, Bumbershoot ended [...]
Redwood Plan ::: photo by Josh Lovseth "God, won't you just die already?" - A line of dialogue that exists in approximately 72% of all action movies. I said the same thing when I saw who the headliners were for Day Two of Bumbershoot 2010. Hole? Weezer? This would have been amazing back in 1994. Actually, I [...]
We here at Sound on the Sound tread on the side of extreme caution when it comes to sharing events at one of Seattle's many active DIY houses and venues, because we remember the consequences of loose lips and the anti-Stranger stencils that were spray-painted all over Capitol Hill. Plus, we still miss the sweaty [...]
Grand Hallway ::: Photo by Abbey Simmons By now it'd be easy to be over music festivals. The crush of inconsiderate people. Less than optimal sightlines. Overpriced beer. But when the festival is within walking distance, with some of our favorite businesses on the grounds, it's pretty hard to resist, or hate too much. Also, ignore [...]
Macklemore's Crowd ::: Photo by Josh Lovseth At this year's Block Party early arrivers will reap the rewards of good local music. Yesterday Macklemore worked the mainstage as only he can. He's got an uncanny ability to stir up the crowd that few others come close to. Today we've got Head and the Heart in the [...]
Seattle's neighborhood bash-cum-music festival, the Capitol Hill Block Party, has experienced quite a transformation over the past few years. Free until quite recently, ticket prices are still only $20 a day for three stages producing 12 hours a day of music. Not bad, right? This year's show is not my favorite lineup, though headliners like [Read Full Post...]
This was released on 6/2/2010 at 11:00 AM. There will be updates. The concert boasts "over 60 bands in 3 days" Friday: Saturday: Sunday: MGMT Yeasayer Holy Fuck Shabazz Palaces Bear In Heaven Head Like A Kite Macklemore Unnatural Helpers Jaguar Love Champagne Champagne Fences Chris Pureka Stay Hi Brothers [...]
A great line-up for a great cause. In our opinion, you couldn't ask for more. Each year you can count on Noise for the Needy delivering on both counts, in a festival that never lacks in talent or spirit. This year, with national acts like The Album Leaf, John Vanderslice and Horse Feathers as well as [...]

Before I even begin, let me just admit that all the hype about Reverb I've been posting on the site over the last couple of years has just been hearsay. I've never been to the Ballard Music Extravaganza, let alone witnessing anything to back my comparisons to Bumbershoot or Cap Hill Block Party. Given that the festival consists of all local bands spread over most of Ballard's best venues, I just guessed that it had to be phenominal. Turns out I'm a real good guesser. . So, I didn't get to see every one of [...]

The 2009 REVERBfest will take over Ballard on Sat Oct 3rd, filling 10 neighborhood venues (including 4 all-ages) many of which, like The Sunset and Hattie's Hat, are Ballard institutions while others, like the Salmon Bay Eagles Club and New York Fashion Academy are transforming themselves just for the event. The nice thing is that all of the venues are in the heart of old Ballard which makes it simple to hop from place to place and catch all your favorites. . Now, I know it's a pretty big claim, but I [...]

Ida Maria ::: Photo By Josh Sunday Night's two-band bill at the Crocodile was sponsored by the End 107.7 and titled "Are You On The List?" Apparently all you had to do email DJ harms to get on the list. Sweet. Lesli Wood's new band the Redwood Plan had the opening honors and they didn't waste the opportunity to pick up some new fans. Lesli was a natural front-woman behind the Les Paul for the now defunct Ms. Led, but now largely freed from guitar duty she positively bounces while handling the synth. [...]
The Redwood Plan's Lesli Wood is one of the coolest people in the universe - so it only makes sense that her new band (TRP) is cool as sh*t as well. Here's a photo from their recent Crocodile show - is she playing two instruments at once? Thanks to Amelia Gyde for adding this photo from the recent show to the Three Imaginary Girls Sparkly Indie Pop Flickr Pool! The Redwood Plan are playing tomorrow night (Friday) with Connecticut Four at the Boundary Bay Brewery in Bellingham (say that 5 times fast) and they'll be [...]
Wow there was a lot to choose from this weekend, including just hanging out in your friend's back yard pondering how to make it to all the shows happening this summer (yay warm weather tour season!). By the looks of Amelia Gyde's photos from Friday's Lonely Forest / New Faces show at Vera... that *might* have been the place to be Friday night. It also sounds like Bloc Party was stellar on Saturday night and last night, Redwood Plan tore it up at the Crocodile with Ida Maria. What did you see / do this weekend? [...]
Jesus Christ, there is a lot going on tonight. A lot. Glass Candy at Nectar, The Roots at the Paramount, Britney is in Tacoma. Yet, my recommendation is for Team Gina and The Redwood Plan at Chop Suey tonight. read more
Today's photo of the day is from last weekend's KEXP / Audioasis show at the Sunset. I'm sad I missed the Redwood Plan's set (I love what I've heard from that album!) - but thanks to Amelia Gydé for sharing some photos of the set with the TIG Sparkly Indie Pop Photo Pool! read more
he festive atmosphere of The High Dive seems like a wonderful place to reencounter the superb songwriting skills of The Walkabouts, under their pseudonym for this night. And now I realize that they're probably headlining, after Seeing Blind and the Randy Hicks Band, which means I can probably see Redwood Plan first and then head like hell over to Fremont to catch Drunken Soundtracks! read more
