Have you not heard about The Moth & The Mirror ? Well, if you haven't, but you follow Glaswegian bands, you have probably heard something from all the members participating in this super-group. There's members of Arab Strap , Reindeer Section , Admiral Follow and Frightened Rabbit. Should make for a pretty interesting combination, right? We've heard the band is going to release an album later in the year, but for now they're content to hold you over with this tune. It begins with Stacey Sievwright, wooing you with [...]
Tweet My good buddy Peenko from back home started his own record label earlier this year and one of the first releases on said label is a super-group of Scottish musicianship. Containing members from Frightened Rabbit , Arab Strap , The Reindeer Section, Admiral Fallow , and Smoke Jaguar, the band and label are getting ready to drop their debut album in October via Peenko's Olive Grove Records . As a lead single from an album of luminaries, it flits [...]

I've been quite lazy in my posting around here lately. I've been shooting down idea after idea in my head, until something magical just kinda fell into my lap. Before I just endlessly spill the details of my personal life, let me just get right into why I'm back and what I'm bringing with me. Last fall I had this idea of making weekly mix-CD's; some for myself and some for others, but at least one a week. The plan kinda fell through after only a month and a half, but I did get a great mix or two out [...]

As some of you may already know, Gary Lightbody, lead singer of Snow Patrol is working with a new band called Tired Pony to record a country-tinged album. He's roped in a fine selection of artists to work with him including R.E.M.'s guitarist Peter Buck, Iain Archer and his wife and singer Miriam Kaufman, Belle and Sebastian's drummer Richard Colburn. In a recent interview with Vic Galloway , Lightbody revealed that he had managed to rope in two more members whom he was very excited about, but didn't name them. One of which we now know to [...]
The Irish alternative outfit known as Snow Patrol has released five studio albums during its 15 year existence. And as we learned the from Foo Fighters , this is all that is needed to release a greatest hits album. On November 10th, the quintet of Gary Lightbody, Paul Wilson, Nathan Connolly, Jonny Quinn, and Tom Simpson will do just that when they unveil a two-disc compilation set titled Up To Now via Fiction / A&M . Included on the 30-song tracklisting will be a mix singles, cover versions, and rarities, highlighted by [...]
At just 27 Jenny Reeves can already be considered a veteran of the Scottish indie scene having performed with and/or contributed on recordings by the likes of The Reindeer Section, Idlewild, Snow Patrol and Arab Strap. With her quasi-solo project Strike The Colours she has allowed her multi-instrumental talents and marvellous voice to take centre [...]
After another year spent plying their trade in the enormo-domes and festivals of the world, Snow Patrol have announced their next step and it's a backwards one. The Snow Patrol Reworked tour will see the band look back at their early, pre-stardom days, including the Reindeer Section, in the company of other musicians (bringing the total on stage to sixteen) and special guests. The full dates are as follows: 8th November – Brighton Centre 20th November – Bristol Colston Hall 21st November – Newcastle City Hall 23rd & 24th [...]

Right I'm sleepy, got back home at half one last night after venturing over to the east coast to see the Frabbit , good it was too. Bob's promised me a review so I won't say anymore about it. Anyway, as usual before starting to do any work I cleared out my emails, spotted that Snow Patrol were touring. Clyde Auditorium, "fuck that", delete. Mentioned it to a work mate, so I went back and dug it out me trash, so glad I did as after re-reading the email I find out that they're going to be playing Reindeer [...]

Iain Archer is an artist from Bangor, Northern Ireland, who was once a secondary lyricist within the indie band Snow Patrol and is basking in the royalties coming from co-writing Leoan Lewis' massive hit 'Run'. However don't let that fact put you off because Iain's music is a million suns away from that of Snow Patrol! I think this is a great album. I can hear a worthy successor to Elliot Smith in the songs, melodies, tunings and lyrics. At 39 minutes in lenght and with 9 songs, 'To The Pine Roots' is a sweet delight of folky [...]

This mix will be a regular feature of the blog where I will be posting a mix of 7 mp3s with a common theme. It is copied from the sister blog mixtape4melfi.blogspot.com. [...]

I know there are a ton of folks who hate Valentine's day and rant and froth about how it's a crass commercialization of whatever and that you should love your special someone every day, and blah blah blah. Well, you know what, I love Emily to pieces every single day (even the bad ones), and I love her on Valentine's day too. I think that Valentine's day should be a day that you do something a little extra special. I mean, who doesn't like special stuff? You've got your anniversary, each other's birthdays, Christmas, [...]

Let me be honest with you: I think Valentine's Day is really gross. Maybe it's due to the fact that I don't think red and pink go together, maybe it's because it gives guys unwarranted pressure to be uber romantic (which ends up being extremely cheesy and therefore, gross) or maybe because it's a day that tends to divide instead of unite (e.g. the couples vs. the singles). Whatever it is, it's gross. But amidst the shenanigans that Valentine's Day brings, some good things arise, like chocolate and cookies and homemade valentines and cool mixes that people have [...]

Okay folks, here is your Sunday mix of music that you really just shouldn't miss out on. I mean seriously there are some people on this Earth which such audio deprivation it is borderline third world. Blur - " Good Song " (mp3) Summer Went Too Soon - " A Field " (mp3) The Reindeer Section - " Strike Me Down " (mp3) The Brunettes - " Loopy, Loopy Love " (mp3) Blitzen Trapper - " Sci-Fi Kid " (mp3) The Seahorses - " Movin' On " (mp3) [...]
Image: Threadless Decided to compile a mix for The Sunday Shuffle right after my last post since I won't have internet access till Monday night. Hopefully this will tide all of you over until then, plus these are easy to make since the tracks are just randomly chosen. If everything goes as planned, this should post itself on it's own. Never tried it before, but hope you all enjoy and i'll see you next week! The Radio Dept. | "It's Personal" [...]
To those of you who know of The Reindeer Section , remember a track called "Fire Bell" off Y'all Get Scared Now, Ya Hear ? I certainly do, though considering how short the track is, it was possibly my favorite off that album. Like i've said numerous times here before, years ago there was nothing more that would instantly grab my attention like a pretty, angelic female voice. I used take a lot of flack from friends for expressing my love for everything female singer/songwriters, but that's neither here nor there. Anyways, upon first hearing Jenny Reeve's [...]

Before today's great post, I want to remind you all-- especially those in the D.C. area --about the contests in swag corner . They're closing soon, so enter today. There will be several other CD give-aways in the next few weeks. I'm thinking of setting up a pay pal button to help me cover postage. If you all donate postage money, I'll give stuff away. If you don't, I won't. What do you all think? (Anybody reading this?) [...]

Sometimes it's nice to come back to music that's familiar to you. I've been listening to so much new music lately that I think i needed a nice break this weekend. So i decided to stay up all night and make a little mix, and as you can see it's very Britpop influenced. Eh, who am I kidding it's completely Britpop. There's stuff here from bands who aren't exactly british but I still consider it Britpop anyways. At one point this is all I would ever listen to, a [...]

I used take a lot of flack from friends for expressing my love for everything female singer/songwriters, but that's neither here nor there. Anyways, upon first hearing Jenny Reeve's soft [...]
