On the 4th of June, Arizonian rock and roll outfit The Maine will drop their highly anticipated fourth studio album, Forever Halloween. In light of the upcoming release, I recently got the chance to speak with drummer and founding member Pat Kirch about the album, their songwriting and recording process, and growing up with their fans. Pat also shared a pretty crazy tour story with us, check out the interview below! Hi there! First off, can you introduce yourself and tell us your role in the band? Hi, my name [...]
Given this is not the type of music I usually listen to, I was a bit hesitant about taking a listen to this Ryan Lane track. However, after a few days I have warmed to it, and now I kind of enjoy the delicate vocals floating over that beat. See what you think.

Titus Andronicus and The So So Glos: bringing back the dudes BY JORDAN MAINZER REWRITE BEGINNING. SEE EMAIL What's left to say about Titus Andronicus at this point? At least that's what I initially thought. I don't think it's an overstatement to say that the Glen Rock, New Jersey band’s show on May 4th with fellow Brooklyn DIY punks The So So Glos and Chicago-based but originally from Brooklyn band Sharpless (who sound like some sort of Thermals/Screaming Females hybrid and who [...]

The Replacements' ramshackle second album, Hootenanny , turns 30 this week, but it'll always sound like someone's 21st birthday. Sure, there's a tearjerker ("Within Your Reach"), a moment of morose introspection ("Willpower"), and a panicked near-instrumental ("Buck Hill"). But 1983 was a year when The 'Mats still reveled in smartassery. So we thought it was only appropriate that the record get its own drinking game. Take it somewhat in jest, as this thing could kill you, or force you to admit that you have a problem. Then again, the closing song is called "Treatment Bound". Bottoms up, tie one on, [...]
(Sevens, a recurring feature on Aquarium Drunkard, pays tribute to the art of the individual song.) In 1988 the Replacements headed to a studio in Woodstock, New York in an effort to record their follow up to Pleased to Meet Me. They enlisted Tony Berg as the producer and set to it. And although the [...]
A simmering new melding of Southern rock and R&B arrives with the new JJ Grey album, while the Replacements and Shuggie Otis - yeah, you read that right - return with their first new music in ages. Willie Nelson displays his utter command of the songbook era, issuing an album that recalls the glories of 19782s Stardust, even while mixing [...]

Paul Westerberg : Trumpet Clip [ purchase ] This was the second song that jumped into my head when I heard the theme. The Joni Mitchell song was the obvious choice, but once this song got in, I haven’t been able to get it out of my head for more than a week. Even after reading this article about getting rid of earworms . Paul Westerberg is a great songwriter, and his style has matured from his early days with The Replacements, but there is definitely a Westerberg [...]
The sweet spring air brings the sweet rock. Somehow, Westerberg and gang were never too addled to lace their meat n' potatoes rock n' roll with a swooning hook. Perfectly suited to bodies gathering motion and heat. It may be a truncated season, but I'll amble my way down the street with this tune in my head for as long as I can. The Replacements - Back To Back

To many Replacements fans there are two versions of the band. The early version of the band on Twin Tone Records and the later version of the band on Sire. Some fans love both versions...others abhor the major label version, calling the band sell-outs for cashing in. In there defense, even if the Twin Tone years were stronger creatively for the band, they were not very lucrative financially
The Replacements Songs for Slim Self Released/New West Records While fans have long clamored for a reunion from the surviving members of the Replacements - Paul Westerberg on vox and guitar, Tommy Stinson on bass, Slim Dunlap on guiatr, and Chris Mars on drums (original guitarist Bob Stinson passed away in 1995), their dreams were consistently quashed by either general disinterest on the parts of Westerberg and Mars, or the dreaded, previous commitments. Stinson, most famously, has been Guns 'N' Roses bassist since 1998 and has filled a similar role for [...]

>> It's no secret that Clicky Clicky (whose executive editor called 13th and Ellsworth home for a while back in the day) has a strong affinity for Philadelphia and its excellent, albeit often sadly uncelebrated, indie rock. In the midst of yet another strong wave of municipal all-stars -- led, in the nation's consciousness anyway, by Kurt Vile -- we were happy to hear a cracking new one from Philly indie trio Purling Hiss titled "Mercury Retrograde." Longtime fans know the act through its '70s-echoing, un-fi hard rock, including the brilliant "The Hoodoo," the subject of [...]

Before - Gordon Lightfoot After - The Replacements (Paul & Tommy) The Replacements version is available digitally today as part of the Songs For Slim project to raise money for medical costs for ex-Replacement, Slim Dunlap. Read all about & support it at Songs For Slim.

Latter day Replacements guitarist Slim Dunlap (who replaced original guitarist Bob Stinson in 1987) had a severe stroke a few months back, wreaking havoc on his finances, despite having insurance. So, core Replacements founders Paul Westerberg and Tommy Stinson decided to raise some cash for their old bandmate to soften the blow. A supremely limited edition 103 of 250 copies made up of newly recorded covers was auctioned off , raising over $105,000. The music is available to the general public today via Amazon MP3 , as well as all of the streaming services. [...]

It took a severe illness to get the remaining Replacements back together to record. The new EP, Songs For Slim , came together as a benefit for late-era 'Mats guitarist Slim Dunlap to help pay medical bills that have resulted from a stroke. To date the auction of limited edition EPs has raised more than $100,000. Now we get a wide-spread digital release to add to the coffers. While none of these songs are Replacements originals, Paul Westerberg , Tommy Stinson , and Chris Mars do put their [...]
