![MP3: The Rest - Wtih Every Heartbeat [Robyn cover]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2042286_lg.jpg)
Canadian bands tend to have this airy/chill factor that many American bands don't. Maybe it has something to do with the northern winds that cool the heat off our humid summer bodies as the autumn rolls on in. The Rest [from Ontario], are ready to unleash the breeze of winter onto our sweaty, lo-fi summer ears with a new LP entitled Everything All At Once . On another note, however, the band will also be releasing an EP that comes with an illustrated novel called The Cried Wolf Book . The first song, "With Every Heartbeat" [a [...]

It's another mailbag style post, but this is more because of the sheer amount of awesomeness that was sent our way over the last couple of days. Three artists we've covered a lot on the hill all hit us off with some news within 24 hours, so it makes sense to deliver the news to you good readers. First off, our good friend Michael – aka These Hands – is premiering his new LP exclusively on herohill. Home is Everywhere is a long time in the making, or [...]

There's a band that I would have written about earlier this year if I had been on top of my game, but introducing you to The Rest is certainly not too late. The Rest recently signed to UK's Something In Construction and Everyone All At Once will be released on October 10th (in the UK). For their US release, look them up on Auteur Recordings ' website. Also, the band is releasing Walk On Water [...]

A few weeks back, I had ordered a physical copy of Allegories' Surreal Auteur , one of my Top 40 of 2008 and an album I reviewed here , but by mistake, I was sent a copy of The Rest's sophomore album Everyone All At Once (The Rest is Allegories' Adam Bentley and Jordan Mitchell's other band with five additional members, including Anna Jarvis, Blake Bowman, Dwayne Brydon, Matty Buzanko and Steve Jones) and a limited, hand-crafted edition of their single Apples & Allergies. There couldn't have been a more fortuitous error. Everyone All At [...]
There's been a bevy of exciting, forthcoming London live dates announced recently - and here they are: Noah & The Whale Pioneers of graceful, gorgeous shoegaze epics that refuse to leave your aural memory, Noah & The Whale will be performing what sounds like a very special set at Pure Groove records with a "full string section" [...]
Photo by David Greenwald The 20 best albums of 2009's first six months, after the jump. Now with more Animal Collective (and, um, Mandy Moore)! 1. Harlem Shakes - Technicolor Health The year's best album comes from its most exuberant new band. Harlem Shakes are a love 'em or hate 'em type act - they're from Brooklyn (strike one), yelpy (strike two) and blend wiry guitar rock with the occasional Latin rhythm (colonialism! strike three). But unlike all most of their [...]
Oh, Canada. Oh, Monday Mail. What is Monday Mail? Back in May, Auteur Recordings wrote: As summer closes in, we here at Auteur Recordings are extremely proud to announce the sophomore release of Everyone All At Once by The Rest. This pride may or may not stem from us being members of The Rest, but understandably it's hard to differentiate between the two. Pride well-deserved, The Rest. The music is dramatic, with big builds and truly sincere vocals. Actually the vocals [...]
Starting off like a track from many other Canadian bands I instantly think "I like this" but then it goes all Beach Boys on us at the end and I don't know what to think any more. Do I like this, does it work with this extra part put on the end. After hearing it quite a few more times the parts merge, I no longer hear a change of direction after two minutes. Was it my ears deceiving me or am I just used to it. Either way I now longer see it as two separate parts, [...]
For new listeners, How did The Rest come to form? Most of us were friends in high school, where we had played in a bunch of forgettable bands together, but after our first year of post secondary we decided to give it another try, so we spent the summer making a new group. Six years [...]
Yesterday was the annual Hot 97 Summerjam at Giants Stadium. During his set, Young Jeezy bought out special guest Jay-Z who performed his new track D.O.A. . Jay was joined on stage by T-Pain of all people and had over 70,000 fans singing "na na na na heeey heey heeey goodbye" to the plug-in that was all over hip hop music in 2008. By midnight tomorrow night, I have to submit my top five albums from June 1, 2008 to May 31, 2009 to the good folks at running this year's Polaris Music Prize . When I was asked to participate as a juror for this year's award, I thought, "Hey, this'll be a snap!" What I didn't realize at the time was that my fingers wouldn't be doing the snapping, it would be my brain. Narrowing a list down to about 15 was easy, but culling the herd down to a mere five has proved to be [...]

i, at one time, wanted to start my own label, but i had to be honest with myself and admit that i dont have that kind of freakin time to dedicate to something like that. as much as i would love to venture into something like that, i just dont need another distraction that could lead to another mild obsession. i still may try to put out a few things here and there, but nothing like the scope that i would ideally like to get into. some of my fellow constituents have done just that, parlayed their respective [...]
Wednesday, May 27, 2009 Today's Quick Mention: As was the case with Animal Collective earlier this year, people are claiming that Grizzly Bear's new album is the greatest thing ever released in all of 2009 (even the parts that haven't happened yet). I'm not sure I see the big, jaw dropping deal (for either band's efforts, honestly), but what I've heard I've liked. Anyone want to send over all of Veckatimest? I'd like to see if it blows my mind too. Here's the second EP of the week. [...]

End of the month mentions for three bands featured on mojophenia recently. Apart from having cracking records to push forward and dealing with the usual time consuming online self promotion, these artists have been focused in getting the songs heard with an obscene amount of live shows. An impressive workload. Isle Of Thieves seem to covering most of Ontario during June/July, almost a form of Alt Rock carpet bombing from our Canadian cousins. The album `Only Human` is still fresh from the end of last year still getting some very generous radio airplay. [...]
