"I never had any friends later on like the ones I had when I was 12. Jesus, does anyone?" After writing my piece on Stephen King film adaptations, I happened upon one of my favourites, Stand By Me , on TV. The coming-of-age story about four young boys who go in search of a dead body is a film that has stood the test of time. It's about friendship, strained [...]
Good morning, friends! I'm back with a new haircut and a new attitude.

Actor River Phoenix died way too young, having had a heart attack at the age of 23. The film he was working on when he unexpectedly died, had been shelved, until now. In 1993, Phoenix along with co-stars Judy Davis and Jonathan Pryce had nearly wrapped filming on a thriller titled Dark Blood . Then the unexpected happened when it's star dropped dead of a drug related heart attack on Halloween night outside a Hollywood nightclub. [...]
Before he died, actor River Phoenix starred in a film called Dark Blood that was never finished or released. Well, director George Sluizer has finally taken the finished footage, re-cut the movie and believes with a little fudging it would be acceptable to release into theaters by 2012 . According to Wikipedia : "Phoenix played Boy, a youthful widower who lives as a hermit on a nuclear testing site, waiting for the end of the world while making dolls that he believes have magical powers. He comes to the aid [...]

Stand By Me is easily one of my favorite childhood movies and when push comes to shove, I'll easily include it on my list of top ten favorite movies. Wil Wheaton spoke with NPR's All Things Considered on the movie's 25th anniversary . Listen to the interview, it's pretty great. Tweet

Filed under: News , Video , New Music , Exclusive Gino DePinto, AOL At first glance, it might appear that Papercranes ' second album, 'Let's Make Babies in the Woods,' is merely an ode to a rather fun camping trip, but vocalist Rain Phoenix explains that it's a bit more philosophical than that. "A boy once said that to me, not someone I knew very well. It was just like [...]

Website MySpace mp3: The River Phoenix-5 Wheel [...]

The first rule of show and tell is that the second you're ready to show someone something that you've been talking about it NEVER works. That is essentially the story of today. If you remember yesterday, I went on about consistency and how I was going to do three posts this weekend. Well as fate would have it I woke up to absolutely NO Internet connectivity! This obviously made it difficult to uphold my promise. While I was frustrated I couldn't help but laugh. So here were are late Saturday night, with a post that should have been [...]

"The debut album `Ritual` was recorded in Stockholm with Pelle Gunnerfeldt (The Hives, Logh) over the space of two weeks. The likes of 'I'm USA You're Canada', '5 Wheel Drive' and '28-83-7' rise and fall with passionate, bombastic choruses and subtle, measured introspection, sketching out vast sonic patterns intricately weaved with swathes of lush guitar melodies". Instantly engaging Alt-Rock harmonies from Danish band `The River Phoenix`. An untainted and musically precise offering currently entertaining New York City, joining the list of major cities being charmed with a new wave of Scandinavian music. [...]
Okay, one last promo mp3 before Friday's Danish Dynamite showcase. The River Phoenix are a band that manages to transcend their abominable name to deliver solid emopop on this particular track, "5 wheel drive" . Nothing groundbreaking to be sure, but if you like soaring octave chords, heavy half-time choruses and earnest, keening vocals then these guys will surely satisfy. Sand off the dark edges from either Mew or Lapko and you get the picture. Not quite as sugary as Jimmy Eat World 's best material, but awfully close, so let's play [...]
Sure, this group of Danes may have a nominee for worst band name of recent record (cue the Wikipedia-band-naming game) and are sure playing a dicey game with respect to people maybe writing them off, but The River Phoenix have the advantage of pocketing an easily-identifiable pedigree, influences and referential points, not to mention a ton of what seems like really well-deserved hype about to come their way. It's fully guilt-free alternative pop tunes like this really make us remember how much fun we had collecting records in the mid-90s. The guys will be making appearances at this [...]
I believe that Joaquin Phoenix (pronouced Why Keen) was on the best drug binge of his career since the death of his brother River Phoenix. Why such atrocious harshness towards a young upstart like Joaquin?.......Well unless you've been living under a rock, he has announced his retirement from acting to focus on........his rap career! No shit, its true! In fact its been said that not only

I am not talking about a star you make a wish on. Joaquin Phoenix is worrying Hollywood as his appearance matches his bizarre behavior. After announcing his retirement from acting to purse a musical career, rumors that his substance and alcohol abuse reheated. He has battled with drugs and booze for years. Now fears for his health have also followed his obviously haggard state. The man looks the Unibomber with a penchant for hair accessories. [...]
