Do you work in the service industry? Tired of feeling like all of the fun stuff happens on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday while you are slaving away? Well, no longer! Dane101 is moving the weekend to Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. While all of the other schleps are going to bed early, you can be out with us having a grand 'ol time. This is what we have planned for you (special thanks to the WSJ Rhythm section and the Onion for all of the weekly pick love and thanks to Quixotic Goat for the poster to the left): [...]
Monday: The Robot Ate Me & Run Chico Run @ Piano's 8pm $8 If you're like me you totally slept on getting tickets to see Spoon knowing they'd be playing a free show in the city this summer. However, we still have to select a show for tonight so I'm going to pass on the recommendation of a few of my blogging cohorts to see this show at Piano's. From what I've heard The Robot Ate Me is a dude that performs with a dog's head on his head. Run Chico Run [...]

View original photo The Robot Ate Me is a man named Ryland. Apparently he wears a dog head everywhere. I'm down with that. Sure, why not? Check out the video for "Crispy Christian Tea Time." It's sort of awesome. The Robot Ate Me - "Djien" Kill Rock Starts / 5RC Catch The Robot Ate Me this Sunday (April 22nd) in Brooklyn at Union Pool with [...]

This is the best song you'll hear all week. Period. That used to be quite a boast but with the number of blogs and online/offline music possibilities it may not hold the same weight. Nonetheless this little gem from West Dakota's upcoming debut full length, Turn Around Leaders on Swim Slowly )(Doveman, The Robot Ate Me), hits all the right warbly high notes, strums just the right banjo chords, references the perfect number of mythical beasts, and namedrops the coolest philosophical theories ( deterministic vs. free will ). [...]
In the waning days and hours of Tower Records, the prices dropped so low that you felt a certain sadness for any artist whose discs were still left on the racks. Amid what seemed like thousands of Stadium Arcadium deluxe edition cubes and Captain & Tenille DVD gift sets were some fine discs already in the iff collection that we just couldn't bear to see homeless. MP3: The Robot Ate Me - On Vacation The Robot Ate Me is definitely one of the crazier live acts that I've seen since I started YANP. He's like avant pop or some equally ill-fitting label like that. Email land @ swimslowly.com if you're interested in filling in a TBA. The Robot Ate ...

Fear not my "I swear, I'm never drinking again" friends, after a much needed and very enjoyable holiday break things are going to start kicking back up. Now that the "end of the year limbo" period has come and gone, I'm glad that 2007 is here and am looking forward to a slam bangin' year. So start your hangover and the new year right with a mimosa - I sure as hell did. Bring it on 2007. [MP3] Jeremy Enigk - A New Beginning [...]
It's tradition for You Aint No Picasso to play yearly host to some wonderful mixes. Each one over the next 12 days is made by one of my favorite bands around some theme of their choosing. MP3: Oh No! Oh My! - Walk In The Park The first is from Daniel of ...
Flower power wunderkind, Dylan dissee in Don't Look Back, elder hippie: Donovan's got a pretty staggering catalogue of great tunes and is making a victory lap with a recent autobiography, box set, and a recently announced passel of US East coast November tour dates. Best clip on his website I've found so far is this 2005 performance on KFOG's morning show, where he humbly introduces one of his

My mind, my darlings, is still on vacation. I have a few posts worked out in my head, and you'll be hearing some Franklin Bruno, The Velvet Teen, Mission of Burma, Broken Social Scene, and much more in the near future. Once I stop being quite so lazy. For now, here are some vacation songs. Bjorn Berglund - telebot (2005) I am quite the robot these days, as are most people I run into. Yesterday, the study facility was visited by a couple of industrial painters (which is an exciting event when you're in seclusion). With perked ears in the direction of the strange stimulus, I overheard one say to the other, "We're going to die with paintbrushes in our hands if we don't win the lottery". The gracefullness of their [...]
Noi siamo i robot, ammettiamolo. Le nostre macchine ormai sono molto più umane di noi. Ah no? E allora perché il vostro ragazzo passa 12 ore davanti al monitor e mezz'ora a letto con voi? Ed è inutile che fate tanto le indignate lo sanno tutti che vendereste vostra madre per una mother board. Di seguito la nostra play feast oltre ogni ipocrisia Im A Robot - * the Electricity in Your House Wants To Sing My Robot Friend - * Why Won't You Call Me Back? The Robot Ate Me - * [...]

Imagining dust and ashes of someone gone is similar to the music I hear from Robot Ate me. It is like sad drum machines and intimate vocals, maybe some accordions. The vocals are clear yet the sounds are sometimes muted. This band falls along the lines of avant pop, electronic pop and something I found at a thrift store, like a little sad knitted doll in colors like an old 70s photograph. It sounds like a strange grey day where skeletons have picnics on the ashes of their former lives. With that introduction, Here is a little [...]
