All of those birthday's at Showbiz Pizza (or Chuck E. Cheese). They really were probably some of the most exciting moments when I was kid. Your birthday party was banging if you had it at Showbiz in the 80s. I can't tell you how many tokens I wasted on skee ball trying to win tickets for all of those shitty prizes. I had drawer's full of them. And those damn animitronic animals that were scary as hell, but you couldn't take your eyes off them. I can't tell you how many nightmares I had of [...]

QN5 Music is proud to present the music video for "RoxTar" from Kokayi's critically acclaimed new album, Robots & Dinosaurs. Directed by Donlee Brussel (who also directed Inverse's "So Far" video), "RoxTar" was shot on location in Orlando, FL and features an appearance by The Rock-afire Explosion band.

A while back we told you all about D.C.-based Kokayi and the Less Talk, More Walk credo that informed his newest release, Robots & Dinosaurs . Truth be told, we got a look at this Generation X-static video way back then, and have been pestering Kokayi's people to allow us to let the cat out of the proverbial bag for weeks. Finally, after swearing endless sacred oaths and signing all necessary forms in triplicate, MOKB is happy to share the flashback-inducing, Donlee Brussel-directed video for [...]

The Maybenauts | Photo Credit: Audrey Leon Annnnnnnnnnnd...it's the weekend! Plenty of shows this weekend including the Maybenauts at Quenchers , The Laureates at the Hideout and even a documentary about the Rock-afire Explosion , that animatronic band from Showbiz Pizza ?!?! Yep. But first, a reminder that Loud Loop Radio will be back on the air tomorrow, Saturday, February 27, at 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Radio DePaul . Lets get to it, shall we? [...]

Muchos de ustedes, como yo, habrán pasado tardes llenas de felicidad en algún Showbiz Pizza de la Ciudad de México, o de cualquier otra ciudad del mundo. Juegos, laberintos, música tocada por animales-robots y pizza. Those were the days.

Idolator's Andy Beta delves into the story behind the YouTube revival of the Rock-afire Explosion, the cuddly Showbiz Pizza robots who were retrofitted, long after their retirement, to play "Love In This Club" and other pop hits. [ Spin ]
First it was Usher's "In the Club" but now there is more goodness with the Rocka-Fire Explosion performing MGMT's "Electric Feel." The Rock-afire explosion is known to most as the animitronic band that was common place in the 1980's in Showbiz Pizza establishments around the U.S. It is coming upon things like this that makes me love the internet more than I loathe it... but just barely. But wait, there is more! The guy who is making these videos for YouTube has a documentary that details his obsession with these animitronic robots. Man [...]
The latest issue of SPIN has a fascinating - albeit too brief - story about Chris Thrash, an Alabama car salesman who tracked down and purchased an animatronic band of puppet animals that used to perform at his local Showbiz Pizza Place (that's Chuck E. Cheese's to us yankees) when he was a kid. He then took this band, The Rock-afire Explosion, and painstakingly reprogrammed them all in order for them to play along to a number of different contemporary songs, creating a YouTube sensation in the process. Now, a full-fledged documentary about the phenomenon, [...]
The latest issue of Spin features a really interesting read on what has become the cult phenomenon of The Rock-afire Explosion . If the name doesn't sound familiar, think back to the days of attending birthday parties at a place call ShowBiz Pizza. While you plunked quarters in arcade games and stuffed your face with pizza you more than likely were entranced by an animatronic band of animals that combined a corny stage show with playing rock music. While the chain is long gone, thanks to the effort of Chris Thrash [...]
We chat the guy who invented Wack-a-Mole and the Showbiz Pizza robots. Watch Fatz Geronimo, Billy Bob Brockali, and the gang cover some Arcade Fire!
Chris Thrash has an awesome job. With Rock-afire Explosion , he engineered those mechanical, possibly totally bionic, singing and playing animatronic stage animals for such fine dinner theater establishments as Chuck-E-Cheese and Showbiz Pizza. I was all about Showbiz. Actually, I still am. Now Chris has re-choreographed his creations to preform contemporary hits from some of today's most relevant artists. And there's a documentary coming out this fall about the history, trials, and tribulations of animatronics. Head. Trip. Totally amazing. A lil' bit of [...]
Holy crap, this is awesome. Trailer: Rock-afire Explosion- The MOVIE When MGMT put Billy Bob Brockali in their video for "Electric Feel" an entire generation of dudes in their thirties had a collective flashback to afternoons at Showbiz Pizza Place....
Or was it. I remember seeing those weird animatronic things playing chuck berry and slow jams, this is freakin me out. rockafire explosion , Video
