Presumably as a tribute to the first time London hosted the Olympics, it looks like the organisers are block booking acts who were around in 1908. Seriously, it's all about Ronnie Wood , Gordon reveals: RONNIE Wood could be at the Olympic site more often than Sir Chris Hoy this summer. The Rolling Stones guitarist has been asked to perform at both the opening and closing ceremonies – in different bands. Ronnie said: "We've got more meetings, everyone wants to do it. "I've been asked to do the opening ceremony with [...]
According to the New York Times -- and more specifically, to former Phoenix critic JON CARAMANICA -- that's affirmative. It's amusing to us that in 2012, anyone is still arguing about Bruce... Support indie media! Read the rest at thephoenix.com . . .

Filed under: News Mark Milan/FilmMagic The Rolling Stones have cycled through their fair share of axemen. However, if things had shaken out differently, their longest-serving guitarist-not-named-Keith might have been in Led Zeppelin . During an episode of his Absolute Radio show, Ronnie Wood revealed that he turned down an offer to join an early incarnation of Zep before hitching his wagon to the Stones.

Hidden Shoal Recordings is excited to announce the release of the new freely downloadable single 'Sea Years' by garage-dreampop trio The Caseworker , taken from their acclaimed 2011 album Letters From The Coast . 'Sea Years' is the follow-up to first single 'National Runner', showcasing another side to the band's trademark guitar surge. The song's insistent motorik beat, levitating guitar jangle and Eimer Devlin's gorgeous airy vocals create a very special blend of dreamy, hypnotic pop minimalism. Light as a feather yet crammed full of gutsy guitar sounds, 'Sea Years' is another earworm from [...]

Woah, St. Lucia crushed this remix of Foster the People's "Don't Stop." The track just premiered on Rolling Stone , and Jean of St. Lucia credited FTP for doing such a great job with the original, "that a completely different and more maximalized version needed to be explored". Heavy electric guitars now replace the boppy synths, and any 80's hair metal band would be proud.
Lana Del Rey will be putting off touring for the foreseeable future, presumably to sharpen up her performance skills in the wake of harsh criticism for her appearance on Saturday Night Live . According to the New York Post, the singer was set to announce a 30-date theater tour in support of her album Born to Die , but her tour managers, booking agents and the top brass at Interscope scrapped the plans, believing she was not ready to hit the road. http://www.rollingstone.com/mu sic/news/lana-del-rey-postpone s-tour-after-snl-debacle-20120 207 [...]

This latest video from The Roots has no connection to either their gig on Late Night or Undun , rather it is their rendition of "Ain't Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around". The track is off of the upcoming compilation Soundtrack to a Revolution . The album featuring various contemporary artists covering songs from the mid 20th century. Featuring a splicing of old black and white footage and The Roots recording the track, this is a great diversion from the usual path. Watch it here

Chuck Berry, still rockin' at age 85. Long past the half-century mark, rock and roll is now nearing senior citizen status. Yesterday we marked the 53rd anniversary of the deaths of Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Richie Valens, and we've had some tragic losses in the past couple weeks (Etta James, Johnny Otis, etc.). But one of our greatest original rockers is still with us - Chuck Berry, still rockin' (sometimes) at age 85. He has some health issues, but he apparently still performs at the Blueberry Hill restaurant in St. Louis, where [...]

Repost: Published in 2009, still of interest today. To this day, people still mourn the musical talent who died in a plane crash in the early morning hours of Feb. 3, 1959. A small airplane, carrying rock stars Buddy Holly, J. P. "The Big Bopper" Richardson and Ritchie Valens, crashed only minutes after taking off from Mason City, Iowa, in a snowstorm. The three had just played the "Winter Dance Party" (see yesterday's post ) and were heading to the next stop in [...]
On the heels of Jack White's new album announcement as well as the unveiling of Blunderbuss 's first single " Love Interruption ," we thought it was time to revisit the hits - not the literal ones , unfortunately - of White's wide-reaching, strange and prolific career so far. So, here's 13 of Jack White's most memorable collaborations. Sorry Bobby D . For once, you didn't make the cut. 13. Insane Clown Posse and JEFF The Brotherhood w/ Jack White Definitely one of the higher-ranking moments in Jack White's "WTF?" register, White [...]

The Rolling Stones have announced the second live archival release that will (eventually) be available through Stones Archive - a performance from December 18, 1981 at Hampton Coliseum in Hampton, Virginia. You can purchase the 26-track set through Android Market for $4.99 (320kbps MP3).
