Equal parts Beach Boys, Kinks and early Beatles, this band showed up as a welcome surprise in my inbox the other day. Rather than being some kind of obscure, British 60's Psych-Pop trio that I managed to miss all these years, The Rollo Treadway has been around since just 2006 and hail from NYC. Give any of the songs from their self-titled debut one listen though, and you'll see why they gave me pause. I want to do a Track Seven One Listen Review (tm) of this album, so let's see what deliciousness Track Seven brings [...]

Written by Fense With an emphasis on late 60s, early 70s pop influence, The Rollo Treadway 's self-titled debut follows a conceptual storyline - the kidnapping of two children. Rather than taking the dark route, it quickly becomes apparent that The Rollo Treadway is packed with upbeat pop gems like opener "Kidnapped" and its follower "Rua Gararu 1883. David Sandholm is the mastermind behind this eerie children's nightmarish tale. Though upbeat in nature, the darkness resides in the lyrics. Played out on [...]

Poster graphic designed by Sean Tice Tonight, Public Assembly in Brooklyn houses a few great local bands/musicians that are making it happen right now in the smaller clubs around NY. The Rollo Treadway make use of layered, psychedelic-vocal harmonies on top of catchy, single-note bass and guitar lines to create a 60s throwback sound. They still keeping an eye towards the modern indie-rock scene though. Keeping in the psych/indie mindset are headliners Cortez! Cortez!! We don't know much about these Philly folks, lead by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist [...]

666: The Coming of The New World Government The Funky Chamberlain (Who Begot Who) Apollo Sunshine's core members (Sam Cohen, Jesse Gallagher, and Jeremy Black) all met while attending Berklee College of Music and from the sound of their album, Shall Noise Upon, I believe it. Throughout the album, there is an underlying suggestion of massive technical and theoretical genius. Not only is there structured music theory, there is also an understanding of where their sound comes from. For instance, "666: The Coming of The New World Government" has hints [...]

Kidnapped Friday's Child If you were to open a music box, expecting to find a ballerina spinning to Mozart or Bach, but instead found the Beach Boys, tripping and playing the entirety of Pet Sounds, then that would be what The Rollo Treadway sounds like—but darker. Their first album, The Rollo Treadway, switches it up between the American West Coast '60s sound of the Beach Boys and the English Psychedelic '60s sound of the Strawberry Alarm Clock. In this case, however, the overuse of layered harmonies and intricate compositions comes [...]

Formed in 2006, The Rollo Treadway started as a two piece with David Sandholm and Blake Fleming (former drummer of The Mars Volta) and has expanded into a quintet with Tyler Wenzel on guitar and vocals, Jörg Krückel on organ, and Grant Zubritsky on bass and vocals. Although the Brooklyn-based band's brand of psychedelic pop is built upon the foundation of the Beach Boys and the Zombies, their sound is undeniably fresh. With The Rollo Treadway , Sandholm has crafted his own style—often combining dark lyrics with cheery music to create an [...]

Brooklyn's The Rollo Treadway is a very interesting band named after Buster Keaton's character in the 1924 movie "The Navigator". The band has released an amazing self-titled album, and I'm really impressed by their music and their concept every time I listen to them. Musically, they sound like a 60s pop band with psychedelic influences and probably also some modern equipment... Think Beach Boys, The Zombies, Byrds. Think vocal harmonies, organs, horns, jangly guitars and incedible melodies. Think clever and inventive production. Another thing we rarely see these days [...]
