Equal parts Beach Boys, Kinks and early Beatles, this band showed up as a welcome surprise in my inbox the other day. Rather than being some kind of obscure, British 60's Psych-Pop trio that I managed to miss all these years, The Rollo Treadway has been around since just 2006 and hail from NYC. Give any of the songs from their self-titled debut one listen though, and you'll see why they gave me pause. The Rollo Treadway make use of layered, psychedelic-vocal harmonies on top of catchy, single-note bass and guitar lines to create a 60s throwback sound. Brooklyn's The Rollo Treadway is a very interesting band named after Buster Keaton's character in the 1924 movie "The Navigator". The band has released an amazing self-titled album, and I'm really impressed by their music and their concept every time I listen to them. Musically, they sound like a 60s pop band with psychedelic influences and probably also some modern equipment... Think Beach Boys, The Zombies, Byrds. Think vocal harmonies, organs, horns, jangly guitars and incedible melodies. Think clever and inventive production. Another thing we rarely see these days [...]
