"No help topics found?! You heap of garbage. You can't help me with that?" -- Tom, criticizing his unresponsive Macintosh computore "Without his tireless efforts, this show would not exist. Well, actually, it would exist, but it would really stink." -- Tom, praising the production work of David in D.C. "Yeah, the guy dances around and smokes cigarettes. Puts that, uh, clown makeup on in the mirror. Gets heart surgery." -- Tom, figuring out Fosse "What are you talking about ?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?" -- Neil Mahoney, [...]
Part 3 of 5 in the Teen Beat 26 Anniversary Showcase: Teen Beat Week! As noted in the pre-Teen Beat showcase show as featured on TSOI, The Rondelles were one of the big surprise treats for me. These cats beat Best Coast to the punky '60s girl-group styled paeans to boys, romance, and fast cars by a solid decade. If you are currently groovin' to the new Best Coast album Crazy for You (and you should), you owe it to yourself to take a [...]

Washington DC's Teenbeat Records , one of the all-time best and now longest running indie labels out there, hosted a small showcase tour celebrating 26 years of continual raddness. Unrest, Tuscadero and others were brought out of hibernation making it among the major music events of the year. For me though, the highest of the many highlights might be the reformation of The Rondelles, a band I saw several times at Brownies, back in the day. I caught their first (pre-Teenbeat showcase) show at the Rock Shop in Brooklyn - which turned out [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News Just before Unrest took the stage Friday night at Brooklyn's Bell House, capping the fourth in a series of six concerts commemorating the 26th anniversary of Teen Beat Records , Patrick Bryant, the evening's MC, made a sly observation about the audience. "I want to thank the people that really made this happen," he said. "The babysitters of the greater New York City area." Indeed, the sold-out club was teeming with aging hipsters, 40-somethings who likely discovered Teen [...]

The Rondelles at Launchpad in Albuquerque, NM (08/03/07) Photo : Duke City The first live show at The Rock Shop is on July 8 and it will feature the reunited lineup of The Rondelles (that's one day later than what Skippy originally said , but still in just a little over a week). If you can't wait that long to get your Rock Shop fix, you can check out the bar space which is currently open. Our [...]

In June 1964, the Beatles flew into Australia for a tour that turned the island continent upside down. If the Fab Four hit America like a hurricane, they struck like a monsoon in the Antipodes. Not long after John, Paul, George and Jimmy (Jimmy?! Yes, that's right, Jimmy! But that's another story ) touched down at a rainy Sydney airport on the 11th of June, they were greeted by hundreds of thousands of Australian fans -- many of whom were recent emigres from the U.K. Several of these newly arrived Beatles-smitten folk, being equipped with a fair amount of [...]

There was a time when I made an active effort to keep up on the various comings and goings on in my areas of interest across the world wide web, but as my free time has dwindled over the past couple years, I've gotten to rely more and more on a handful of trusted linkblogs to pre-separate the wheat from the chaff for me. This is especially true for comics-related blogs and websites. There are simply too many to keep track of, and even Google Reader isn't much help in organizing and prioritizing the endless flow of posts. [...]
