What: Wedded folk duo Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion teamed up with San Francisco production duo the Rondo Brothers to form a collaborative quartet known as U.S. Elevator . Their cover of Cyndi Lauper's "All Through the Night" comes from their Valentine EP, fittingly released on Valentine's Day. Shot by Guthrie (daughter of Arlo, granddaughter of Woody) and Irion themselves, the trippy clip is the duo like you've never seen before. Directed by: Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion

A sorta-supergroup entity merging the worlds of folk, pop and country (via Sarah Lee [daughter of Arlo/ granddaughter of Woody] Guthrie and her husband/ musical duo partner Johnny Irion ) and alternative and hip hop (via San Francisco-based multi-instrumentalist/ production/ remixing duo the Rondo Brothers ), U.S. Elevator is one of those ever-fascinating meeting-of-the-minds type of projects where the results could either lean toward being an incredible, and sometimes downright magical, listening experience or an embarrassing hot mess/ epic fail that all parties involved will spend the rest of their respective careers regretting, all [...]

Lots of good new stuff will be forthcoming from our newest feature for new music from new places - The Telephone Game - but before we get there here's a special Xmas/Holiday edition. These folks sent us their holiday tunes and we're just passin' 'em along. Seems like a classic re-gift scenario to us. Note that [...]

another castle - "moebius strip tease" Debut track from the Bay Area's Another Castle (a band name inspired by Super Mario Brothers). Another Castle consists of Brandon Arnovick (from Rondo Brothers ), and Doc Pop (who is also a professional yo-yoer). Doc also records under the name Drown Radio , and makes some pretty awesome crafts out of denim (I have a denim wallet that he made, and he makes some pretty great beer cozies out of [...]

Studio based producers tend to be introverts, as they build beats for other artists, yet stay behind the scenes, avoiding a public image. Rondo Brothers , a west coast production duo, crave the attention. When they're not working on beats for other artists or producing advertisement jingles, they're building their own catalog of hip hop/electronica tunes. Below is a sampling from their latest album, Seven Minutes to Midnight . Add this Band on Myspace [...]
(No Ratings Yet) Loading ...

It is time to post another gosh-damned mix, it seems. It's kind of hard to keep up with all the decent music of the world, so there are only 9 songs this time around. But they're all pretty good, so that's a plus. I wonder if anyone's noticed that all of these mix intros sound pretty much exactly the same, but really they're just meant to be filler to push the songs past whatever ridiculous image I decide to add. This time, it's Happycat! Abigail Grush - Solitude Is Useless - (MP3, 3 [...]

With very little fanfare (other than an Editors CD giveaway post , which is still on until Sunday at midnight BTW), Quick Before It Melts celebrated it's first birthday on Tuesday, July 24. Please refrain from administering any "birthday beatings". Originally, I had a podcast planned, but that didn't pan out quite the way I had expected it to. I have to thank Jim of the Rondo Brothers for creating an awesome birthday track that was going to be used in the podcast, which you [...]

Genre-hopping indie music is always a bit troublesome, and this is especially true with anything with an overlap in hip-hop. The Rondo Brothers reside in that strange place between hip-hop and electronica (thanks to Beck they at least have good company), not particularly comfortable in either genre and proud of it. In the face of a cityscape increasingly painted in shades of gray, the Rondo Brothers' response is to make blissful dance music and flip hip-hop's social awareness coin on its opposite side, and simply shrug off our differences. Seven Minutes to Midnight was released on June 19th, [...]
Norah Jones makes an appearance on the new Talib Kweli record, Eardrum . I'm told Norah graces Talib with her vocal stylings on a track called "Soon the New Day." Other guests on the album include Justin Timberlake, Kanye West, KRS-ONE. I'm also told Norah wisely leaves the rapping to the pros. Eardrum drops August 21st. Sirius channel "Jam On" will broadcast the last show from former Phish keyboardist Page McConnel's US Tour live this Saturday July 14th at 11 pm EST, with a replay on July 19th @ 7 pm EST. Previous live broadcasts [...]

San Francisco's Jim Greer is a man with so much going on in his professional life that he could easily fill a book -- or at least your headphones. The man who comprises one half of the production team and music makers, The Rondo Brothers , has plenty to keep him busy behind the boards, as well as a new Rondos record out now called Seven Minutes To Midnight . This is, of course, in addition to Big Bad Beautiful Dreams , his latest solo record as Diamond Jim , one third of "The [...]
Confession #13 " We have lit fireworks on the road. From the top of a hotel, from the window of a bus, from the smoking area of a club outside. Let's say the police have noticed, but we have yet to get in trouble. And...we might have entered Canada illegally one time, but you didn't hear it here. " - Jim from the Rondo Brothers So, I got this trippy kind of music in my inbox that rubbed me the right way, probably [...]

"Chamber rock" as a genre description sounds a bit sketchy to me. My initial thoughts were imagining Joanna Newsom with a Suzi Quatro haircut. Thankfully, Rasputina has a bit more to offer than "harp rock." Throw Rufus Wainwright's backing band in a blender with a couple of pan flute players and any number of female-fronted shimmy-shakers, and you'll begin to approximate this band's sound. Rasputina, "Cage In A Cave" + Rasputina + official + Myspace [...]

Coltrane Motion I am not usually into dance/DJ/trip-hop music, but every once in a while something comes along that is just so catchy I get pulled into it in spite of myself. Chicago's Mike Bond and Matt Dennewitz have created a dancing Frankenstein of a sound from influences as disparate as Neutral Milk Hotel, Arab Strap, Grandaddy, and Missy Elliott. I like all these by themselves, but how well could they possibly mix? Surprise! It's very attractive and different! [...]
