Hailing from Minneapolis, Minnesota, The Rope is the post-punk outfit of Jesse Hagon (vocals), Mike Browning (guitar), Sam Richardson (bass), Matt Evans (drums), and Paul Teravskis (synths, keys). Their gloom-laced songs incorporate the brooding bass lines, spiky guitar riffs, and aggressive percussion parts found in records of Killing Joke , Bauhaus , The Sound , The Sisters Of Mercy , and The Chameleons , while the indelible layers of synths bring to mind Roger O'Donnell and The Cure . However, there is more to this quintet than pure homage [...]

There is a craze that long ago began taking this nation by storm and finally made its way to the Tampa area. The craze? Drive thrus. These aren't your mom and dad's drive thrus though. These are the kind of drive thrus that you don't even drive thru. That's right, these babies come to you. They are called food trucks. Tampa, like every other urban area in this country, hasf inally cashed in on the trend holding their third food truck rally in November. If teachers are talking about it being the "next big thing" you know that it has [...]
Click here to view the video on YouTube. For a long time it seems I've been a fan of just about everything related to Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst, I excitedly caught a set of theirs when they were in town opening for Butch Walker last month. I'm a huge fan of their solo works ( The Winner , Lions And Lambs ), as well as some of their other projects ( Oh, Scorpio ) and well I have been [...]
Give Them Rope was Coalesce's debut full length from 1997. This is its second re-release. Worth getting if you haven't already got this classic hardcore album.
Last week's contest proved popular, not surprisingly, because the prize was extra-sweet: a signed copy of Textures' latest CD Dualism as well as a t-shirt of your choice from their webstore. And our winner is: Jonathan Delarosa: "Burn calories, not churches. Eat a br00tally balanced breakfast every morning." In case you haven't heard yet, Coalesce [...]

Growing up, I was a metal kid: if there was any shred at all, I ate it up. This means that in 1997 I wasn't aware of bands like Coalesce, who came more from the hardcore side of things and certainly did not shred, although they're of course now widely respected as being among the [...]
Have you ever watched a company implode so quickly before your eyes? It's happening with Netflix. This has to be a record for going from everyone's favorite companies to one of the most despised in such a short amount of time.

On Nov. 7 Birmingham, England-based indie rock luminaries Johnny Foreigner release their third and finest full-length, the titanic quasi-concept album Johnny Foreigner vs. Everything . As fronter Alexei Berrow told Stereoboard here last month, the hotly anticipated record -- which sold out of deluxe pre-orders in fewer than 12 hours -- is less autobiographical than the prior two, and concerns itself with "the alternate universe theory; for every decision you make, there exists a world where you made the opposite. There's also internal monologue in the merits of experiencing stuff versus capturing it [...]

I admit that I started keeping tabs on Emily Barker due to her work with Frank Turner , which is pretty much the point around which my world revolves. However, as with artists like Ben Marwood and Fake Problems I have no regrets. If you haven't heard Emily's music, you're in for a treat. Like so much of the harmony-heavy, string based, folk style music that's popular these days, she'll be an easy fit in your life. Emily's voice is strong and distinct, her songwriting full of soul and [...]

NG's songwriting clinic continues on "Alone on the Rope". If Noel were a new artist every bloggerdude out there would be falling over themselves to content farm this shit. Perception is the game. Noel is old and Oasis aren't cool. We love you Noel. Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Alone on the Rope Noel Gallagher ( Official ) Rating 8.4
Since Noel Gallagher announced his High Flying Birds project, most of the UK music industry has waited with baited breath. Waiting, indeed, for some music. When it eventually came in the form of The Death of You and Me , some cheered it's singalong chorus and its simple, stomping shtick. Others however, were dissapointed in Noel's apparent inability to draw inspiration from anything other than the same handful of groups that had influenced Oasis - namely The Beatles, The Kinks, The Stone blah blah blah... Which camp you fell into really depended on what you wanted from [...]
