THE ROPES ' upcoming EP has a great title track, although I'm not sure what about the correlations between the topics of the song and clubs in Europe. I think what they're trying to say is that the duo will be around a long time and so will human atrocities. MP3: The Ropes - Clubs in Europe Forever
I mentioned the Ropes a couple of months ago, and I'm happy to report that they will be releasing their EP, The Clubs in Europe Forever , today! If you aren't familiar with the duo, their music plays like Euro-tinged pseudodisco. The Ropes-Clubs in Europe Forever [mp3] From the duo: The Clubs in Europe Forever EP is shipping on June 2, 2009. Where is my mind? I've been meaning to write about New York duo The Ropes for weeks now, yet only remember to when Sean posts their latest video . Thank goodness for Sean! While their official site is rather sparse on biographical info (other than "We are The Ropes. We want to fight you.") their MySpace is a bit more generous in that regard. The Ropes formed in 2005 and are vocalist/bassist Sharon Shy and multi-instrumentalist Toppy. Their discography so far consists of the EP Cry to the Beat , full length [...]
This video was emailed to me by a reader named Natalie, who thought it might be up my alley. Nice catch Natalie! I do, indeed, like this video. And to think, she sent this to me before my Cats vs Dogs post! :) Of course, the song isn't literally about a kitty, but the video definitely is. Poor kitty is stuck in a tree! [SPOILERS] They totally help kitty down. [/SPOILERS] More importantly, I really like this band. I'd never heard of The Ropes before seeing this video. Or [...]

the ropes er en new yorker-baseret dreng/pige-duo, der i maj sidste år udgav det mere rockede debutalbum 'what they do for fun'. kitty get down er fra deres nye ep 'under the gun', som udkom i februar. det er godt nok ikke hitsinglen derfra, dog handler den om at hjælpe og være god ved dyr - to ting, som jeg sætter umådelig stor pris på. Kitty Get Down - The Ropes
We know that other bloggers read this. If you are a fellow blogger, don't be shy, feel free to pop your blog's details on the comments section and we will happily check you out and if you're really, really lucky we can even add you on our blog roll. We have to have some quality control though, so be aware that listing it doesn't automatically gain entry. Good luck. Today's recommendations pick up three very lovely, but oh so varied, bits of rather left-field newness. It's all good though, so we hope you enjoy them. As always, let us know [...]

Photo by Bo Streeter New York-based band The Ropes don't pull any punches. From the opening lines of 'I Don't Like to Get Dirty,' we learn that "You can all go fuck yourselves/You can all go burn in hell," which is not the best way to get someone to continue listening, but then, like the slogan for Sour Patch Kids (nasty stuff), we find out that first The Ropes are sour, then they're sweet: "If there's anything you need at all I would help you out." Composed of vocalist/bassist Sharon Shy and [...]

NYC based duo The Ropes are vocalist/bassist Sharon Shy and multi-instrumentalist Toppy (known for playing drums with the guitar hanging around his neck). Notorious for their engaging lyrics, The Ropes have toured extensively throughout the US and UK, opening for acts such as The Used , Innerpartysystem , The Matches , and others. The Ropes have released an EP titled " Cry to the Beat " and a full length album " What They Do For Fun ", both produced by Nic Hard and Toppy. " Be My Gun " Music [...]

I'm working on gathering things together for a long overdue "Music From My Mailbox" post, but in the meantime, I wanted to share something kinda cool that I got a few days ago. The Ropes are a two-piece band from New York. In a variation of the usual guitar and drums theme, they have a singer/bassist (Sharon Shy) and a "multi-instrumentalist" (Toppy, who will often play the drums with a guitar hanging around his neck). Following the success of their debut, What They Do for Fun , which was [...]
We previously featured the Ropes' Kitty Get Down which was pretty well received by staff and fans alike. We were recently contacted with another one of their songs title Be My Gun . Check it after the jump.

Song Pam Schaffer ~ " Synapses " myspace plays: 1,413 mp3 download ~LA Style~ Pam Schaffer is a Los Angeles based singer/songwriter that reminds me sort of like Regina Spektor meets The Dresden Dolls . Her bio on myspace starts out with the line "A sexy librarian with a killer shoe collection". That has to be one of the best lines I've read in a while! [...]

The first words I ever heard The Ropes' Sharon Shy sing were "You can all go fuck yourselves, you can all go burn in hell..." and since the moment the initial shock wore off I have been hooked. You may (but probably don't) remember about 7 months ago when I called their track "I Don't Like to Get Dirty" the most upbeat song about severe depression ever. Sample lyric: "The only reason I haven't put myself in the ground already/Is I don't like to get dirty." The ropes are back at it with a new EP ( [...]

Thanks to Natalie Valenzuela from the bands street team for getting in touch about The Ropes. I guess with all the good advice I've been giving you about relationships you don't need any more. Probably a good job as this two piece male/female band from USA have been thinking about killing you, well maybe not YOU but whoever the song is for. Oh and when I say male/female band I don't mean their shemales . In fact reading some of the comments on YouTube I think quite a few people have got the hots for the lead singer / [...]
[LISTEN TO " THE ROPES // Be my Gun "] It sounds like... : un duo from NYC avec des chansons "dark-wave-pop" efficaces ; un mélange entre "The Kills" et "Goldfrapp"... [ Myspace ] Listen_Écouter : >> Voir les clips de "The Ropes" sur leur chaine "YOUTUBE". [..DOWNLOAD..] [ MP3 ] [...]
It's almost April, but it's still quite dreary here in Chicago. No matter how much we will Spring to come, the rain, ice and gray days are unending. The tunes of NYC duo The Ropes are the perfect Spring soundtrack for bike rides that turn to rain and sunny mornings with chilly temperatures. Vocalist/bassist Sharon Shy and multi-instrumentalist Toppy harken to the glory days of indie rock with guitar-driven melodies and lyrics you'll memorize all the words to. Relaxed and carefree, but never lacking an edge, the music of the The Ropes makes me instantly nostalgic [...]
