Here's a two piece band from New York by the name of The Ropes. Sharon and Toppy are putting out a dark new wave pop. The songs on their latest ep, Love is Chain Store, will be using a "pay what you want" system. It's always interesting when a band can put [...]

The last time we heard from NYC duo The Ropes they had released their single " Be My Gun ." Since then they have toured extensively as well as work on their new EP, Love Is A Chain Store . The EP, due to be released on a "pay what u want model" on 12/15, then physically on Jan 12, will bring with it 3 new tracks produced with the help of Nic Hard . On the latest EP the duo expands upon the bands’ previous musings on isolation, individualism, and anti-romance with lead [...]
Wednesday I had to attend a meeting in Copenhagen and though I’m happy to no longer be working in our Capital city, I did enjoy the 1 hour train ride. Moments where I can sit quietly doing absolutely nothing without having a bad conscience are rare, so naturally I embraced this opportunity with enthusiasm. Spent most of the time on the train listening to the much talked-about debut album by The xx and although previous listens have revealed that it is a fine release, it wasn’t [...]
If you closed your eyes, Sharon Shy, singer and bassist of the duo The Ropes, almost sounds like a Nico incarnate through and through in the title track of her band's newest EP, Love Is A Chain Store. Alongside the...
Wife's out, kids are sleeping, but no beer tonight as it is Tuesday evening. Mailbox is jammed and there are plenty of blogs to check out. Hopefully something interesting will pop up? Ivan has written a rather entertaining post on his trip to All Tomorrow's Parties . My short term memory is a joke, as I had completely forgotten our talk about favorite Mew songs. But I do believe we came to the conclusion that Mica [...]

Bella Union shared the first single off the upcoming Beach House album titled Teen Dream . The track is titled "Norway" and serves as an eerie [...]

If someone had kindly explained before I started editing a Music Blog that sleep depredation, permanent detachment from loved ones and tinnitus could possibly occur, do you think we would still be reviewing countless musical offerings and showcasing hundreds of fantastic tunes three years later. Well, the answer my friend`s is probably still a resounding Yes! Happy third birthday Mojophenia and may the expanding concept album continue, has anyone seen my spare hearing aid batteries ? The Ropes caught my eye awhile ago with their single, "Be My Gun." When they let go and get loud they really shine, I think. So go pop over to their MySpace and have a listen to "I Don't Like to Get Dirty." The kind of little-girl naivete in Sharon Shy's voice when she sings up high is really nicely offset by some industrial sounding beats and guitar work. The rest is just blase enough to be a good mellow listen for one of those moods. Their new EP Clubs in Europe Forever [...]
