The album cover depicts the group in a field of blossoms, but that's as close to flower-power that the Shondells came on this album. There are production touches of the era, including the tight segue between the first two tracks, the feedback, fades and false [...]

Rock singles-band transitions to studio pop Tommy James and The Shondells kicked around their Michigan stomping grounds for several years before finding regional success in 1963 with a cover of Barry & Greenwich's "Hanky Panky." James recruited a band to be the new Shondells, and in 1966 toured behind the single, cut a deal with Roulette Records and turned their flop into a chart-topping hit. Line-up changes ensued and the band [...]

The song is really not that cute at all for her. She could do so much better and she should have big uptempo number for the first single. it sounds even worse than "Take A Bow." She looks ferocious in the video, but that doesn't mean she should be release this lackluster number. Rated R better have some pumpin' tunes. Not exactly the type of song we were anticipating to be the opener of Rihanna's comeback album. Especially after all the drama. She should came out with a big perseverance number a la "I Will Survive." It's actually kind of annoying with it's repetition and her voice. Still, we are sure Rated R has bigger and better numbers. Until last week, I'd never heard of this album. Ian sent it to me. Maybe he was trying to inspire me to rewrite my list of ten albums he turned me onto, because this one definitely would make that list. I've listened to it a half-dozen times in the last week. It's that good. What we have here is one of the earliest recordings [...]
