The universe tends to sort itself out. After years of being awesome without the deserved recognition, Hollywood-lifer Jeff Bridges received his first Academy Award for his portrayal of an aging country singer in Crazy Heart and will hit the theaters with two high-profile appearances this holiday season: the Daft Punk-infused Tron: Legacy and the Coen Brothers' remake of True Grit . Having seen the highs and lows of Hollywood before (more like highs and mediums), Bridges probably knows that the ability to pursue projects of this caliber is inevitably fleeting. This [...]
No, no, no, NOT The Veronicas. More like Veronica Falls . Although I am a shameless fan of the former, this one's about this part London / part Glaswegian indie band that caught my fancy with the extremely catchy Beachy Head . Word from Wichita was that Beachy Head was previously an unreleased track, good thing that it's revived then, coz I can't stop listening to it. [Video: Veronica Falls - Beachy head (live)] This video doesn't do it justice. You need to listen to it on their myspace. -Video- [...]
Check out this hot new video from LA rockers, Silversun Pickups, performing The Royal We from their grammy nominated album Swoon . They have just released summer tour dates with Against Me ! and The Henry Clay People , what an awesome lineup for a tour! Silversun Pickups - Lazy Eye (acoustic)
The official video for Silversun Pickups' "The Royal We" fromt heir album Swoon out now!

Voodoo Experience Festival, New Orleans, LA (10-30-09)-1466 , originally uploaded by BetweenLoveandLike . Admittedly, I wasn't crazy about the Silversun Pickups song "The Royal We" when I first heard it on their latest, Swoon . But live, live the song is an effin' force of nature. The energy that exudes from lead singer/guitarist Brian Aubert alone could blow a house down; add the power of drummer Chris Guanlao, and it's a full-on hurricane. That sort of band is a blast to photograph. This is the [...]
It's clear from the line wrapped around not one, not two, but three sides of the block demarcated by 3rd, Minna, Montgomery and Howard Streets that 1,000 of our closest friends will be joining us on the list tonight. More accurately, a great many of SF MOMA's good acquaintances also received an invitation (+1!) to opening night of the 75th anniversary show with special guests including Jackson

The Royal We? I thought they split up. Did they always sound like minimal techno? For fans of the Scottish indie band of the same name, this new Seth Troxler release will come as something of a disappointment. 'Party Guilt' is a track that will immediately alienate anyone who got very tired of detuned waffling techno vocals when they first became ubiquitous, and it really doesn't get any less tedious. Of the remixes 'Dinky' offers a weird, almost beatless take on the track that offers an interesting dialogue-based outing that's more like a radio play than a piece of dance [...]

It seams like we've been waiting nearly a year for this to release. The Royal We (Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves and Hector) come with their tongue-in-cheek jackin' commentary on why some people suck. Sure, we could mention the vocals, how haha they are and how everyone is reminded of so-and-so when hearing them but that would be obvious. Check the 4:10 mark for Troxlers' (hopefully) improm ptu humming over the bassline. Classic. The Royal We - Party Guilt ( HQ ) Our Facebook Page | Follow us on Twitter

This was an impulse buy for me. I happened to be at a local music store the day Swoon was released. I had heard a song or two by the Silversun Pickups via The Hype Machine , but nothing that really blew me away. I ended up purchasing the album mostly due to a want of something new to listen to (and the lack of perceived quality from other new releases). And man, let me just say I'm glad I did. This is a solid album from front to [...]

Seth Troxler, Shaun Reeves and Hector present The Royal We, and their fiendish release 'Party Guilt' on Crosstown Rebels will crack the smiles of its most discerning listeners. A release dogged by hype - as each release from Detroit's youngest prodigy Seth Troxler has been of late - 'Party Guilt' is unforgettable, not least for Troxler's sneering vocals reproachful of a girl who is out for the party. Co-produced with cohorts Shaun Reeves and Hector, this is a mischievous slice of Chicago style house that has a foot steadily on the gas, subtly edging up the energy levels. Dinky and [...]

I was lucky enough to catch this live earlier today on KCRW, one of the public radio stations here in LA, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite stations ever. If you're not an LA resident, you can still listen for free through their website at KCRW.com . But back to SSPU's performance, I noticed the keyboard player Joe Lester was absent when I went back and watched the video, but the band still managed to fill out their sound pretty well. Another interesting fact about the performance: according to lead singer Brian Aubert, this was their first [...]

With the Silversun Pickups sophomore release scheduled to hit the shelves tomorrow, I wanted to post another tune from Swoon . The Royal We is listed as the second track on the band's follow-up effort to their blowout debut release Carnavas . In another example of how the recording industry is evolving with new mediums/technologies, Silversun Pickups have already released two tracks from the upcoming album as downloadable content for Guitar Hero: World Tour. With early reviews of the album all coming back extremely positive, I highly recommend getting your hands on this tomorrow. [...]

>> [Photo Credit: Pettri Lamula] That large, booming rock noise you hear coming from Norway is very likely Simon Says No! . The young, Oslo-based four piece has taken the whirlpool swirl of Sweden's Sereena Maneesh ( remember them? ), layered on a bit more pop gloss and added more depth with clever production. Formed in early 2006 when British-born guitarist Simon Oakland and guitarist and singer Ruben Nesse split from the hardcore act Jeroan Drive , Simon Says No! shuffled through a couple different rhythm sections before the current lineup gelled. [...]

Received an email from a regular reder today who asked me: " Do you know anything about The Royal We/1990's split single Sorry For Laughing/Poor Old Soul?" Now, unfortunately I don;t but can anyone out there help? If it is not an urban myth then it's not on emusic or itunes. If anyone can help, please get in touch... Anyway, it gives me the opportunity to post a track a piece by these bands. 1990s -'You Made Me Like It.' mp3 The Royal We -'Three is [...]

Get your notepad out, this week has some quick hitters that are destined to spice up your music player. Led by The Academy Is and their newest piece, Fast Times at Barrington High , the pop punk boys from Chicago have been gaining speed from album to album. Perhaps the most flexible of the artists releasing this week, is none other than the Swedish soulful indie groove of Lykke Li . Her song "Little Bit" is so darn catchy. For fans of [...]

The end is finally here! (Background photo by IdleType ) 2007 was an awesome year for indiepop, and for most music in general. I've heard tons upon tons of fantastic stuff this year, but because list making is SO GOSH DARN FUN, I must widdle them all down to a mere fifteen. It was tough, but I feel pretty good about how the list eventually came out. Please leave your comments, as well as your own lists if you got em!!! Happy 2007! [...]
