To talk about the new Ruby Suns album "Fight Softly," one must first breach the topic of Animal Collective and their year's best masterpiece "Merriweather Post Pavilion" from 2009. The reason why is simple - it seems to me that The Ruby Suns are intent on crafting their new album from nearly the same cloth that Animal Collective did - for better or worse. If you're going to actively try and copy such a critically acclaimed artist, the comparison is either going to make or break you, and that largely depends on if you're actually up to the lofty standards [...]
This is another slow-ish week for new music. If you want our recommendations, we'll probably pick up the Rogue Wave and Athlete albums, the Little Boots album (if you didn't get it last year), and the album from The Ruby Suns. Like we always do, there are a some tracks after the list, [...]
Off The Record is a recurring feature here on the Drunkard that marries two of my greatest interests; music and travel. Having a locals perspective when visiting a new locale is the difference between experiencing it through the lens of a tourist and of that of a native. Off The Record gathers some of my favorite [...]

As the third full-length from The Ruby Suns , Fight Softly is laden with a hypnotic and luscious array of sounds influenced beyond their home - The Ruby Suns have picked up an international flavour impossible to ignore, particularly the bleeding stylistic parallel between Panda Bear . The difference here is the soulful vocals of Ryan McPhun that has made The Ruby Suns that bit more accessible than the aforementioned. Photo: Amee Robinson Fight Softly is eclectic yet [...]

Sometimes you just need some happy music to pick you up and the Ruby Suns provide just that. Take some New Zealand and sprinkle in some California and you get the carefree sunny style of the Ruby Suns. Their new album Fight Softly drops in early March and count me excited. Both Dusty Fruit and Cranberry are jaunty tropical jams that are not only upbeat, but most importantly interesting. Diverse percussion, some accordion, and Animal Collective-esque swirl have launched the Ruby Suns into my heavy rotation. Not to mention that these songs will just make you happy (or [...]

Sometimes a song exudes sunshine. “Cranberry” by The Ruby Suns is one such a song. A frivolously feathered song of big band regality, singing sirens and all-together chaos, this new tune captures the noises our parents asked us to keep quiet when we were young. The antithetical mixing of simple synthesized backbeats and dripping vocals make for a somehow breezy explosion of rhythms. One could not help but feel better while and after listening to this song. Having successfully melted together big island movements with [...]

Photography "Born In A Bottle Rocket" by Tsuru , Model by Isabella Misery Well it's time for the weekend. Finally, right? Can I get a high-five? Sweet. What you doing this weekend? Looks like more snow here, so my riding will be relegated to The Tank . BUT, if that good lard's a-willin' and the creeks don't rise, Tuck and I will be driving out the route [...]

The Ruby Suns prepare to release their third album "Fight Softly" , following 2008's "Sea Lion", which has been described as a "global psychedelic journey", musically-busy kaleidoscopic pop, on the 15th of Feb (here in NZ) and the 2nd of March in the US. Ryan McPhun has given us an indication that Fight Softly will provide a different style from that of Sea Lion, bassy-er with more synths and organic sounds disguised as the opposite. We've had a sneak peek into the new release with the tracks "Cranberry" where the synths and bassy-er sounds can be heard [...]
The Ruby Suns - Cinco I’ve been checking out some of the new tunes from The Ruby Suns’ next record Fight Softly recently. I’d wager that this is... (Visit my blog for more!)
...then you might fancy The Ruby Suns . These New Zealanders share music for the masses who are willing to sit down and have a listen. Their latest album, Fight Softly , is a bit different sounding than their previous two releases, but if that means nothing to you then just find out for yourself and hold it against me later if you wasted your time. Photography by xrawrxdeex So I wake up this morning and this song is playing in my head: Bryan Adams - Everything I Do (I Do It For You) Yeah. I know. But it got me thinking... Man, Bryan Adams ruled the world back then, didn't he? Every damn ballad he could muster would be played every hour on the hour! And you can see it, every woman in the house, taking every scratchy voiced word sung to heart. I think there [...]

Who : The Ruby Suns Title : Fight Softly Release Date : March 2nd Label : Sub Pop Thoughts : As a huge fan of The Ruby Suns last effort, Sea Lion , I was a bit concerned when I heard that Ryan McPhun and company were going to veer away from the catchy indie pop that had so fully endeared me and countless others to the band in the [...]
the ruby suns - cranberry [new zealand is in the house and this time the ruby suns return with a bright quirky gem of a song that mixes afro pop with lite house grooves. you have to hear it to believe it, which is probably why it's wongie's song of the week. brilliant!] http://feeds.feedburner.com/Wo ngiesMusicWorld
