Hey! Thought we forgot about this, eh? Nah... Next time I leave the country for a month, I will also leave access to the hard drive where all my files are located. So we're still aiming to re-post all of the Blogophilia volumes by summer's end. Today we have volumes 5 & 6, which feature promotional MP3s available during May and June of 2009. As always, these are gapless mixes with cover art. These are only up for a limited time, so get them now! - [...]

The Rumble Strips - Back To Black [Amy Winehouse] | od Rest In Peace Amy :(
Blogophilia refers to the series of mixes that were developed from promotional mp3s found on different music blogs. As we've grown, we've come to rely less on other blogs and more on what we're sent that we review or feature. We receive a lot of requests to repost old Blogophilia mixes, and have to kindly refuse because of space issues. Well, that's going to change. This summer, we'll feature 2-3 Blogophilia posts a week until we're current. If you've followed this site, you'll know we already maintain links [...]

[Heart Day Mix] A Mix for Valentine's Day As I sit here penning this, waiters and waitresses at Italian restaurants are readying their tables and florists are picking bushes clean of every single rose that dare bud from it this season. Be weary dear readers, VD strikes everyone on this day, and it is my dearest wish that you catch it and hold on to it forever and ever and ever. Ah, love! Happy Valentine's Day! Heart Day Mix (artist name leads to site and all songs are right click [...]
Thanks to my lovely friend Tory I managed to get a last minute ticket to see The Rumble Strips ( MySpace ) and The Maccabees ( MySpace ) at the distinguished Hospital Club in Covent Garden last night. It was great to see these two back on the same bill again and this was part of the Mercury Music Prize Sessions which have hosted Noah and the Whale, Florence and the Machine and the Golden Silvers over the past few months. I hadn't been to the Hospital Club before, but [...]

As promised, here's a recap of all the songs that were featured in the 'Your Indie Music Lyric of the Day' section since I started it a few weeks ago. If everything works out right next week, I'll have this out every Sunday. If not, it would have been because I got caught up watching my husband's ' The Middleman ' marathon ( why oh, why did they cancel that show? ) back to back with Chris O' Dowd in Frequently Asked Questions About Time Travel (which was a really great film [...]

Filed under: Exclusive , Spinner Interview , New Music , Canada It's been four years since the violinist formerly known as Final Fantasy released his Polaris Prize -winning album 'He Poos Clouds,' a quirky masterwork about loneliness, escapism and Dungeons & Dragons. So when Owen Pallett stepped onto Toronto's Mod Club stage last night to introduce his latest album 'Heartland,' he was welcomed home with hearty applause. Pallett began with his usual self-looped solo performance before being joined [...]

71. Golden Silvers 'True Romance' (XL) - Uninspiring for something via XL. 70. Editors 'In This Light And On This Evening' (Kitchenware) - What the fuck were they even trying here? 69. The Temper Trap 'Conditions' (Infectious) - THAT song nonetheless, an okay effort. [...]
![[New] Thee Oh Sees, The Rumble Strips, Crocodiles, Cornershop](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1945732_lg.jpg)
Image From Here So, we continue on with some new music. Well, it is at least new to me.... Personally, this was my first taste of Thee Oh Sees. However, I was familiar somewhat with frontman John Dwyer's work in the San Francisco area (Coachwhips, Pink & Brown, OCS etc.). Thee Oh Sees latest Help is the bands second full-length LP following their 2008's debut The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending A Night In . The band fits easily into the garage/punk/psych genre of indie music and they do it [...]

David E. Sugar comes off the back of the dance life in London. He writes his own music, regularly produces and is doing one of those "song a week" internet things I always find a bit tacky... But he's got a good breadth of music, from chilled symphonic to egdey rock. And sometimes just mental electro trance. Good for spinning in circles. Essentially the best part about this excitable nugget is that he can write a good melody, rather than just relying on beats and experimentation with sound. I first heard David E. Sugar on the [...]
Charlie Waller has a big mouth! Then again, as lead singer with The Rumble Strips , this is probably a good thing. In fact, it was that same voice and Waller’s rousing rendition of Amy Winehouse’s 'Back in Black', that first brought Waller to the attention of one Mark Ronson, producer of their latest offering, Welcome to the Walk Alone . Now, truth be told, I’m not too fond of Mark Ronson. To me, he’s the musical equivalent of Domino’s Pizza - grand once in a while, but too much of him could [...]

Piccadilly Circus London - The Rumble Strips Posted in Leftovers Tagged: mp3, Music, The Rumble Strips

One of Radio 1's most cherished DJ's is deeply respected for his championing of great music - almost three years ago Rob Da Bank had this David E. Sugar mix spinning regularly and I've just seen it hiding in my music collection. The Rumble Strips' piano-led single was no Mercury Prize winning record but it's definitely good ol' fashioned fun. We need more fun and less seriousness at the moment - a lot of artists are trying too hard to be edgy and original and they're bombing hard. The Rumble Strips - [...]

We must admit, we are obsessing a bit over the new Rumble Strips album, Welcome To The Walk Alone . The guys recently performed and shot a session for The Sun UK's Biz Session . The band kicked things off with current single Not The Only Person , top ten contender for the year, eh? Watch the performance here . And yes, we are going to say it again, we love the [...]

I found all the best tracks this week at the last minute before posting. Sometimes it just happens that way: Brazilian duo Sabo & Zeb's 'Sangueboom' is a favela-funk-fusion of frenetic Drums and sweet Latin vocals from Andrea Monteiro. The Organ solo halfway through is on fire. Stacy Epps reminds me of a female Lupe Fiasco with rhymes that hit just as hard. The production on 'Cold Times' is a subtle mix of Jazz, Funk and Dancehall flavours. [...]

This song has instant likeability. Found it over at TSURURADIO . Never really paid much attention to the Rumble Strips before. Seemed like your generic indie band. New album is very good though. Apparently Mark Ronson produced. Me likey. Listen: The Rumble Strips - Not The Only Person MP3: The Rumble Strips - Not The Only Person

So, how well did we do last week then? Let's start with the bad news shall we? V.V. Brown 's ridiculously catchy 'Shark In The Water' drowned (boom, boom, tish), wallowing at a lowly number 38. Given the fact the chart was littered with Michael Jackson releases and the lack of airplay from Radio 1 you could be forgiven for thinking it was an alright result. We'll have to wait and see how patient her label will be. On the album chart, however, Lungs by Florence & The Machine breathed new life (boom, boom, tish...tish) [...]
