There's a million excellent shows in the area in the coming months and here's just a sampling of what I have tickets for so far. Due to work travel I may not be able to see all of them (dammit) and there's plenty more I would love to see but are either sold out or not in my schedule (Beirut, Explosions in the Sky) but yeah, it's going to be busy. Starting tonight. Sept. 28 - Mogwai at Union Transfer (Philadelphia) [...]
This change in weather must have brought along a wave of creativity...more CD releases this weekend!

Rachel Lee Tentcher It was just a couple nights ago that the cream of the Canadian music crop was honoured (one twenty-eight thousand times more than the others) at the Polaris Music Prize gala, but with those (mostly) veteran acts having gotten their moment in the spotlight, what say we take a look at some local talent that's a little closer to the grassroots level? In particular, the roots of the grass up in Newmarket, 'round the north end of Toronto around where the 905 begins to give way to the 705. [...]

Keith Klenowski Just to be clear: filling Massey Hall for two nights in a row is no mean feat. Not many bands can do it once, let alone twice, but when The National did just that last June in support of their breakout album High Violet , it felt like an arrival - the best and most natural setting for a band that had graduated from the bar circuit and were taking their rightful place in the city's most hallowed room, hopefully for years to come. Sunday was the last day for the Ottawa Folk Festival . The weather changed from hot to cold due to the incoming of Hurricane Irene. Luckily it didn't hit Ottawa but gutted parts of the USA. Mostly it was cool and windy. People braved the weather and came out to the workshops that happened at the festival. The workshops I attended were: Intro to Harmonica Cigar Box Guitar [...]

Just a quick post today, to turn your attention to the new The Rural Alberta Advantage clip for "Muscle Relaxants," off of this year's Polaris-nominated record Departing . The band posted a five-part making-of series prior to the release of the video, detailing how they landed all these lovely underwater shots. Check it out. +MP3: The Rural Alberta Advantage - Muscle Relaxants MySpace
by teepoo Here's the latest video by The Rural Alberta Advantage . Stunning video to go with a stunning song.

The Rural Alberta Advantage do not make bad music. Here is yet another example of why everyone should be listening to this band. Go buy a copy of Hometowns and Departing . You will not regret it. Check out their latest music video for "Muscle Relaxants". THE RURAL ALBERTA ADVANTAGE - MUSCLE RELAXANTS
Rurual Alberta Advantage have got a new video for "Muscle Relaxants," and we've got to admit that it's pretty epic. The underwater slo-mo doesn't quite fit the feel of the band's music, but it's still makes for one gorgeous video. Check it out above.

Tony Park For the past month and a half or so, those given to keeping an eye on The Rural Alberta Advantage have watched with curiosity as the band has released a three - part series of video vignettes documenting the making of the second official video from their sophomore effort Departing for the song "Muscle Relaxants". Not unusual in and of itself except for the fact that the video itself hadn't been released yet. So rather than eliciting reactions of, "oh that's how [...]
I'm not sure why bands even bother with videos, it must be part of the game they've got to play. It's a good song from a very good record, the band's latest release, Departing, on Paper Bag Records. With apologies this video has an advertisement preamble.
Rolling Stone premiered the newest video the Canucks The Rural Alberta Advantage today. It's a far cry from their last video that was more humor than visual pleasure. This time around though the band is going more for the artistic angle. Just the band members, a pool, an inflatable turtle and some well placed lighting. If you want to see how the whole thing was pulled together then watch the 3 part video series on You Tube. Video 1 Video 2 Video [...]

Well, we're just about halfway with the reposts... Today, we feature volumes 9 and 10, which were originally posted in August 2009. Volume 10 holds a special place in this blog's history, because that's when Aaron from Tsururadio offered to post the mix on his blog. That started a bit of following and it has grown ever since. Aaron's moved onto Tsuruphoto, following his passion for photography. He now has a nudie-zine featuring some edgy but tasteful art, several videos to promote the zine and Tsuruphoto, and the occasional mixtape. We owe a big thanks for his early support, and [...]
