Intended as a taster for their new album, for which, in their own words, The Sailplanes ha've been "toning down the abrasive sounds and concentrating more on playing our fucking instruments", this 5-track EP is, for a band who count "clanging, banging and awful singing" among their influences, a stylish and interesting piece of work. It was a couple of years ago that I first encountered The Sailplanes . A London band by way of Berlin, they made the kind of noisy, scrappy rock that was so good I even branded them as one of our Great British Hopes . Since then, the band have returned to London, and have decided to take a more refined approach to their style. As the band themselves put it, they have been focusing on "toning down the abrasive sounds, and concentrating more on playing our fucking instruments". It seems to have paid off though. The songs [...]
Is it me, or did March fly by? Either way, we like to think we introduced you to some pretty cool bands throughout that month and to celebrate, we're giving away a lovely mixtape of all the bands featured! Not only that, but you could win the mixtape on an actual cassette (pictured above and below). For your chance to win this special mixtape, all you need to do is: 1. [...]

The Sailplanes are Stacey Hine (guitar/vocals), Tim Webster (guitar/vocals), Yola Rodowicz (drums) and Mihai Cucos (bass). After being featured in Tuesday's Cloud Corner and an email from the band a few weeks back, we decided that they certainly needed to be highlighted. MP3: The Sailplanes - Tilted In 2007 they recorded and self-released the mini-album 'A second, or ten years later', which got [...]

Well we've heard back from the lifeboat lady, and apparently our efforts ( here , and the aftermath here ) have managed to raise pretty much double the amount of previous years. This, frankly, is fucking brilliant news so massive thanks to everyone who came along - Dave & Michael from The Stormy Seas , Neil from Meursault , Dylan from Blueback Hotrod , a random hot chick from Mrs. Toad's work, Morgan from, er, Glasgow and Ed from 17 Seconds (& 17 Seconds Records ). Brilliant stuff - same again next year? [...]

Every now and again something I'll run across something that I instantly love. Coming up with new content for here on a daily basis means that I post a lot of stuff that I like, but don't have that immediate connection with. The ones that do tend to be the bands that end up being part of our Great British Hopes series. Assuming that they are British of course. The Sailplanes are currently based in Berlin, but luckily for me they formed in London. They make a kind of noisy, messy pop that is [...]
London's the Sail Planes have a tried and true weapon on their side: the amateur element. Everyone from the Velvet Underground to the Slits have used it to make a lack of ability seem like it's own ability. The recent rise of lo-fi music has made rough recordings and rougher musicianship cool again, but the Sail Planes aren't your average trio of shadily recorded roustabouts. They've got the sound of a post-punk relic. Maybe Gang of Four if they had some male/female vocals and an early Modest Mouse guitar tone going for them. These two tracks [...]
Hi, I bring you news of our latest singles club release and three big interviews: In its second download the GIITTV zine singles club http://www.godisinthetvzine.co .uk ("the cult record label/zine" Artrocker) releases "A Knife A Camera and a Bang" taken from The Sailplanes debut album, as free download single on the 26th of November. Free bside "Strangers" will also come as part of the release. Icy cold, sharp as a knife and infinitely more devastating, "A Knife, A Camera, A Bang" harnesses the military rhythmic precision of Can and Einsturzende Neubaten, and the [...]

I meant to write about the God Is In The TV download label a few weeks ago. When I learnt of their release by noisy band Time.Space.Repeat. At the second ever Lost Music gig we put on a 7 band bill at The Windmill in Brixton. Time.Space.Repeat were one of the bands we had on. They had all sorts of sound gremlins and technical glitches with their equipment - but they still did enough to make me want to hear more by the band. Thanks [...]
