Live music picks for MONDAY JULY 23 through SATURDAY JULY 28, 2012. MONDAY JULY 23 / GOMEZ / THE MOD CLUB / 722 COLLEGE / $35.75 / 19+ You really have to respect a band that's been together for over 15 years and, during that time, has kept the original lineup together. It's a rarity, but Gomez , out of England, have not only managed to do it, they've also managed to gain a rabid fanbase and consistent critical acclaim. They released their seventh LP, Whatever's [...]

English indie rockers Bombay Bicycle Club have been putting in some heavy touring hours since releasing their third LP, A Different Kind of Fix , last year. Since the start of oh-twelve, they've hit everywhere from Tokyo to Mexico City, and they're showing no sign of slowing down. A summer tour and mass of fests - from Pinkpop to T in the Park to Lollapalooza to the inaugural Firefly - is already on their docket, and now they've added a fresh leg of North American for this fall. Their [...]
Filed under: News , Video , Exclusive , New Releases Universal Music Anyone who's ever had to endure the graveyard shift knows there's nothing enviable about working into the wee hours. Either you're serving dodgy customers and chugging Red Bulls to keep awake or else stuck solo holding down the eerily silence fort. Yet somehow Montreal's Sam Roberts Band make this grueling shift work almost sound romantic with talk of moonlight kisses and morning [...]

On March 27th, Toronto retro-rock band Zeus will release its sophomore album, Busting Visions , via Arts & Crafts. The follow-up to 20102s Say Us , this latest LP spans 14 tracks and is described by the label as a "sweaty romp of a record, oozing cool, with fuzzed-out riffs, razor-sharp hooks, and harmonies galore." For a sneak peek, the band has unleashed the lead single, "Are You Gonna' Waste My Time?". With a Who-ian intro, the track furthers the band's work of building solid Southern rock grooves, [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Rock It Promo The second night of Toronto International Film Festival 's Festival Music House proved to be a success as Canadian musicians strutted their stuff in front of film industry folks who'd descended upon the Mod Club Sept. 13 to enjoy tunes and take advantage of TIFF festivities (namely free appies and booze). Although headlined by Montreal rockers Sam Roberts Band [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive Frederick M. Brown, Getty Images It was a typical evening at kickoff of the Toronto International Film Festival Wednesday, Sept. 7. In a secluded basement with a capacity of just 100 souls, fashionably dressed locals gathered to catch a glimpse of Hollywood -- and support a good cause. Adrian Grenier , star of the soon-to-wrap ' Entourage ,' was supposedly on hand to host the War Child fundraiser event, which [...]

Music festivals have come and gone in Canada, but one which seems to have taken hold and established an identity is Montreal’s Osheaga Music and Arts Festival . Conveniently scheduled right at the end of July, and picturesquely located on its own island by the Saint Lawrence River, it brought fans from across the country and elsewhere up close and personal with nearly 100 bands and DJs. It’s not quite as big as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, or Coachella yet, but Osheaga is well on its way to becoming a preferred summer destination. I lost track of the number of times artists [...]
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Holy Hell David Bastedo for Sam Roberts Band It looks like a prop from a horror movie, but the photo Sam Roberts Band bassist James Hall posted of his arm on his personal Facebook page is very real. Fascinating to see such open wounds up the entire length of an appendage, repeat visits to the site were a morbid curiosity for many. "That's why I put [...]
In the second installment of our Hidden Track Presents recording session featuring the Sam Roberts Band , Sam Roberts and Dave Nugent treated us to a barebones version of Twist The Knife from their most recent studio effort Collider . Dark and embittered lyrics are set against stirring harmonies in this bluesy folk tune. This is our last song from Sam Roberts, but stay tuned for many more great acts to come. We hope you're enjoying watching our new webseries as much as we are enjoying making it! [...]
We are very proud to present the first episode of a new in-studio performance webseries running exclusively on Hidden Track. The series will focus on intimate performances by talented artists from every genre, all in a live setting. Hidden Track's goal is to bring you stripped-down versions of great songs, with a feeling of closeness not possible at a typical concert. We were lucky enough to get Sam Roberts Band for our first episode and we couldn't be happier with the results. In the vain of a long [...]

Typical. That's the only word that comes to mind as I find words to describe the Sam Roberts Band (official new name by the way) latest effort, Collider. It's not a bad album, in fact, it has a lot of tracks that I'm sure people will highlight as their favourite summer songs. That being said, the album doesn't offer [...]
