In June there were quite a few good nonfiction books published while July brought fiction to the forefront with inward-looking anti-heroes as well as political satire and a fascinating re-imagining of one fabulous woman's life in the gilded age. Millennium People by J.G. Ballard The late literary icon J.G. Ballard's penultimate novel is his first new book to be published in America in nearly a decade. The surrealist master examines the social malaise of the middle classes in this brilliant political satire, in which a [...]

Widespread Panic fans may be worried about the status of the band past 2011 after numerous members of the group mentioned an "indefinite hiatus" following their 25th anniversary celebrations this year. Well, perhaps this announcement will allay fears as the group will head to the Now Sapphire Resort and Spa on Mexico's Mayan Riviera for four shows between January 31 and February 4. This destination event, titled Panic En La Playa , will be produced by Cloud 9 Adventures of Jam Cruise and Mayan Holidaze fame. [...]

The soundtrack to the movie Precious continues to share its message of hope.

Saturdays on EMPT are usually reserved for Kevin Casey's sampled Saturday's but I've been so busy developing the Le DJ branch of the site that Kevin and I haven't even had the chance to speak. However, I was able to find a great remake to honor our beloved sampled saturdays. Who Do You Love is an infectious soul record written in 1964 that reached #25 on Billboard. Last year, Museum of Bella Artes, a Swedish pop band remade it into one the catchiest and chilled out songs I've heard in a while. The production on this record is [...]
Hi everyone, it's been some time... A lot of great new music has come out while I was taking a break from blogging on these pages. But the most exciting news to me was this: p e a c e fire has finally released his Sapphire EP on 12 inch vinyl, limited to 200 copies. Exactly one year and one week after we first wrote about this American based in Kobe, Japan, his musical work is published by Positive and Focused Records. The release features the epic synth fairytale "Sapphire", "Baghdad [...]

Man listen. I'm going to watch this movie. And you know what? You probably should too. Initially, when the girls over at RBN tried to put me on to it, I kinda hit the snooze button and rolled over. My initial thoughts were all negative. Oprah Winfrey and Tyler Perry? Give me a break and a damn Kit-Kat bar. That sounds like the directorial tag team from Hell for cliché black movies. And they got Mariah and Monique in the mix too? Word? This can't be good. [...]
Here's what we already "know" is on the schedule for this year's New Yorker Festival: James Franco Wallace Shawn Rachel Maddow Rufus Wainwright E. Just Asking (Round Three) Which indie-film actor once played a monarch in a movie directed by his cousin? Jason Schwartzman The New York [...]

Kid City's very own Taylor is finally legal... this Thursday. If you live around the area, come out and watch us spin! Should be a fun night. - Michael

Hi, my name's Jan, I'm the latest addition to Trash Menagerie's roster. I'll be contributing now and then to add some love from Europe. Or rather: cheese and chocolate flavored love from tiny Switzerland, to be more precise. Oh, and my pen name is PD Williams. First featured on the big D 's twice - p e a c e FIRE give us the synths we have all been longing for ever since SymbolOne served us Love Juice. Like Lovelock , p e a c e fire seems to be [...]
Wow, I just love this. It has got that pumping deep bass, 80's space synth and the "neon" feel to it.. "neon" feel to it.. Yeah you heard me. The producer p e a c eFIRE is, according to Myspace, from Kobe, Japan. Strange how there seems to be little electro bands coming from Japan, even though [...]
