above : buy , buy , & buy . check it – below are woodstock's favorite tunes of the 2009, which also more-or-less correspond to some of our favorite albums of the year: chiddy bang dropped their absolutely killer electro-hip-hop debut mixtape "the swelly express"; wale & kid cudi , two hipster-hip-hop messiahs dropped their long-awaited and very satisfying debut albums; big boi dropped the super slick shine blockas, even though his album has yet to see the light of day; N.A.S.A. & Major [...]

The Saturday Knights performance at Seattle Center's, Experience Music Project, EMP, left me a bit conflicted. First, my bias is that I am really interested in the prospect of the EMP having more shows. There are at least two great venues in the building, one large stage with a huge video screen back drop and a second venue that has a balcony, great lighting, and pretty decent acoustics. From what the promoters (volunteers?) indicated, they want to have more shows, like they did in the past. And I agree their venue is well suited for some amazing performances. Last [...]

Now that we're half-way through 2009, we thought we'd do a little recap of our favorite tunes from the past six months. We'll post a playlist every day this week; songs are roughly in order of release date. Check out 10 of Woodstock's favorite songs of 09 so far: Theophilus London's killer mixtape, "This Charming Mixtape"; a jam from Wale's "Back to the Feature", a summer banger from the next it-kids Chiddy Bang; a killer Lady Gaga sample from Kid Cudi; Sail On from up-and-coming rapper Young Chris; and more!! Catch 'em below. [...]

I caught the first hip-hop show at the new Crocodile Cafe last weekend, and "new" is certainly the right term. "Remodled" or "revamped" would be an understatement. The occasion was the record release party for Dyme Def's new EP Panic, which has to be a leap along the road towards legitimate national attention for the energetic and talented locals. Despite some light contraversy surrounding the show, the vibe was good all night. The performers and the audience couldn't seem to get enough of each other, and I kept wondering how [...]

The Capitol Hill Block Party announced a partial line up this week that includes Sonic Youth, Past Lives, The Termals, The Gossip, and many more. Even if the line up doesn't look amazing to you, buying tickets now isn't a bad idea. As I recall, The Saturday Knights and Devotchka (?) were both later additions last year, so it can only get better from here. Another reason to buy early is that the price will go up after May 31st according to ticketswest (it's already a tad more than last year). Tickets officially go on sale [...]
Tonight, the Crocodile is hosting their first hip hop show, and it's going to be quite the party. It's the EP release for Dyme Def's newest album, Panic. read more

We're not sure you all understood how amazing this song is when we posted it the other day. The Saturday Knights might be composed of three rather unattractive men (see above), but that has not remotely stopped them from creating one of the most frivolous, bloated, & completely amazing songs we have heard in a long while. Please listen to this very loudly. Thank you. Count It Off- The Saturday Knights
These guys are ridiculous. Seattle hip-hop trio The Saturday Knights aren't you're average MC's; rather, they combine a certain bizarre lyricism (think The Lonely Islands) with some really snazzy music, part-hardrock, part-jazz, part-pretty-slick-rapping. We really can't take them seriously (especially after watching the music video for Count It Off below), but their debut album "Mingel," which dropped at the end of last year is some pretty sweet party music. Check out the fantastic Count It Off below, complete with a chorus of children, "ate out the ugly chicks," and a fantastic rollicking piano and [...]
Revisiting Mingle -last years joyous & witty rap/a bit indie rock album by The Saturday Nights a few weeks ago, I really shoulda checked around more, because back in February they released this excellent feel-goody, Sesame Streety video, that's a real delight to watch. Made me smile, anyway.
The Saturday Knights impressed us with Mingle - their really fun/witty 2008 Summer album . They keep the sillies, on a low-budget Sesame Street, going with their new video for Count It Off . The Saturday Knights premiered a new video to their single "Count it Off" last week at SXSW. read more
"Adapt or die, Sam" says the Devil ( Ray Wise ) at one point during the very funny "Dirty Sexy Mongol" last night, and the same could be said for the Reaper series, as it still struggles to find an audience in it's second season. While the series maintained it's numbers from last week's premiere, it's still The CW's sacrificial lamb left to Idol 's slaughter . 'Adapt' was the theme for the episode, with the escaped demon being the infamous mogul Genghis Kahn , who quickly adapts [...]
As the title rather gives away, I am indeed off to a live performance this evening... and it feels sort of odd that (so far as I know) none of the bands playing has any sort of internetty 'presence' (ugh!), despite them being all webbed-up individually. Refreshing, or an unfortunate throwback? - I dunno, it just feels unusual these days when seemingly every Tom, Dick & Harry has a myspace page with their latest efforts, even before a gig in anger. Actually, I gather there's something on Facebook about tonight's event at the Alma Arms , [...]

Thomas Hunter::: photo by Abbey Tonight we'll be checking out The Wild Orchid Children at a warehouse venue in town. While we are always excited to see Wild Orchid Children, one of our favorite live acts in town, we are both bummed and excited that their expressive, deightful, and ridiculously talented guitarist Thomas may not be there tonight. Turns out that Thomas, who also often plays guitar for Kay Kay and His Weathered Underground and The Saturday Knights, was in Australia this Monday playing with Saves The Day. And here's the YouTube video to prove it: [...]

I've had a track by the Saturday Knights for a while but recently re-discovered them thanks to my iPod being on shuffle. These guys are a lot of fun. Their video they put out last week (?) is absolutely hilarious. It's def an ode to old school sesame street complete with kids and puppets. They get some baller beats and their songs easily transition from straight hip-hop to synthy-pop to a garage rock sound and back again. From their myspace page (and I agree 100%...) "Look, just go bust out the windows and pop the tires on your [...]
Here is the latest and greatest vid 'Count it off' from everybody's favorite weekend warriors, the Saturday Knights. Complete with muppets, vintage animation and public access feel. . I was hipped to this video by The Saturday Knights by a friend of mine who happens to be a friend of the filmmaker, so I checked it out mostly as a favor to her. Turns out it is awesome, and now I can't get the song's hook out of my head. It's a perfect follow up for those who dug Kermit The Frog's appearance in LCD Soundsystem's "New York I Love You" video last year. It's also an official selection at this year's SXSW Film Festival.
