I always think May is the sweetest month. The gardens have come to life, the days are warm and the air smells of flowers and of grass mowed for the first time. I can hear neighbors working outside on their yards. Winter hibernation is finally over. Saturday was the best day, a whole day to be outside, to ride my bike or just walk around town to explore. We'd walk the tracks to the old depot. The depot is red brick, has granite window sills on [...]
Did You Hear? :: How's this for an odd couple? Snoop Lion and Tony Bennett have teamed up (along with numerous other celebrities) to support Voices Against Violence . VAV is a campaign that aims to petition and persuade members of Congress to vote in favor of the gun control measures that have recently been proposed. [ Twitter ] :: Jay-Z has joined the group of developers hoping to renovate the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, NY. Jay's Roc Nation was highly involved in building Brooklyn's Barclay's Center. Coincidentally, the [...]

Saturday, Monday is the work of Swedish producer Ludvig Parment. He and Julia Spada first collaborated on a track titled, " Headshake ", which earn themselves quite a bit of attention. It was only right that the two team up again to create this piece of amazingness called, "The Ocean". Julia Spada's voice is absolute perfection over this intense, minimal-techno instrumental that Saturday, Monday has provided. Thanks to the combination of the haunting vocals and bold production, "The Ocean" a truly powerful song. Watch the equally powerful video above, and if you're a vinyl lover, treat yourself to a limited [...]
As is the case with every festival, the opening spot on a stage is hard for any act and this year Groez goers are pretty spoilt for choice when it comes to the early birds. Getting in the arena early on can prove to be a great idea as yours truly found out after wandering in on, omnipresent punk hero, Mikey Erg's set early on last year. So, without further ado, here's who you should be seeing if you're an early riser at Groezock 2013. [...]
Saturday, Monday is back at it again with this video for his track "The Ocean" featuring the ever-lovely Julia Spada . I really don't know what's going on in most of this video, but once they started dancing on the beach (look at all that fabric!) I was hooked. I've really been enjoying the fruits of this collaboration, and hope it continues into the future.

The recording quality on Dope Body's new 73 EP might not be the best, but more nasty, sludgy psych rock is just what the doctor ordered. WATCH THE REVIEW

Back in 2012 producer Ludvig Parment released a couple of tracks by the names of “The Fall” and “The Slow and Sloppy Journey of the Little Rhino” which ultimately was the start of something beautiful; Saturday, Monday. A producer for Despotz Records turned musician (Ludvig) started a journey that even he knew not the destination. This EP is the start of many new songs by Ludwig that will become a full length album. With the hauntingly alluring vocals of Julia Spada, the post-Dubstep genre creation of Ludvig's “The Ocean” EP is an electronic gem. The EP is very [...]
Baltimore band Dope Body drops a new track and video titled "Leather Head." The track comes from the band's new 73 EP on Drag City. The title: Saturday . The track brings the band's usual combo of psych rock, punk, and sludge; however, the party attitude that I enjoyed so much on their last full-length seems to be swapped out for something a little darker. Check a review of the band's last full-length right here:

The SATURDAYS cover this week's Boyz magazine, minus Rochelle's prez tummy, and I may just head down to their show this Sat night post the DAVID BOWIE V&A Show.
Bruno Mars - When I Was Your Man I've tried to get into the Bruno Mars thing, but honestly, I just find him to be a second rate Prince/Michael Jackson clone. The enormous success of this track baffles me. He's got absolutely no edge. C The Saturdays - What About Us This is another pop group I've tried to love without much success. That said, this is one of their best singles. It's hooky throughout and the melody doesn't get lost in the production (which [...]
Have you been chasing The Saturdays on their E! reality show Chasing The Saturdays ? Cool! So have Justin Bieber 's manager Scooter Braun and pop superproducer Dallas Austin , according to an entirely dubious-sounding report from The Daily Star that's exactly the sort of thing we'd want to have in the press if we were managing an international girl group struggling to break ground in the United States (not that there's anything remotely suspicious about the story, or the English tabloid machine in general). [...]

Napalm Death are the dependable grandfathers of grind. Not sure they'd be happy with that description but hey, we just said it anyway. They were bloody noisy at Hammerfest 2013, regardless. -- napalm-death0060hammerfestv_je nnymccambridge Back Next Picture 1 [...]

The entire concept of a Dutch folk/viking metal band kind of baffles us. Luckily Heidevolk have a frontman like Joris Boghtdrincker - a man with a name that sounds like the Dutch translation of Clarence Boddicker - pulling poses like you would not believe. Unless you look at our photo gallery, that is. Then you'll have seen them and believing it won't be an issue. Durrr. -- heidevolk-25hammerfestv_jennym ccambridge [...]

Saint Vitus are one of the grand old bands of US doom, but their long age has done little to dent their purpose - if anything, Saint Vitus have got heavier with age. Kind of like a fine wine, if the wine was made out of riffs. -- st-vitus20754hammerfestv_garyw olstenholme_ Back [...]

Now that Carcass are officially back to being A Thing with A New Album on the go, we're not sure how long Bill Steer is going to stay in Angel Witch . He looks like he had a grand old time at Hammerfest 2013 though, going by our photos. -- angel-witch19747hammerfestv_ga rywolstenholme_ Back [...]

While Savage Messiah covered the Brit-Thrash angle, you can't really have a European metal festival without a bit of German thrash, can you? That's a rhetorical question, by the way, so you really shouldn't spend too much time thinking about it. Just go look at Gary Wolstenholme's pictures of Sodom , okay? -- sodom19417hammerfestv_garywols tenholme_ Back [...]

Monument are not the same band as Monuments . That could get confusing. The lot that were at Hammerfest 2013 are the former - the old school trad-metal band - not the fresh young Djent bucks of the latter. Phew. -- monument-13hammerfestv_jennymc cambridge Back Next [...]
