System of a Down picked up the title of America's most socially conscience band from Rage Against the Machine a long time ago. Recently, the band was featured in the movie Screamers , a documentary about the history of genocide. The film screens at Youtube for free over the next week. It's embedded below.
MySpace Page Portland, Oregon based PLP is a self-described "synth drums/duo" (which eventually turned into a trio) responsible for "creating noise music with pop hooks and touring the US relentlessly" (according to Skin Graft bio). They played more than hundred shows in in two years and their [...]
From October 24th's Wall Street Journal, a pretty interesting and weird article involving K.K. Barret from the legendary synth punk band The Screamers and pavement cut so it plays music when you drive over it: A California Road That Plays 'Rossini' Drivers Heard the Music and Approved; Neighbors Grumbled About the Rumble LANCASTER, Calif. -- In early August, this quiet desert community got an odd request from Honda Motor Co. The car maker wanted to cut a pattern of grooves into a stretch of road so people in passing cars [...]

Not intended to feature the latest music out there, my 'Pick of the Week' is to simply share & highlight music I personally enjoy regardless of timeframe. This weeks pick is pioneering L.A. punk band The Screamers . Having influenced bands like Devo , Adult. , and The Dead Kennedys , The Screamers we're one of the earliest-known purveyors of 'synthpunk'. Replacing guitars with synths and electric piano while maintaining the abrasive L.A. punk sound at the time is what made The Screamers stand out amongst their guitar-strumming counterparts like The [...]

(photos from Los Angeles, including the Choppercabras Spring Thing, a larger gallery from the event here ) My trip to LA was pretty interesting. I liked it way more than I expected to, and found various groups of amazing kids out there who made my trip way more fun and social than I had anticipated. There was also a fair bit of Brooklyn crossover, with both the Vivian Girls and Japanther playing at The Smell (on different nights) while I was there. DJ Dirtyfingers also made an [...]
I love evil music and synth-punk typically delivers just that. Over the past year or two, I have been digging deeper into its roots and discovering some really great early sounds from such influential bands as The Screamers and The Units . This post has: 3 Images 4 MP3's

Last month I posted some 45s from Scratch Bongowax & after I did, I looked through some old issues of EAT POOP! 'zine (a punk 'zine I put out in the late 80s & early 90s in inSane Jose with a lotta help from my friends). We did shows & revu'd musick so I rely on the printed gospel to bridge the gaps in my brain-cell deficient, well, ...brain. I found one from late '89, EP! ish. #11 that had relevance, then I found the following article, which [...]

Maintaining Armagideon Time has been an extended spin on the Wheel of Dread and Pleasure for me. (That's another Warhammer reference, for those of you keeping score.) There are times when I'm able to put together a week's worth of posts in a single afternoon, and feel confident in whatever it is I'm doing here. At other times, I feel a crippling sense of insecurity about my writing, the quality of the material, and the validity of the entire project. The past couple of weeks have been more of the latter for me, for whatever reason -- fatigue, perhaps – [...]
