Men stormen kom aldrig. Skivan passerade tämligen obemärkt, både i gammelmedia och på bloggar. Om det handlar bandets senaste låt, No Song . Om att definiera sig själv utifrån sitt band, som det [...]

In what could possibly be a first on the internet I'm going to do a live blog video review of this brand new song by Sweden's The Second Band . I just got this not 5 minutes ago in my in box so I haven't heard it or prepared any comments on it. But I've loved just about everything the band has done and every direction they've taken their music; so let's hope for the best. Go to the comments section to see my video live blog and feel free to add your own. [...]
Second Band member Fabian Lundmark has directed the first ever video for the group. It's for the song "The Flood" from the new record Definite Form . You can listen to two new songs from the band below. "The Killer Comeback Line" is soaring melodramatic pop that is a bit morose. While "The Future" is straightforward indie pop with hand claps, trumpets and a sing along chorus. Buy the new record here through Orange Grammofon. The Killer Comeback Line The [...]
The Second Band of 2008 is a bit different than the one you might remember from 2006's "Your dark side is on the phone" . Less members, a bit rougher around the edges. Less straight-up pop, less optimistic, more yearning, more weary. Seems appropriate to me as the world is not as nice a place as it was two years ago. On the other hand, this also means they're sounding less unique. Do we need another Arcade Fire or Shout Out Louds ? When they sound more like the former as on today's mp3 pick, [...]

There are so many records out right now that I'm dying to buy, only I can't afford to! I need a serious influx of cash to support my habit, you know what I'm saying? Here's a selection of things that if the record fairy were to deliver as gifts, I would be more than grateful for. Goldfrapp -- "A&E" mp3 off Seventh Tree ( buy ) This is an incredibly beautiful song. Some [...]
The Second Band The Second band - Wild is the wind (video sample) (this is not a new song, this is an old one) Références musicales : The Beatles, Hefner, Weezer The Second band - The urgency of now (mp3) The Second band - The funeral at sea (mp3) At first sight, the Second Band is just another project for [...]

The trouble with describing music is that you have compare new stuff with all the songs that have you have heard before. So when listening to The Definite Form , the new album by Swedish group The Second Band , you find yourself scribbling down names of bands like The Cure (but note that the singer can actually pronounce the "r"), The Beautiful South (arrangements), Simply Red (well, not really after listening more closely, phew!), The Style Council, The View and about half a dozen others. Conclusion: there is something really English about them. [...]

Something happened to The Second Band . They admit as much when they say on their homepage that "There has been some major changes in the band. Some has left and one is all new. We're currently not sure exactly how many persons this band exists...". Prior to this new record the band received some amount of good press, near fame with a song placement on Grey's Anatomy and significant blog buzz. I think all of that may have pushed the band in a slightly new direction. The songs I've heard (below) are more challenging, less likable [...]

Swedes Please is quickly becoming one of my favorite blogs. I had no idea of their existance until my post on Detektivbyran was linked by them. I went there thinking, well if they like Detektivbyran as much as I do, then they're friends of mine. Little did I know I'd like all those Swedes' music so much. And, being out of ideas and all today, I figured I'd highlight some of my favorite Swedish bands from that blog as of late. It's a win-win situation really. You now know of a new, and great blog to read for the future, and you get to [...]
Two copies of The Second Band's album Your Dark Side Is On The Phone arrived the other day from their US Distributor Parasol Records. The record's been around for awhile in both Sweden and the States. The song "Wild Is The Wind" even went on to be prominently featured in Gray's Anatomy. I've written about the band a ton, even going as far to call them the best band in Sweden. Anyway if you're in the US you really ought to buy this now directly through Parasol here . [...]

I'm really liking the new Blonde Redhead album "23" which has a great consistent sound with their other stuff. They are actually playing tomorrow at the Glass House and I am guessing the tickets are long gone. They will also be performing at Coachella with a gazillion awesome bands! I will do a short Coachella entry next week for some of my favorite bands playing. Something totally strange: The hits on my site go up around 75-120 hits on average a day. Who the crap is looking [...]

Busy Busy Busy, did I tell you that I was going to Sweden this Thursday ? Yes, it's true. At the bottom of this post, I am going to post 5 Swedish Bands I love... PS thanks to BWE , PHW and GT for the best day of my favorite blogs linking me ! Check them all out. A. Brooklynvegan has some hard to digest Locust information and song HERE . I saw them at YWCA in Berkeley in like '94. I am still scarred [...]
One more reason I love Sweden. Check out the Second Band from Stockholm. Think Decemberists meet Bright Eyes without all the wine and 5 dollar vocabulary words. TRUST ME, Very recommended! The Second Band - A Song I Can't Recall The Second Band - Bellystings and Sunshowers . THEIR SITE'S HERE . It's in Swedish but click on th"Lyssna" link to download a few more songs from them.

(Editor's note and update: Since I wrote glowingly about this band and in particular this song, it has been featured on Grey's Anatomy. Strange for an unknown Swedish band on a small independent label to be chosen. I may not deserve any credit (although I swear Alexandra Patsavas is reading Swedesplease and Songs:Illinois ) but I do think mp3 blogs are responsible for at least half the songs appearing in tv shows and advertisements today. I've written about The Second Band [...]

It's been hot here. Ridiculously hot. We're talking five straight days with peaks at 104°F/40°C. It's enough to make me wish that I still worked in an office so I could indulge in some air conditioning. Shit ain't right, lemme tell ya. I tried listening to frigid black-metal to make me feel cooler, but to be honest, the only thing that made me feel better was summery pop. Angry, grim music simply exasperated by misery and happy music did the exact opposite. One act that's greatly contributed to my improved positive attitude is The Second Band. Their latest EP "Your [...]
