BBC: "It's a phenomenon which seems to have come from nowhere, but in fact computer-based social networks have been around for decades. In this three-part series the BBC's technology correspondent Rory Cellan Jones traces the hidden story of social networking, from the early days of computing and the 60s counterculture through to the businesses worth billions today." MAD magazine has been called revolutionary, subversive, surreal, hilarious, and a total waste of time. (The latter by its own editors). That a single publication could fill all of those roles for millions of readers, and thrive, across six decades says a lot about the human appetite for satire. LIFE Magazine provides us with a behind the scenes look at the world of MAD Magazine .
Anyone who's ever been to a really great rock and roll concert can probably tell you... it's more than "just a concert". No. the good ones can border on a sort of mystical experience where magical things happen and time seems to stand still, albeit just for a moment... even if it's a sober moment. <!-- --> read more

The current season of Dr. Who has finished on BBC America. And not to say bad about David Tennant's run, but this season was much better written and acted by all involved. And the ending? Well, maybe it was the beginning... The Secret History - Love Theme (from The World That Never Was)

Pop music formed by '60s girl groups are often subjected to ancient stereotypes. Joyous harmonies, lyrics consisting of nothing more than multiply layered "doo-wop-da-doo-wop"s, and a subtle sway of the hips for sex appeal (or the most of what was allowed of it on TV at the time). While much of what was considered [...]
Monday: Mumford & Sons + The Middle East @ Music Hall of Williamsburg 8pm $20 [ tix ] Looking over the show listings for this week it seems like this may just be the calm before the storm. We are a week away from the unofficial start to summer and the swarm of free, exciting shows it brings to New York, and all this week seems to suffer for it with a lighter array of bands than normal. Tonight we have two bands I have yet to take any [...]

The World That Never Was is the forthcoming debut album from New York indie pop group The Secret History. The band is build around Michael Grace, Jr from the band My Favorite, and a pair of singers, Erin Dermody and Lisa Ronson (the latter the daughter of long-time Bowie guitarist Mick Ronson). The album hits stores on March 22nd. It would be easy to talk about the keyboards and the occasional
Impeccable post-pop with a sophisticated smidge of glam, the Secret History serves up melodrama for the young at heart. "Johnny Anorak," from The World That Never Was (Le Grand Magistery; out March 22), is seeped in the frustrations of a retro adolescence. Reviving the vocal glory of '60s girl groups, "Johnny Anorak" kick-starts with rousing cheers, claps [...]

It's true, Dearest Friends, the good ship SS FiL has embarked on a brand new journey, leaving behind my musical doldrums of 2009 and sailing into a shining new sea of tuneful goodness. And speaking of goodness, well... GOODNESS! If you're still sticking around after that forced metaphor, then you deserve a reward. So far the start of the year seems to be shaping up all fine and poppy. After the idylls of The Idyllists last week, I've got three bouncy bits for you. First up are The Sleepless Nights , four [...]
Die erste Kostprobe des demnächst erscheinenden Debütalbums «The World That Never Was» (nachdem 2008 bereits eine EP herauskam) klingt jedenfalls schon mal sehr vielversprechend. Mal schauen, wie dann die komplette CD so wird, vielleicht finden sich [...]

Biography:The Secret History is an NYC-based band featuring cult songwriter Michael Grace, Jr. and his decade-long co-conspirators from the adored (but obscured) indiepop group My Favorite. The band also features the debut of vocalists Lisa Ronson (daughter of glam rock legend Mick Ronson) and Erin Dermody. Grace's lyrics turn bare bedsit walls into drive-in theatres, while Ronson's singing
The Secret History is the new project from My Favorite's Michael Grace Jr. The band is preparing to release their debut full length, The World That Never Was, on March 22. Listen closely to the track "Johnny Anorak". That's Lisa Ronson, daughter of long-time Bowie guitarist and all-around glam icon Mick Ronson, on vocals. Beyond that it's also an indie pop gem.
